Susan seemed like a 'good ole gal' and very enthusastic about bees. I'm very happy she was in this video BECAUSE she didn't have the same feel for Bees that JP has. She provided a good contrast to JPs gentler, slower and smoother methods. Seeing that difference was very educational. Susan +1

Kevin Carpenter I agree with you ! I have notice also my bee skills have gotten better through the year . Happy bees are easier to work than mad bees and handling has a big part in it.

I actually cringed when she started scraping them poor bee's up the side of that tree and especially when she threw them over on the box, poor things I'm sure she's a nice enough lady and means well but damn she talked a lot! Her talking would actually make me nervous let alone the bee's!!

My back has improved tremendously. I get flare ups now and again but for the most part, it doesn't bother me. Almost good as new. My neck on the other hand still bothers me frequently but it has improved as well. I thought for a while my neck would require surgery but currently I'm not desperate enough to go forth with neck surgery. Thank goodness. ...JP

Love your videos. You have a great likeable attitude for life. Couple questions. Why do you leave the queen in the catcher when she goes in the box and how can you tell the difference between a drown and a queen?
@JPthebeeman8 жыл бұрын
I cage the queen so that if the colony decides to swarm out, they have to come back to the set up. Sometimes they will do this up to 3-4 times. By then they have no choice but to get busy & once I see they've started building new comb & established themselves I will then release her. Drones' eyes bug out more than queens and worker bees. They have kind of a chubby look to them. The queen's abdomen is longer & always tapered to a point.
@gary51728 жыл бұрын
Respectfully...I know Suzy is a friend of yours, but you let her be too rough at scraping those bees off of the branches.
@JPthebeeman8 жыл бұрын
That was a one time thing my friend. Even though she was abrupt I agree with you on that, the bees honestly could care less & albeit it looked rough, none were injured that I recall. Bees are tougher than you'd think.

Sometimes people in their speech will form an imagined verb from orientation and say orientate. At best, orientate is a back-formation used humorously to make the speaker sound pompous. The correct word is the verb orient.

What is an Abscond?
@JPthebeeman8 жыл бұрын
+Lorral333 an abscond is when the entire colony leaves en masse. This can happen for a variety of reasons: parasites such as ants, predators such as skunks or wasps or if a tree or building has fallen, etc...

Fascinating segment at the end with a sub-group heading up to the tree. This reinforces why you orient your activities to find the queen. They couldn't get into the box fast enough, they were already in swarm mode, but with the queen caged, you are in control....as long as there is one queen.
