The first aid clear tape is a wonderful solution. I have many rulers purchased before I discovered creative grids. This has been one of the most favorite tips I’ve ever received. Thank you!

I've used True Grips for years and find they really work very well. They do wear out after a while and need to be replaced from time to time but are quite affordable and well worth it.

I like a product called Invisigrip. It comes in a roll and you cut it to fit your ruler. Wrapping the ruler in a piece of saran wrap works like a charm too.

I have two five-pound hex head weights that I use when strip cutting with a 24-inch ruler. I still have to move my hand to the far end when I cut there, but at least the ruler stays put while I do. I love the 12 1/2 x 24 inch Creative Grids ruler for strip cuts. Plenty of room to plop down those weights!

Oh hey im loving the tape Mary. Im 75 and im just learning. And i was squaring up a yard of fabric and my rulers kept slipping which cost me precious inches of fabric. I dont have a lot,of money for quilting as it is but to have to buy more yardage makes my blood boil. But its my inability to keep the rulers in place thats costing me money. So this tape will help. I dont have any weights but i m looking for something else heavy too in case

Hi Marlene, I have made a video since this one where I test "Grippy" and I have found that it's an even better way to keep rulers from slipping. I've used it for a while now, and I love it. Here's the link if you'd like to take a look: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYDMoYhsfdOSjbc Thanks so much for watching.

I use True Grips on all my rulers that aren’t non-slip. I cut the circles into halves and quarters to get shapes that can be put close to the ruler edges and corners. I even use the rubber pieces that are in between the circles on the True Grips sheets. I never move the True Grips around between rulers or on the backs of them. I put them on the backs of fussy cut rulers and Marti Michele templates as well.

Rustoleum paint products makes a product meant for spraying on stair treads to make them non-slip and it works great in a light coat. I tried it on a blockloc ruler once. (Someone I knew had a can already open so I could try it.) I taped off all but a strip through the center from point to point perpendicular to the groove and taped off the groove. Quick little spray over it and no more slipping blockloc. There is also a tape on a roll meant for this. It’s slightly more rough to the touch than the medical tape. I bought it forever ago off of an Etsy site and I didn’t think it wasn’t too poorly priced at least at the time. It works great and you can customize the size pieces you want. Definitely want to balance your pieces across the ruler because it is thicker than other products.

I use the rubber strip the technician tied around my arm for a blood draw. She looked at me funny when I asked to keep it, but when I explained she gave me a couple extra! The downside to this solution is that I have to put it in place every time; it's not glued to the ruler. But it holds the ruler in place nicely.

I wonder if you could put the weights on the outside edge of the ruler. It would prevent the ruler from slipping but allow you to not be incumbered by the weight on the ruler. Just a thought.

I love the TrueGrips…the circles are great for large rulers and the dots work well on smaller rulers. Invisigrip rolls work beautifully as well

Of all the tips ( that are wonderful!) you haven’t tried “Grippy” by Odin. I did every ruler that has no grip on it. It works beautifully! I laid all the rulers out, back side up and LIGHTLY sprayed them. I have not needed to redo after about 2 Years.

I am wondering how the basting spray would work on the back of them?
@joyfulandmerryquilting
@joyfulandmerryquilting Жыл бұрын
I didn't include that as a tip - I found it made the rulers sticky and lint collected on them. It's really difficult to get it off the rulers - and there are some cleaning solutions that cause the rulers to get permanently cloudy. For me, the other products work better. Thanks for watching.

I have a June Taylor Strip Cutting Set. Currently use 5 # weight but it still slips when cutting 2.5" strips. I love the tape suggestion idea. Long strips between the slots should work. Thanks!

My rotating mat is very slippery and the fabric is always moving when I’m cutting. What can I do about that. Please don’t tell me to get a new mat - too expensive!
@joyfulandmerryquilting
@joyfulandmerryquilting 10 ай бұрын
I have found that when I use a Quilter's Select Ruler, nothing slips. Yes, they are expensive, but not as expensive as a new mat. I use the Quilter's Select rulers on my Martelli rotating mat, my Omnigrid rotating mat, and my Creative Grids Rotating mat. They're all different surfaces, but the non-skid surface on the Quilter's Select Rulers seems to hold my blocks in place without slipping. I hope that helps.
