I was a paintbrush post BUT I use a stencil brush that is the diameter of a pencil (not lead but whole pencil) and pour my Best Press into a shot glass, not a bowl…so usually need to refill shot glass rather than returning unused solution to container. STA FLO - under $3/gal (Walmart) and it is used diluted (usually 1 part Sta Flo to 3 parts water but less or more depending on how stiff you need). I use a 27 oz (0.2 gal) pump garden sprayer. I usually spray fabric and hang it to dry, then press with steam to soften and preshrink, but solution can also be used in a hand sprayer for smaller areas. Best cost savings EVER!!!

I have one of those pump garden sprayers too but only use it for water instead of trying to fill the little reservoirs of my domestic irons. It works great for that. I prefer my gravity feed iron though because the the water reservoir is HUMONGOUS.

I have seen "talk" on various lists that Sta-Flo is being discontinued and I know it is quite popular. Not sure if that is true - but those who use it have been encouraging others to contact the company and ask those businesses who no longer carry it to restock it. Also - several people mentioned using a paint brush for applying the starch to seams.

@@joyfulandmerryquilting I've also read Sta-Flo is done. I prefer Linit Starch, I feel it has a better 'hand' than Sta-Flo and doesn't flake as much. Unfortunately I can only find it online where I live.

My marker set came with pipettes to allow me to fill them. I prefer using the wider version because it holds more than the smaller ones. Since I have 2 ironing stations (full sized and one by my sewing machine) I keep 2 of 'em filled at all times now. It's been a WONDERFUL trick to make flat seams!!!

I'm so glad! I like the wider tip also - I have the 10mm tip and then use the short side when marking the seam. It works well. I have mine "here and there" as well! Love having more than one! Thanks so much for sharing Mea!

Mary ❤ another great video I do love the educational ones. Yes, most of us have been quilting for 30 or 40 years, but we can never get enough information. Learning from others, no cost Thank You I wish everyone could be kind and not put Strife into my sewing life ❤

I use StaFlo and apply it with a rechargeable garden sprayer. Easy and not messy.

From what I understand it's being discontinued. You may want to check with your local store and stock up if you use it a lot.

Stitch & Sew quilt shop in Arthur is delightful! I was impressed with the fabric selection, all the new collections and lots of kits available. Unfortunately, it's over an hour drive for me so I don't make it there very often.

Yes - I also agree! I didn't realize that Miller's Dry Goods closed permanently. That makes me sad - it was a wonderful store and I loved going there.

I purchased those from Amazon but haven't tried one yet. Sorry I missed your live taping. I don't live near an Amish community but plan to visit one in Pennsylvania in September.

I purchased everything that you recommended. My seams are FLAT! Thanks! One thing that I would appreciate: Could you please tell me where to purchase a seam ripper/stiletto combo similar to the one that you show on your “workshop” re seam rippers. It would make life so much simpler to have the combo instead of having to grab one and then the other. Thanks, Mary. Pat Berne

Hi Pat - a friend gave me mine. Etsy has several listed. Some are handmade and quite expensive, but beautiful. Here's a link: www.etsy.com/search?q=seam%20ripper%20stiletto%20combo&ref=auto-1&as_prefix=seam%20ripper%20stiletto%20

Dollar Tree sells refillable paint brushes (2/$1.25) that work well with this technique. 😊
