Congratulations Patrick and Stuart🎉❤⭐️⭐️ My heavens you were led to your perfect spot. I only started watching your channel a few days ago. I decided I needed to see the tours of the possibilities in choosing your new little piece of heaven! As we toured your final choice. I so wanted to get close-ups of the details from the different rooms. The color combinations of fabrics and walls.. the lighting…the furniture and furnishings….stunning truly! How I wish I could visit but it is not to be! Both of you are so capable. I love seeing how kind and considerate and grateful you both are to each other and to all whom you are in contact with. Your neighbours rallying to assist after the storm… it gives me hope that there are genuine, principled, honest, kind people still around us… angels really. I’m unsure of how many dogs are a part of your family?!. They obviously adore you both, as they follow your every move …if allowed. What are their names, please? Having your four legged angels with you must be very reassuring when one of you is away. Also you are so wise to have had a list of pros and cons. To have small shops nearby is imperative. To have veterinary hospital as well as “human “ hospitals is very important. As we mature in years sometime we forget our needs might change. I pray not for you and your dear family…if necessary it’s available.🌟 Blessings and love! Anita

Hi Anita. I think you are right. We were led. And the chateau had other interested parties and the family chose us. 😊I’m so glad to see your comment and thoughts. And we have found wonderful people here. We have 7 dogs and 2 visitors. They are my parents but after my dads heart attack, they are with us. We adore them. And they are a great security feature. 😂. Much love to you from Colombe. ❤

But I'm sure there are many ofter projects that will need your attention first. Looking forward to seeing the treasures and skeletons in the attic! Kisses to you both.

Hey there Maria. Yea it was a nail biter for us and we are so happy. We got the news the day we filmed. The signing was by power of attorney. And they had the documents so we were still quite in shock when we filmed. So happy now. Right you are. The veggie garden will get a fence until we are ready to build a wall! There are many doors we haven’t opened. Attics to explore. And then there are the many chests and trunks and whatever there is in the outbuildings. Skeletons or some old linens or outfits! Exciting. Next week Stuart will do a vlog looking at the farm house and other areas I think. And we will work full speed to have the realtor here next week to have a chat and list ASAP. 😳🤪😳. Huge hugs. 💕⚜️💕

Hello Fiona. It was our favorite chateau too. Owned by the same family for over 150 years. Just lovely people! Those floors and the staircases..... Yummy! Yes to the kitchen. We are thinking to exchange the back window with French doors for easy back garden access. Or park, as we were told we should call almost 8 acres. The wonderful thing is, that we can move in without anything needed to be done. bathrooms, kitchen and heat all work. Now, we are looking forward to polish this lady up and make her sparkle. And we will have 2 B&B rooms in the chateau (the two on the left upper floor) and have a few gîtes. Now, on to that wine! Love the way you think! 🥰🥰🥰 Be safe

@@patrickjourneytothechateau8243 Thank you for replying. Good luck in selling your present home. I retired as a real estate appraiser two years ago, due to health reasons. If I can be of any help with any suggestions, would be glad to do so. the typical buyer knows when they walk in the door if they want the home or not, so first impressions are everything. The interest rates are slowly creeping up, ao the sooner you can get it on the market, the better.

What I am interested in is that there are no photos yet online and this house is not cheap and there is a lot of interest and scheduled viewings. Is that a good sign? @@patrickjourneytothechateau8243 A lot of scheduled viewings is a very good sign. Realtors do not waste their time with people who cannot afford, or, are not serious buyers. Good Luck! I am doing well, and am so enjoying watching the two of you. You are right about that dining room cupboard, definitely meant to be in a kitchen. I love the furniture you purchased One thing I have noticed about European homes, is they are not so matchy, matchy and worn out fabric just adds to the character of an antique.
@gnarbeljo89802 жыл бұрын
Congratulations! What a lovely Chateau! I hope you keep as much as possible of all the beautiful wallpapered rooms, even the tiny bedroom you showed last was beautiful! Besides the roof being an obvious and costly project, you don't have to spend alot on the main corps de logi to have a perfectly lovely, livable house! I'd probably carefully plan improvements on the kitchen first, and look at the bathrooms next. But what's important is you can actually move in and live there for a while before making big decisions which is marvelous and the best thing to do before spending. Only living there will you be able to prioritize properly and sadly many such properties aren't in shape to actually do that. The interiors are just so charming. The exteriors walls and windows looked great from what I could see, so having the roof inspected and fixed untill re-laid is most important. That cottage is a huge asset as well! So you have a secind kitchen when renovating one, bathroom as well, and it could be used for immediate income too! The outbuildings would worry me in terms of upkeep as they are many and huge, so it's very brave of you, but indeed there's tremedous potential for many different uses and business potential if you can invest in them. There's enough space to create a huge space sufficient for balls, events, concerts etc and still have room for lots of other uses. I'm an animal lover so I'd be so pleased to have easy access to barns and vets, and only 8 min to the bigger town is very close indeed! Bravo and congratulations to you, I hope you'll be very happy in your new home and lifestyle! Welcome to Europe boys! ❤️❤️🎊

