My husband has scars on his "little bald head"too. One scraping on a metal box in the cellar ceiling sent him to the Emergency Room in an ambulance one night for 30 stitches. I told him he needs one of those Headbanger Helmets. 🤕❤BE CAREFUL! 😘😘Love from still snowy Vermont USA.❤

Hi guys, I’m so pleased you’ve made the door higher, people who lived years ago were much smaller, you Patrick are of Viking decent, tall and beautiful and need a higher door, it’s bad enough that you hurt yourself but your poor dad! Ouch! Renovating any room is a pain in the you know where, but the finished result is always worth it, your kitchen is going to look lovely, so love my Stuart and Patrick xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx😘❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Good morning Patrick & Stuart, changing the height of the doorway was essential! You cannot walk freely and it is just not acceptable, so, good job. The preparation work is so vital. I know it is a lot of work, back breaking to say the least, but the paint will last so much longer and give a much better finish. Textured walls are not really a good thing inside, even in bedrooms the dust settles onto the patterns and it makes cleaning very difficult. Using a good quality paint, it could last for at least 10 years working to the instructions of the manufacturer. Our paints on the inside walls are doing exactly that, just the doors and cupboard doors I would like to freshen up. It is a very challenging project to update the kitchen or bathrooms, just stay calm, plan it all, it makes the job more achievable. Just be patient and persevere, you will be so happy when the work is completed. In fact, you might surprise yourself thinking, did we really do that? Think of the money you are saving, plus you know it is all done perfectly and to your "standards", which is most important. Keep warm, take care, enjoy and be happy. Many blessings, Elize - did not see the Supervisors today, maybe they are on tea break :)
@patrickjourneytothechateau9452
@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 Жыл бұрын
Hello dear Elize. We had to increase the height of the doors for sure. It feels great! You are so right about textured walls. Terrible idea. 😮😂. We are using the English Little Green Company paints. They are fantastic. We are currently planning our first bathroom as well. We hope to get two of them done before May. 😮😮😮 You are right. We save a lot of money and get things done the way we want them done. The supervisors were in the linen room with Stuart so they’d be protected from the dust. We cleaned every afternoon, so there was only a minimum of dust. Huge hugs from Colombe. ❤😊❤

The walls look like the French "crepi", which is a mix of paint, sand and plaster, very popular in the 60's & 70's for hiding cracks, irregular walls and grease stains or mold....it slides off with a heat gun and plaster spatula.... Thanks for the Go-Go dance on the scaffolding, that dangerous move clears you of the crime of not dancing a Can-Can or Valse Musette!!!!!

Yay! You guys are really moving forward. Raising the hight on the doors was the correct way to go, you want to enjoy your chateau for many years to come. Killing yourself (or anyone else) to get from one area to the next would not allow you to do that. Patrick being that this is your SEVENTH kitchen renovation (maybe you have banged your head way more than twice?) I see all the supervisors trusted you could do the work in their absence. I feel your pain about the head hitting. That door had to be raised! But how on earth did I miss this video?! On the plus side, however, it has been a gala way to end the week on Friday afternoon! I feel for your Father. I hope he has now fully recovered. Whatever the disadvantages of following chateau channels may be (I cannot think of any disadvantages, but I suppose there may be some!) the advantage is that you constantly remind me to be grateful that I have zero DIY skills. Hi there. Indeed it is a bit daunting to redo a kitchen all by ourselves (with John doing the electrical work of course) and Tony lending a hand. But doing everting else ourselves is sometimes exhausting. 😅. And we do stay within our budget. For our last kitchen we had a designer give us a plan. We laughed at it. Completely not practical. 😂😂. SO MUCH SANDING! The walls look amazing! Brilliant idea to mop the walls with a degreaser!!! Excellent decision to heighten the door opening as it would be so sad to be killed by a low lintel! One more crack in the forehead could have been your last! The pantry will be so much more functional because of the alterations! Since the dogs love it so much, maybe you could use the flooring area for their feeding bowls and water. I also watched the video of Jane's that showed you and Tony fitting the new aluminum framed wall with wallboard. What a HUGE difference that one wall makes! I can just see it being filled with wonderful and useful cabinetry! This kitchen is going to be stunning! Cheers!

Yes, the Chateau like all the others across France would have been continually evolving and updated throughout the years, Although often not sympathetically. Now thank heavens new Chateau owners are more of the mind that they are in fact custodians and carry a big responsibility to preserve and care for these stunning neglected castles. And yes they have to be bought u to date under the fabric of what they are and mostly unseen, but no you will not be drawing water from a well for instance, nor using candle light unless for ambiance and romance. You are both doing a fine job already, its so very very exciting to me, to us! 😘😘 Sorry I rave lol
