Thanks for your incisive and useful tips for the OM-1 and its many - often daunting - features!

It has been a delight watching your videos. I recently bit the bullet and bought a used Olympus OM-D E-M1 body that was taken care of beautifully through its 10k photos history, and seeing your passion for this platform camera is genuinely inspiring!

Thanks. What is the thing you like to photograph the most?

@@ForsgardPeter Currently, the most common figures I'll be photographing will be animals and nature - and I love photographing dogs in particular! So what drew me to the OM-D E-M1 platform was how people like yourself describe the performance on colour and contrast. Getting sharpness and colour from fur is a hard ask of some cameras in differing lighting, but I want to give this a shot. I'll also be, as we say here in Australia, "Out Bush". So I'll be taking some scenery photography of semi-rural bush land over December and into the new year.

Thanks for sharing. Dogs are quite had to photograph unless they pose. Even when posing there are a certain way they need to pose if we look at what the breeders say.

Excellent info, as usual Peter... I'm leaning to OM-1 even more now. Thank you from Australia.

SmallRig really make some good things. I have a vertices cage on mine and it fits really nice. Doesn’t interfere with camera handling or camera controls, and you can easily change battery and SD cards. I’ve never needed to remove it since I put it on. They are somewhat more expensive than others, but well worth it.

Just waiting for mine to arrive. I have had a full cage on my GH5S for a few years, but this looks a lot lighter, fewer 'sharp' edges and easier to hand hold. Should provide enough connection points for my compact travel rig, OM-1, Rode Wireless Go 2, Rode Videomic NTG and Átomos Shinobi 5 monitor. Glad they made this.

Hello Peter, thanks for this little introduction. Will you (or have you already) made a detailed video about video work with the OM 1? I'm still confused with the different video modes.

When will the OM-1 cage with battery grip be available?
@kamilrakowski232 жыл бұрын
I got my cage two days ago. I also have a follow focus mini from smallrig with extra gears. A brilliant combination with pro lenses with a manual clutch. I only have one more dream. Prores raw in davinci resolve, because now we have prores raw without any crop, which distinguishes om-1 from m1miii. And autofocus works much better in prores raw mode in om-1 compared to m1miii.
@ForsgardPeter2 жыл бұрын
Do you use Prores raw a lot. I have to admit that I have not even tried it with my OM-1.
@kamilrakowski232 жыл бұрын
@@ForsgardPeter Honestly not at all. I use windows and davinci and my pc loves the h265 420. The om log is easy to work with and looks great. However, there is one thing that interests me. This is a prores raw to hdr10 conversion. My friend uses final cut pro and prores raw and creates video in hdr10. It looks very impressive. Om-1 has hlg hdr like many cameras, but most TVs and smartphones have a problem with hlg footage, or they don't support hlg at all. Hdr10 is completely different and looks amazing.

Interesting, never tested that.

Thx Peter, the Rig looks great for Video use. One Question, if you use an External Monitor and the Monitor is not 4K/60 compatible, is it possible to record in 4K 60 on the OM-1 and you only get a 1080p Signal or 4k 30 on the external Monitor? Thank you
@kamilrakowski232 жыл бұрын
Let me answer your question. Of course, it is possible. You can even use your smartphone as a monitor. You only need a cheap adapter, a smartphone with usb otg (preferably fast, because you will have no lag) and a usb c to micro hdmi cable.

Sorry... Does the camera stands up with that smallrig mini cage on a table or it falls down due to the asimmetry of the small base?
@ForsgardPeter Жыл бұрын
With smaller lenses it does stand up, but with bigger lenses it tilts forward.
@MarcoPi-pq5kg Жыл бұрын
@@ForsgardPeter thanks a lot. However inwas speaking about falling to the right or the left, cause the basement is smaller Than the camera. So tour answer makes me understand It doesn't fall to the side but only on the front, if mounting heavy Lens, which Is normale i think. Thanks a lot! M

Hello, is it possible with this cage to quick change from horizontal to vertical position when attached to your tripod? Regards

Not that easy. I need to have a tripod plate. It does not have Arca Swiss on the sides.

There is a link to H&Y in the description. It seems that Amazon does not have that. here is a link to H&Y webstore: hyfilters.net/product/swift-magnetic-collapsible-lens-hood/?ref=PeterF