Thank you. We are really happy. The wallpaper in the library is late 1800s some of it is damaged due to old leaks. The dining room was redone in the 1950s. That will have to go. Now that charming small bedroom, we absolutely want to keep it. We are lucky that the roof on the main chateau is in good shape. It’s the front wings and the farm buildings that need to have the roofs replaced. Luckily we can do them over a few years. 🥂🍾🥂

It was one huge bonus that the chateau is completely livable. We have bathrooms, two kitchens, and plenty of space for our dogs. We said from the start that we will live there and do careful renovations but do more rehab work in the outbuildings. That will give us our income potential with three holiday rentals.

Congrats on finding your chateau. As you speak about plans for May, I gather you've fully completed the purchase process. I know there's often a period of 2 to 4 months for checking registers and finalizing the contract. Will be so interesting to see how you will work on the layout of the chateau. Think the size of the chateau is not so big that it's uncomfortable to use (and maintain) for your private living quarters, while at the same time there's plenty potential for business with the outbuildings. That was over 4 months…… We have some ideas about our private and B&B wings. Left wing two luxurious suites. One with its own staircase the other accessible through the grand staircase. On the right side 3 smaller bedrooms each with an en site as well. Plus we want to connect the chateau’ s right side with the large building on the right of the courtyard. Utilize that space for living quarters for people who want to work at the chateau and the dogs, storage etc. Maybe a catering kitchen. Good lord……. So many amazing possibilities. We enjoyed the feeling that this chateau gave us. Almost like a friendly embrace. Not monumental but still grand and elegant. Good point with business opportunities with the outbuildings. Love your comment. Thank you so much. 💕👍🏻💕

Thank you. We love Bourges and the wild Loire river region. There are quite a few wineries within 20 minutes distance from us as well (AOC Reuilly). I'll have to give it a try! But of course, Sancerre and Pouilly are wonderful wines. There is a fantastic cheese maker 7 minutes driving distance as well. We are thrilled and we can't thank you enough for your great comment. Please, if you have any other tops or recommendations, we'd love to hear them! 😊

Even tho ive seen the Chateau heaps of times , the floors and Staircase is just so Charming , the floors are gorgeous it would cost thousands to put in those Stones now , they are full of Character . And the Staircase is Beautiful its just how a French Staircase should look , lots of detail the work to make such a Wrought iron staircase would of take a while . Its always good to look back at how it was . I think the Fountain just makes it even more Beautiful .

There is even a specific donkey breed that almost went extinct, the tall dark de Berry. How amazing. And black chicken from this area. We are thrilled and excited and sometimes a bit scared of course. We are truly blessed to have wonderful people like you on this journey with us. 🥂🍾🥂

Late to the party I'm afraid but am so excited and thrilled that you two have found your new home. And it is a home; not some over built, fort on steroids. This chateau near Bourges has a wonderful human scale to it: grand yet comfortable. Spacious, large rooms that are not cavernous but are welcoming, cozy maybe, certainly charming. The chateau has a feminine, almost light facade. Not at all heavy, dour and foreboding. And the symmetry of the front is magical. I can imagine some wonderful potted plants to compliment the front entrance against the gravel. And always, always over-sized pots. Great decision

Hello there Ralph. Thank you so much for an amazing comment. The chateau feels like you have described it. It does have an almost feminine appearance in its simplicity. I have to tell you, when we went there for the viewing, we stood a few feet in front of the facade, looking up and Stuart said: this is much taller than it seems in the photos. 😂. It’s true. This is a home, manageable. We didn’t want a chateau that is fake or neo anything. Fort on steroids made me laugh out loud! 😍. We did want symmetry and we got it. And of course, you are spot on with the planters. Oversized. Either the Versailles planters or lovely Italian Impruneta terra cotta ones. Good grief I am so ready to get over there. Thank you again. Amazing comment. 😘⚜️😘

