He's not just a highly successful actor, comedian and tv host, he's also a highly succesful writer, novelist, playwright, debater and maker of documentaries. He also campaigns consistently on a whole range of issues, particularly issues of equality, free speech and mental health. He's also a marvelous raconteur and wit, of course. :)

Stephen is regularly the most erudite and well informed person in any group, so it's a delight to watch the ease with which he unintentionally dominates any group in which he finds himself. The video where he shows off his talent for mimicking accents is particularly entertaining and very funny.

We love to see the reruns of when he was the moderator for QI. His talents shined marvelously as well as trying to keep the very smart and even better comedians in rein. As much as we love British humor some detective shows on BritBox can be too serious. That's when QI gives you the interesting facts that the comedians seldom get correct. But, the comedy is sorely needed and we truly love the show.

Stephen Fry had a mental breakdown 20 odd years ago. He really impressed me at my brothers graduation Stephens first time back was at Dundee University he had 3 days of shaking hands. He was amazing because there was a lot of hoha in the paper at the time because he had gone missing, so turning up at Dundee was fantastic.

Yes Stephen has written four novels, including Making History about an alternative world where Hitler wasn't born, three autobiographies and of late he has been writing about the Myths of Ancient Greece. Lots of Audio books, he has also done all the Sherlock Holmes stories. He adapted and wrote the excellent film Bright Young Things and played the detective in the brilliant Gosforth Park though his biggest film role was as Oscar Wilde in Wilde. On TV he has done lots, the best thing you haven't looked at is Jeeves and Wooster where he played the servant to Hugh Laurie.

Apparently, he also voice-recorded the entire Harry Potter series, which I would like to hear some day. I have a different spoken-version, that my children listened to on our road trips to British Columbia and to Ontario, but I would enjoy listening to Stephen's version on my next road-trip across Canada!

Recently the BBC has been re-showing episodes of “A Bit of Fry and Laurie” (first broadcast in 1989) a series of comedy sketches by Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie. Watching them again reminds me of how innovative and groundbreaking they were. - in the style of Monty Python and the Goons.

Just to fill you in, in case it went over your head, when Stephen Fry mentioned Princess Diana wanted to watch Spitting Image. It’s a parody show with puppets resembling real people in politics or popular culture, but with super exaggerated features about them. The funny thing about it is that they often parodied the Royal Family in episodes, so when she says “I’m going to watch it tonight in my room, they all hate it, I love it” says a lot about the person Diana was.

Stephen Fry is, among his many attributes, a singularly wonderful story-teller! He just engages our attention and holds us in the palm of his hand while he tells his tales. And Graham Norton's off-hand comment about many Vicars agreeing with Stephen is nearer to the truth than some would find comfortable. Also, I think Graham did play a very young priest in an Irish TV series, so he himself might have some insight into the profession!

I remember watching the Charles and Diana story a while back, and it was just around the time the season when Diana is introduced into The Crown had been released I think, and they very accurately portray just how much everyone was in awe of her everywhere, so your reaction to "and then Princess Diana comes out of the shadows" is very much my own when I first watched this too. Like "damn, you got to see Diana at her peak". I just love how everyone these days even, 20+ years after her passing, still feel that collective "wow" moment whenever stories like these are brought up

Check out his booklist. He's a prolific writer, genius scholar. I had a couple of his books signed in Heffers Bookshop in Cambridge where I live. I loved the interview he had with Jordan Peterson who begins every talk he gives by telling everyone how very clever he is. Fry is the opposite, ever humble, and gently breaks down Peterson's word salad. Peterson's reaction, when he realises he has met more than his match, is brilliant. Love Stephen.

Since you like both Stephen Fry AND Hugh Laurie, I'd suggest watching "Jeeves And Wooster." KZbin has several clips of Laurie (as Bertie Wooster) playing piano and Fry (Jeeves, the butler) trying to be nice with his comments. It was a brilliant series. Also, I still advocate you watch "Beyond the Fringe," an early '60s comedy revue with Alan Bennett, Dudley Moore, Peter Cook, and Jonathan Miller. It launched the careers of all four. And if you don't have time to watch the entire show, you must at least watch "The Great Train Robbery," one of the most brilliant word play sketches ever written (Bennett) and performed (Cook and Bennett).

Stephen Fry was friends with Douglas Adams (Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy) Adams wrote a book about endangered animals, Last Chance to See. Adams died and Fry did a documentary about these animals with naturalist Mark Carwadine in 2009. I recommend the series. One of the things they did was not to fly. They took a 3 week voyage from New Zealand to Brazil. During that time, Fry had a Portuguese dictionary and taught himself to speak Portuguese in 3 weeks. MIND BLOWN. 🤯
