Finally broke down, and ordered it. If A1up was ever going to fix the monitor issue, they'd have done it, by now. And now, the cab is getting scarce. So, it is what it is. at least it's an awesome cabinet, which will look nice, parked next to Defender 40th. Again, thanks for the review video.

Hey Thomas! That's so crazy of a coincidence! I was actually just thinking about our discussion about the screen last night. I was talking with another KZbinr last night about the Joust cabinet. He was telling me he has the Mortal Kombat cab that has the same screen as Joust and he was able to successfully replace the monitor. So that could be an option for ya. Glad to hear that you picked it up. It is a beautiful looking cabinet, one of my faves

@@FeralInferno Wow! Small world, and all. LOL :) Yeah, I'd thought of doing that, and after seeing the videos how to do it, I realized my vision problem won't allow me to do that level of upgrade. I do, however, have the Defender 40th, and Capcom Legacy cabs which have the exact same PCBs, well, aside from the list being adapted to favour the title for that cabinet, but they do use BOEs, so I might just go on A1up's site, and look into just buying a replacement PCB/monitor, and solve the problem, that way. Fingers crossed. :)

Joust arrived yesterday. You are SO right about that marquee! It looks amazing, with absolutely no washout. Only problems I noticed with mine are the TN monitor (hate those things), and a dead power brick. Having to borrow one from another Legacy cab to power it, till a replacement arrives. A1up is sending me one. This cab is even taller than the older Legacy Capcom, and Midway cabs. I did put Joust on an appliance cart, which is getting the good contrast area of the screen in a better position, so it looks a little more "tolerable?" LOL Again, Thanks.

Glad it got to you safely! That sucks about the power brick though. I have heard of that happening to people, luckily I haven't encountered that one (at least yet lol). Enjoy the cab my friend! Here's hoping Arcade1Up makes a comeback with some new cabs soon.

Love the cabinet art on this! This version of the Midway legacy almost got me to sell my Rampage and upgrade. But I got the Rampage day 1 so it's one that I haven't wanted to get rid of.

I was the same way with Marvel vs Capcom and the X-Men vs Street Fighter cabs. Couldn't decide which I wanted more. Had more nostalgia for XvsSF but loved the art of the MvsC cab. So just bought both cabs instead of making a decision on which one to get 😁

Nice selection of games on it bro. I love rampage especially. It was the second arcade game I ever played as a kid after operation wolf. 👍

@@FeralInferno Ralph the wolf lol. Because I was obsessed with wolfs since being a young kid. Next to black panther's they're my favourite animal. Operation wolf was fantastic on the arcade. (Omg! I just seen the connection with wolfs lol). It was around 1987. I'd have been about 8 at the time. My grandfather had taken me to the east coast of England to buy a caravan on a holiday park. (They had one on the same site previously in the 60s n 70s). Next to the park there was an old zoo that had a giant cafe that was shaped like a boat. In the corner there was an operation wolf cabinet. I remember having to stand on a stool to play it. It was 10p a play at the time. My grandfather got a load of change and stacked it up on the arcade and left me to it lol. Man, I really miss that place. The seaside town was called cleethorpes. The arcades along the seafront was amazing. It was like one long row of arcade "businesses" one after the other. It was a magical place. We'd spend every half term and summer holidays there. The summer was always great. 7 straight weeks spent in the arcades. That zoo was turned into a theme park in 91. We used to get free passes because the owner's of the theme park owned our caravan site. I was looking for it on KZbin a few weeks ago and the theme park is now abandoned. Apparently it went bust. It was pretty saddening to watch as I have great memories of that place. Even the arcades are gone on the seafront. Breaks my heart.😪😂

@Arcade Kaos lol. I think we pretty much got everything that was released in Japan and America. But by the time I started frequenting the arcades, most of the early 80s stuff was gone. All the beat em ups was filling our arcades from 87/88 onwards. The only old ones that really stuck around (for the most part) was the pacman arcades, galaga, bubble bobble, and so on and so forth. 🙌

@@FeralInferno and just like you said you were a click away from the MK 30th edition? I was a click away from buying the MK Legacy cab. I was never in to MK. I was a big Street Fighter & KI fan, but for whatever reason, just didnt get in to MK. All respect to the game though. I like the artwork, but I was so happy when I saw the Defender 40th edition. And so glad I didn't pull that trigger on MK Legacy. Whew! Take care.

You certainly could. You would have to purchase a real coin door and wire it to the control panel. That said, I wouldn't recommend it unless you really have a lot of nostalgia for putting in coins into an arcade.

nice review. i'll be getting it shortly. i'm a huge joust fan. that turbo flap is weird though. once you get to the higher levels, you never need to flap much. the score flips at 10,000,000 but the leaderboard only reports 9,999,999 so i will be trying that on the leaderboards. later -1

Hey negative1. Awesome! You'll love this cabinet if you're a big Joust fan. I'll keep an eye out for you on the leaderboards. The hyper flap is kind of weird, but I also kind of love it lol. It's an option, so for those who don't wanna use it, you can avoid it. I definitely never got that far in Joust. That's pretty cool!

The monitor is definitely the weak point, for sure. I don't think it's horrible though. It looks okay other than from an extreme angle from the right side. I had to go out fairly far before it washed out, at least on mine. I've played two player with several people, and no complaints so far. That said, I still wish it was the BOE monitor lol

How can you say that monitor looks "ok" It's gray, and washed out. It looks horrible, and is one reason I didn't buy this cabinet. It's a TN monitor. I put up with that on my Centipede Legacy, and three other gen one cabs. I don't play any of them, because I can't see well enough to see fine details, due to the washed out look of the TNs. I'm legally blind, so I must have a proper IPS type monitor. TNs aggravate cataract conditions, making it even harder to see games like Defender, Joust, Galaga, Galaxian, and other high contrast type games. Games like Pac-mania, Dig-Dug, Gauntlet, Rampage, and Bubbles are a fair bit more acceptable on the TNs, though, but barely. I recently ordered the Dig Dug Legacy, which also, unfortunately has the TN, but that game should look "ok?" on it. I love the side art for this cab which makes all the more sad that I have to pass this one up. If I had the extra money on hand, I'd just replace the monitors. Anyway, I enjoyed the review. Thanks.

I mean, yeah, I would totally prefer the BOE monitor over the TN monitor too. For me, it's okay, not great. Okay meaning decent, average, passable, etc. For reference, I've had quite a few partys and get-togethers with friends since owning the Joust cabinet and no one has made any complaints about the screen. But that's why I presented all the angles. I like to let people make up their own minds on what they like. That's one of the reasons I don't use the word "review" in my titles. Here's an overview... here's what you get and here are a few quick thoughts of mine about it. That sucks about the TN monitors aggravating cataract conditions. Thanks for checking out the video and sharing your thoughts on it! Hopefully it's BOE going forward 🙂

@@FeralInferno Your visitors were being polite. As a reviewer, you need to be more honest about these products, not just for us, but for the manufacturers. If you keep holding back important critique like how horrific the TN monitor is, they'll keep sloughing this garbage off on unsuspecting customers. You've got to be blunt with the manufacturers, and stop tolerating mediocre quality. Demand better! Be honest, and blunt, as a reviewer. That's what they need. That's what we as customers need done. The factories don't listen to us, but they do listen to you.

The monitor is fine for me. I understand your specific challenges. It sucks and I feel for ya man. But again, it's not a review. I showed ya all the angles. In your opinion, the monitor is a deal breaker, and that's fine. For me, it's just okay, as I said in the video.