Hello Stuart and Patrick, I have so much to comment, firstly I did not know you have no chateau, you are going to buy, I thought they are crazy, no wonder Patrick was so stressed. Now, I think it would be in order to say "congratulations" the more I saw the more I saw you inside this place. It is going to be wonderful. At least it is liveable inside, and that is most important, even if there were just a bathroom and 2 bedrooms with a kitchen, now you have it all. This is going to be another wonderful journey and I truly wish you all the very very best. You are going to make that a splendid place to live in and work from. The dogs are going to have great grounds to explore, can you imagine when they get there, they will be into every nook and granny. It is very exciting. I think you got what you wanted, and the price must be right, you did not mention it, and quite right it is none of our business. Later on you could rent out some of the buildings to local French people, housing is always in demand, but you can cover that area when you get to it. Well done, I will share with my husband and son and I would like to toast to your achievement. You can always build a potager!! The more people offer assistance, the better for you. Kind regards and many blessings.
@patrickjourneytothechateau82432 жыл бұрын
I have to confess, you got me spot on! I was stressed and cannot tell you how relieved we both are. Thank you so very much for your kind comment! The chateau has always been lived in by a family that took care of this old lady. We will restore it in our taste (historically accurate, besides the bathrooms….. those we like up to date). Once we have the dogs healthy at the chateau, I will let go of my anxiety. We love them and they are dependent on us, so we have to make sure they are safe. Our breed comes form Irish farms to hunt vermin. How perfect is this for them. Full time jobs for them! 😍. The price is good for us. We can afford it and have some money for renovations. With a moderate income from B&B and the vacation homes, we will be all good. Or renting to locals, also a great thought. Thank you. Thank you for your kindness and your wonderful comment. Hugs from us and all the nest to your family 🥰😘🥰

When there are smaller rooms which are accessed through a bedroom, they are ideal to create a bathroom (if plumbing pipes can be connected to other existing pipes). A smaller room can become a study or a location for antique wardrobes or custom made shelving and cupboards. A small library or lounge attached to a bedroom too. Guests may also need a private lounge area or an extra bedroom. It is always good to have options with rooms when there are enough bedrooms to cover an owner's needs for private/family member spaces. Extra rooms could earn income while renovations have been completed in the outbuildings. Work is delayed in restoration by capital reduction due to unforeseen costs but when extra rooms earn income or an owner has another income from their skills and knowledge work can continue at a consistent pace. Work and progress in restoration, skills and knowledge sharing, filming events, travels and visits to friends and families are great content for vlogs. I am binge-watching the vlogs since your visit to LaLande, so my comments will probably be out of date or unseen.

Ahhhhhhhhh, so happy for you! Congratulations! 🍾🍷🍸🍹🥃💃🕺👯♂️🏇🐾🐕🐩🐎🐏🐑🐔🐓🦆🦢🦉🦚 Towards the end of your video when you were analized / discusssed the pros and cons, especially when you came to the part of the roofs that needs replacing, I thought, oh no, they are not going to take it, but it is so perfect for them!!!!! I am absolutely thrilled and excited for you. You are going to stay in such an old historical home and will create many more new history of your own, it is like having and enjoying and protecting the landmark of your lives!! Great to a new vegetable garden, near to medical facilities for your children and yourselves and the "bakkery" (can't spell the correct French term) and yes, imagine what treasure you just might find when clearing and organising!!!!! Can't wait for your videos of your new home. What I am also so thrilled about is that you mentioned in one of your last videos that you need to generate some income from the place, but you wish to make the chateau you home and the outbuildings to be rented out (sorry, again, can't spell the correct term!). May you be blessed by your new historical home!!! And if you one day are able to get information about your chateau you must please share it with us! (That is how I was able to find the house my French ancester build in +/- 1720 on his vineyard in the Paarl area, still standing and part of a much bigger home that was built by other families after they packed their wagons and moved toward the North of South Africa as we know it today). He and his descendants produced wine (which make a lot of sense 14 generations later...). Lots of well wishes, from Pretoria, South Africa.

