MURF8393 Hooky hadn’t touched a bass though, until him and Barney went to see the Sex Pistols and he made him go out and buy one- they formed the group and the learning came later😂 then Ian and Steve joined ages later

Yup, that's what the Sex Pistols did for music. So many people started up for the first time after seeing them. But they seem to have had an almost laser-focused impact on Manchester, so much came out of those shows they played there.

Its interesting that his talking voice wouldn't suggest that he was a baritone singer as its pitched higher than his singing voice. Strange, with some singers its the other way around Kirsty Macoll for example who's talking voice was lower than her singing.

This is the interview that Psychic TV sampled for the introduction to the extended version of the song I.C. Water that Genesis P-Orridge co-wrote in memory Ian Curtis. It was released in 1990 for the tenth anniversary of his death. It's funny to finally come across this interview after hearing a sampled snippet so many time. Apparently P-Orridge and Curtis met on occasion and had quite a lot of respect for each other. Genesis died just a couple of months ago; it's funny how close his passing was to the 40th anniversary of Curtis's death. You can hear the track and the sample from this interview that was used at /watch?v=CsMmxqdbt4c

Was he lying when he said none of the songs are about death? Or just trying to fool himself?
@birdiedog58 жыл бұрын
I though i was cute the way he said "but we're not, none of the songs are" when it seems that is not really the case. Maybe he was interpreting them differently in his mind or wanted others to think that is not what they were about
@leejackson60168 жыл бұрын
Fool himself I think. Or other people .
@mcblahflooper947 жыл бұрын
I think what he meant is that writing about "death and stuff" is really easy, referencing heavy metal lyrics and performances, when in reality Joy Division writes more about the feelings of tragic events. Sure he writes about death and stuff, but he writes about it more from the perspective of the feelings and individual results of these things. He's more focused in his writing than writing about it in a broad fashion.

Americans don't understand, and never will, what Joy Division was all about. I don't care how much you think you like the music or dislike it, it's not for you. This is a purely British phenomenon belonging to its time and place in the white working class culture of NW England of the late 70s.

Music is quite diverse and people can relate to lyrics wherever they are from. It's like saying Elvis and Johnny Cash was for Americans only because they sang about American themes and locations.
