This foundation paper piecing tutorial covers my three favorite ways to foundation piece, including one way you've probably never seen before (but believe me - it's a good one)!
Perforated Rotary Blades: amzn.to/448dvBR
So far, Amazon is the only place I can find these blades. But keep in mind, wherever you look, do NOT get a skip-stitch blade - it won't work the same way!
Foundation piecing is a simple and effective way to make your quilt blocks look perfect every time. It's always helpful to learn new quilting techniques to make the craft a little quicker, a little easier, and a lot more joyful - so in this video, I walk you through foundation piecing from start to finish, demonstrating 3 excellent methods along the way. I'll also help you avoid common foundation piecing mistakes.
Be sure to download your free instructions and patterns to practice your favorite way, and take a look at my other tutorial that covers another popular FPP method: foundation piecing with freezer paper!

My tracing wheel is over 50 years old and still works great! My tip would be that when you use your tracing wheel you lay your paper on your ironing board or wool pressing mat and then run the tracing wheel over the line, using your ruler for accuracy. This allows the wheel to make bigger holes and tearing off is a breeze.

This video is so easy to understand. I have done both FPP using copy paper and freezer paper FPP and both work well. It depends on the project which method I use. I use my very old tracing wheel that actually slightly perforates the paper making it easier to remove the paper.

This tutorial is so good! Easy to follow but doesn't treat us like idiots. I have a rather complicated PP pattern I've been wanting to try, but I've been scared off by complaints about the method. (Too complicated, you have to work backwards, it wastes fabric) Your video as inspired me to give it a try.

You always make things so much easier than they appear. And thank you for the how to measure for fabric piece sizing. I have loved paper piecing since my first Project Linus Quilt! Thank you again❤

I usually "get a hankering" to use a certain color or fabric. Then I look through my quilting books and KZbin for the quilt pattern I want to use.

Thanks for the perforating blade tip! I did buy one of those flimsy marking tools because it was all that was available. And threw it out. Have the blades in my cart! I have sometimes stitched the line with no thread but the blade should be faster. Hoping to use for freezer paper FPP.

Thanks, Mary, for this tutorial. I like foundation paper piecing, but I hate the tearing off of the paper. I will definitely try the freezer paper, but mainly I want to try the perforating blade.

Just got into FPP and love it but really love the pattern that gives size to cut fabric but how do you measure for the odd sizes or long funny size LOL or a oblong square and all, love your videos and do you have patterns out?

It's called: 5 Pack 45mm Crochet Edge Skip Blade Perforated Rotary Blades for Paper Perforating Fleece Fabric Scrapbooking. The Amazon link in the video description is correct.

This first tutorial is just the "how to" of creating a foundation pieced block using simple triangular shapes. I hope to have several tutorials, eventually addressing the "odd shaped pieces" but it would have been WAY TO LONG to include that information in this tutorial. Thanks so much for watching!

The free gift is the pdf pattern with the written instructions plus the printable foundation patterns, detailed instructions on how to put them together as well as the measurements for each piece, for each of the 3 blocks. The link to the pdf is in the description.