Good morning Helana. What a wonderful and heartfelt comment. I have a soft spot for ZA. My one year in Cape Town was almost magical and changed my life for the better. Now, thank you so much. We are excited and a. It spooked. 😂. Analyzing the chateau, the roofs were a big subject for discussions. We’ll get it done, one roof at a time. We wanted to be as honest as we could have, compared with the other chateaux we reviewed. This one really feels perfect for us and our plans. I love the way you see us creating new history for the chateau. A continuation. We are the caretakers for many years, so it has a healthy foundation for another 300 years we hope. The search for hospitals (2 and 4 legged customers) and other needed or wanted amenities was a lot of fun. A cheese maker 8 minutes driving distance is great. Closest winery 20 min. Oh yes, the bakeries are so important! What a fantastic history you have with your family! Amazing. South African wine is delicious. Thank you again for your great comment and your moral support. Very much appreciated. Be safe and bless your your kindness. 🍾🥂🍾🌹💕💖🥳🍾

I forgot. In the China room/linen room there are two shelves in a cabinet with hundreds of pages of papers. The history of the chateau. 🥳🤩🥳. Much is in old French and needs someone who is trained in ready it. But how amazing. We figured out some parts of the history and we are so happy with that. Can only get better. We absolutely will share that with you! 🥰😍🥰
@helanalurie99622 жыл бұрын
It is so generous and thoughtful of the previous owners to leave the historical papers for you! Wow, in Old French as well... You will definitely be part of the Chateau's history. It will not be your home only, you will be part of it! So glad you enjoyed your stay In ZA. Thanks to our French and other influences we produce very good wine that we are proud of, thank you. We love interacting with Europeans and those of us that know our history also know we have a lot of history with the German people. There are many Germans staying here. One last thought: you are very furtunate to have a cheese make nearby. It is so lovely that you will be staying on a piece of land where you don't have a lot of people or traffic on your door step. I think it is one of the most wonderful things in life to be able to live in peace and harmony with nature and to keep the world a bit outside: Sometimes one wants to interact with people and sometimes one really need the peace and quiet away from others. You get more done, you are more creative and your mind is more clear and your thoughts more focused! Auf wiedersehen till the next video! 🎶🍷🐩🥖🥐🧀🍇
@patrickjourneytothechateau82432 жыл бұрын
@@helanalurie9962 we are very fortunate to get the historical documents. Hopefully there will be some old drawings somewhere to recreate the original windows and front gates. The wines in ZA are amazing. We went to the wine country north of Table Mountain a few times and I was blown away. Interacting with people of different nationalities and ethnicity was something my parents installed in me. I stayed with a German owned guest house in Cape Town for two week. What a fantastic lady. @@JourneytotheChateau So excited for you two ! You could’ve knocked me over with a feather - swear !!!! I did NOT see that coming!!!! Such a fun video ! First time I was watching on my phone. 2nd time - watched on a 50” screen. That kitchen is my dream with the staircase & ceiling & size & fireplace!!!! When you get the potager going- you’ll be creating all sorts of wonderful seasonal dishes !!! So excited for you both. Honestly! Enjoy in good health !

@@JourneytotheChateau When y’all get out in the French country- keep that yummy antiquity & freshen it up ! You two are used to rebuilding ruins… this time - be selective about the ruin fixing ! Those staircases - ALL OF THEM - are STUNNINGLY fabulous!!!! I can’t wait to see “ the cave” for your wine collection. Amazing outbuildings. It comes with a caretakers house ! Crazy!!!! I am in LOVE with the Château.

Those outbuildings are amazing. Lots of work to get them done for animals or people but hey, that's what the journey is all about! And we do love the challenge! Not sure how I sound with sore muscles..... 🤣 We are really happy. Thank you so much!

I'm so very happy for you, Patrick and Stuart. What an adventure and what a beautiful home you have now in France. My sister and brother-in-law have lived in the very rural area of Thouarsais in Pays De La Loire for many years and absolutely love it. They started out renovating a barn into a beautiful home, went on from there to a most gorgeous farmhouse which needed renovation in which they live and they now have another property which they renovated and now rent out. You are going to have such a wonderful time.

Thank you so much Felicity. We are glad you like the new home. The location in a very small community with only 256 people but only 25 min drive from Bourges seemed just perfect. What your sister and brother-in-law did sounds great. Love it. Now the pressure is on. Getting this house ready, packing, finding a safe way to get our dogs over and then the real fun begins. We’ll do some community surveys I’m sure to get input. Your comment is so very much appreciated. Hugs 🥰⚜️🥰

oh my gosh..I love this chateau except for the pig head in the entrance! The floors are stunning and the staircase is beautiful! I would be happy that they are not clearing out the attics! All sorts of goodies that belong to the chateau's history could be there! I am so excited to see your journey and the trunks! I would get some seeds ready for your cousin to plant!

Thanks so much! 😊 I agree, Pam. I am not a fan of taxidermy.

@@JourneytotheChateau The taxidermy could go into one of those spare trunks for future owners to find! you could have your own "narnia" of trunks in the attic like Stephanie and all of her cabinets !
