Hello Jeff. We have a guy that repairs diesel pumps of any sort. He is magic. We don't know how he does it. There's only him and his son and he's magga busy.

Harbor Freight has a nice ultrasonic cleaner with a built in heater that might be good for cleaning stuff like that. I'm planning on buying one to try it out. Back in the day when GM came out with the 5.7 olds diesel they had Roosa Master pumps and those flexible drive rings were always the first thing to fail. Usually around 25,000 miles, that and all the other issues they had left a lot of people with ill feelings over owning a diesel powered vehicle. My dad and I changed a lot of injection pumps at our shop back in the 80's. I still have his '79 Tornado diesel which I drive every summer.

Jeff, It looks like there has been some water find its way into that pump. That is why the plungers were stuck. There may have been a comment about this already. Pumps don’t like water, the tolerances are so close that a very small amount of moisture causes them to jam up. Just touching the plungers before they go in will be enough to do it. A very good TAFE (Technical And Further Education) teacher taught us that but I have never had one apart, you are fearless when it comes to stuff like this. Jeff

Hytrack final drive hubs dont have a problem with loose segments, the problem they have is people who do not have a clue how to salvage the hub segment flange coectly, when new or reclamed corectly the segment bolts will never be loaded in shear. If the segment flange bolt holes are worn that is a symptom of another fault. The bolt hole sleeves you reference are for the original D10 84W hub which is the only hub that has a tight fit between the bolt shank and the segment flange hole. Weding any hytrack final drive hub is also a no go, if the flange is cracked or to thin it is scrap.👍

Another very interesting video, Jeff.. I like seeing inside of gadgets to see what makes them tick. Brian Block is quite an interesting man... an incredible source of knowledge on all things mechanical. Have been watching him for many years... since the "barn shop" days. The array of Monster lathes and milling machines he has is impressive. Looking forward to seeing you put it all back together. Wishing you and Mrs. Paydirt all the best.... Russ

Be sure and blow out the return line to the tank as those tiny broken pieces will restrict or stop the return flow of fuel to the tank. The return line comes out of the cover on the top of pump housing. There should be a spring loaded glass check ball in the fitting that screws into the top housing, make sure it is installed and no debris is blocking it.

G'day Jeff, Allen Millyard a British motorcycle genius uses the BBQ with great success, to release all his tolerance and glue fittings. 24 hr epoxy is great for holding fittings ,but it's also possible to use varnish to glue surfaces, just as they do to hold ships propellers on. Just check that adhesive compounds aren't devolved by solvents before using in hydrocarbon situation s/applications. Respect...!

Using JB weld for metal, says its no affected by petro products and has a heat rating to 550 F
@Sircraig796310 ай бұрын
@Jpaydirt Hi Jeff. JB WELD. Is a great product,I've used it in many repairs including hydrocarbon/fuel repairs . Mainly used it for its overall strength. As for heat ,I've found a few other products that are recommended for higher temps than JB WELD ,particularly for use in manifolds, blocks and head repairs . For the fuel pump situation ,JB will offer an almost permanent repair . Jeff wins again ..! Respect

Since it’s already broken I’d be curious to see what the delivery valve really looks like. I’ve rebuilt a few of these, the first one is a bit scary but they’re really not bad to do. Hopefully whoever you’re dealing with can provide your roller dimensions for setting your fuel rate since you have to change the head.
@Jpaydirt10 ай бұрын
I can't get it out I've tried everything, and I even ruined it so it doesn't matter anymore, my book tells me the roller to roller dimension and since it's in a crane I'm not worried about overfueling it
@billmoran381210 ай бұрын
I made up my mind years ago it just wasn’t worth it to mess with injection pumps. I just take them off, and either get it rebuilt or swap it for a reman. If it’s an engine that has sat for many years or had water in the fuel, I do the same with the injectors.
@andyfields324810 ай бұрын
I didn't know you had the problem till too late but . . . If you could pump grease into that with a grease gun it'd come out. If you couldn't plumb it you could have sent it to me, I'd have machined an adapter. I owe you one anyway.

Those governor drive bands were made from polyurethane, the update is a welded steel cage, if the drive band breaks, the engine will not run faster than an idle.

I looked at the videos didn't see any other crane videos.I'm betting that is IH d282 . If so you are a CAT guy and are going to be very frustrated with it. Couple tips if you don't know. Glow Plugs,Glow Plugs,Glow Plugs they have to work or it won't start. Crank the engine holding the Glow plug button and keep holding it till the engine runs smooth and the injectors clean up. Those Injectors have a very low cracking pressure and don't atomize very well.Keep the starting fluid in the truck and away from it. I know it's tempting but dont. Most D282 died decades ago from the juice. Hope it helps someone you probably already know this.

We're you successful in getting it running again? Reason I ask is because I just finished rebuilding mine and now I fired up the tractor and it has a extremely high idle. Only way I was able to shut her down was by yanking the fuel delivery line. I'm wondering what could be the cause? If you can help I'd really appreciate it. Thank you
@Jpaydirt2 ай бұрын
did it runaway or just high idle? runaway would be something in the governor, and high idle would be something under the top cover binding
@LifenSantaBarbara2 ай бұрын
I'm not sure o know the difference. It sounded like the beginning of a runaway. I contacted a guy at Area Diesel and sent him a picture of the top cover removed He said the return spring around the long bolt was improperly fit. I placed it the way he said it needed to be and I tried to start it once Seemed like it was beginning to get a high idle and I was afraid of what's gonna happen next so I quickly shut her down
