Joyo Atmosphere reverb

When Joyo released their 'Revolution' series a few years ago, the R-14 Atmosphere was the one that really caught my attention. Decent quality reverb is hard to find under £100, so I was very keen to see what this one was like.

The Tone and Mod knob for the Shimmer effect is one of the reasons I switched from my Hall Of Fame 2 to this pedal. I love that you can dial it back.

Great demo. This is one of my favourite little boxes. The range of things that it does is amazing, and that mod knob is magic. At the list price the Atmosphere is steal. I have a couple of other reverbs and would happily trade them in for a JHS Octave Reverb, but this one is a keeper. If anyone thinks some of the sounds are a bit harsh, try it on an electro-acoustic guitar. It sounds good on 6-and 12-string.

Solid review! I appreciate you showing the things you liked and the things you didn't. That noise floor is a bit intense... But you can call it lofi and write it off 😅

Thanks! I always yet and give my honest thoughts and observations with the pedals I demo. Yeah, the background hiss is kind of a bummer, but also it sounds pretty great and costs very little, so I think they almost cancel each other out. 😄

@@PedalExperiments Maybe. I run mine from an isolated supply power brick. Perhaps that's relevant. I don't suppose you would use a daisy chain, they can be poor.

I like the weirder modes.. it's mono though, right? No stereo via TRS on in/out? Just always seems sad for a reverb.. that noise ain't great either.. Cheers for the review 👍

Yeah, I'm afraid it's mono. But at this price point, that's a pretty common thing to see, unfortunately. And yeah, the weird reverb modes are fantastic, but the hiss will no doubt be a bit of a deal-breaker for most...

I had one of these and loved it until it just stopped dead one day. That made me sell my Joyo Aquarius before it went kaput as well. I did keep the Joyo Vision as a do-it-all modulation pedal.

@PedalExperiments, yeah I really enjoyed the sounds, even if some were a bit too "digital". But apparently Joyo quality control might not be the best. Or I was just unlucky.

@craigbragg2842 I've never known what makes an effect "sound digital", but I guess a couple of the modes sound a bit lacklustre compared to something more high-end, like the Ventris. I just wish the Ventris had as many weird reverb algorithms as this has!

@@PedalExperiments, I think for me in this case it's sort of the metallic sound some of the reverbs had. That's the best way I can describe it. It's sort of that sound that doesn't seem at all natural. But sometimes that's exactly the thing you want.

hey so I just got mine and for some reason whenever i activate it in ekoverb mode theres a very noticeable volume drop. does this happen to yours?

this is the most amazing pedal demonstration I've ever seen. Much appreciated and I have subscribed I bought a gang of Temu pedals just to see if I would be interested in pedals at all....and that experiment made me upgrade a few of the ones giving me problems and I started to scrap this pedal completely as well but this video made me realize how useful this pedal is which helps as I am trying to trim options down so I can get to my ideal setup. I never realized some of the functions of this pedal can fully replace a few slots (delay and chorus for me personally, a bass player)

I highly recommend that you review the EHX Oceans 11, I own that pedal and it's incredible !! This Joyo sounds very metallic. I am sure you could possibly pull some of that back, but perhaps not? Cheers, love your demos

Thanks for the recommendation! I've heard nothing but good things about that pedal, so I definitely want to try one at some point. I've also never tried a Boss RV-5 or RV-6, so I'm keen to pick up those as well. You're right, there are some rather metallic aspects to a lot of the modes in this pedal, but if you dial back the 'Tone' knob, a lot of that goes away. Still not ideal for someone who likes a brighter sounding reverb, though. 😄 Thanks for watching!

I had the RV6. It's a great sounding reverb. The only drawback is some of the Sounds are a bit samey, there's no infinite and it's a bit pedestrian, as in non of the settings go to crazy town. That said its stereo and handles all the hot signals you can throw at it. Horses for courses. For a musician it's a class act, given the size and build quality. For more out there noise monkeys, it's lacking. I've had the Oceans recommended by people, but not as much as the Cathedral but it's as big as a er..... Cathedral. I'm taken by the MXR300, it has near infinite on some settings, a stereo option for TRS leads and small without too many pesky knobs to give decision paralysis. It's also boasts massive headroom for the hottest signals. No more scratchy digital clipping. I currently own a Polaris I picked up reasonably priced but the MXR is on my wish list.

I've demoed the M300! I agree, it's a fantastic pedal. I suspect I'd probably feel the same way as you about the RV-6, based on what you said. Maybe I'll give it a miss and go straight for the Oceans 11...

Yeah, there are some unwanted elements in this pedal. But there are many settings that sound fantastic! I would never recommend this over something like the Source Audio Ventris, of course. But for £40 - £50 second hand, I think it's worth picking up, and can be a lot of fun. 👍🏻
