This is a subject I am very interested in, yet struggle with. I feel minimalistic images invoke calm, and reflective thoughts. Even so, when I set out to create them, I often fail. Thank you for another great video!

What does that mean?
@thomasclark6313 жыл бұрын
I primarily pursue images on the street. A method I’ve been experimenting with is the use of wide aperture combined with neutral density filters in order to isolate the subject. The filters reduce the probability of over exposure; the wide aperture yields shallow depth of field thus isolating the subject from both foreground and background.
@ForsgardPeter3 жыл бұрын
That works well.

Peter, for me, Max Bill of Bauhaus, represents minimalism. Horology is also an interest of mine. Max Bill was hired by Junghans of Germany to create watch faces. He was very successful.

Shooting with a constraint (one lens/one camera) is a great way to stretch your creative brain. You have to think about the image a lot more when your gear is limited.

Thank you so much for your videos. I would have not forgiven myself if I had bought anything else but the Olympus M43 system. Today I bought my Olympus E-PL9 with kit lens and with 45mm f1.8 to begin with. Next I want to buy a circular polarizer, a must for me! I was wondering, have you already made a video about the usage of a polarizer in the past?

Watched this great video too late.. (It will be online in 10, 20 or even more years, unless you delete it). One thing: Macro photography is great for making minimalistic images. I bet you can make a dozen or more great minimalistic images without even leaving your home (or living room or kitchen), as many of us are supposed to nowadays...

@@ForsgardPeter actually, if you do the white-on-white or black-in-black really well, you'll create an incredibly powerful image. It's a technique I've often used in my career as a professional photographer. "Understated" is the term I use. Rick

Interesting. These have a true Nordic Vibe to them that I was first turned on to here when I was visiting my son in Copenhagen fotografiskcenter.dk Mads Peter Iversen, a Danish photographer I follow offers the same Nordic sensibilities: quite, understated and not, unlike many North American photographers, in your face. If I had to encapsulate what I learned while visiting various galleries in DK was that economy of line and space are keys. Thanks for this.
