Actually if you asked African co workers in America they would have told you that they all own homes in their African countries . An African man living in US/UK would not be able to hold his head up if he has not built a house in his country , it is part of our culture !!Usually they build in their village of origin and more recently people are buying in gated communities in cities, for security . My husband is from Nigeria and he built a house in his village years ago on land his father gave him and this year we bought a house in a gated estate in the capital city of Nigeria, Abuja . Africans living in the West remit so much money back to their countries that many African economies would collapse without the remittance of dollars / pounds/euros . Nigerans living in the West remit about 20 billion dollars / year back to Nigeria ! Ghanaians remit about 5 billion dollars/ year which represents about 6% of Ghana's GDP !

Why can’t we go back to America to see family, to take advantage of the job opportunities, we get time in Africa to build ourselves up to utilize the tools needed to navigate Africa. Africans leave Africa and bring back the Tools they need to build Africa up. We aren’t immune to making money in the West and bringing it back to Africa now that we’re living in the African Continent.
