This home was vacant & no one knew exactly how long the bee hive had been living in the wall. The buyers decided they wanted the wall opened, the bees & all contents removed. George Peake, my contractor friend repaired the brick wall once the removal process was completed.

I vacuum the bees using what is called a "bee vac". There are many different versions. I own several different designs. A good bee vac saves more than 99% of the bees vacuumed from the colony. I set up each and every colony I remove in either one of my bee yards or that of good friends. ...JP

@dopemelody Great question! Do you want rotting bees, brood & fermenting honey in your walls? It stinks to high heaven, honey stains jet black & you also run the risk of contaminating healthy colonies with dust as bees rob any available honey. They get dust on them which they bring back into their colonies, equalling contamination. Eliminating a colony of honey bees in many cases is much easier said than done. Besides the fact that bees are important and cool insects to remove & relocate.

It is a commercially available bee repellant that is primarily used when harvesting honey. This is not a product you want to spray directly on the bees. It should not be used to drive bees out of a void unless they have been there less than a week and when applied should only be applied behind the colony so they can exit the void through the entrance they were using to access the hive. ...JP

LOL cause for 1,he's calm n in control while doing the procedure. He's prob been doing this for so long that its 2nd nature to him now. Plus,as he's stated,he's studied the science on bees in terms of how they operate so he knows the in's and out's on how to deal with them. The videos I've seen of JP handling bees I'd say he's the best I've seen in terms of handling them and his procedures on doing so. He's gentle with them n respects them so thats a part too. U learn alot watching his vids.

Another nice video JP. So do you team up with contractors to help you with certain jobs, like brick walls and such. I think that's a great idea if so. They can handle the bricks, and you can handle the bees. Do you both then charge by the hour? How have you found that makes that work well for the both of you financially? And for the customer? Thanks for the great video.

Really super aggressive bees will go for your hands but most prefer to sting somewhere near the face if at all. The Co2 we breathe out, I'm convinced is what attracts them to the head area. Additionally, unless their stings really burn and some do but many don't, I just scrape the stinger from my hand and move on with little effect. ...JP

When you remove a hive from a structure, is it simply the occupant's job to do any repairs when you are finished? I assume you do as little damage as possible, charge them, and then leave with the bees, leaving them to do the repairs.

@GunBroker100

As long as you move slowly and don't accidentally smash a bee, they don't sting. Honey bees only sting as a last resort, they are not wasps. I routinely handle my bees and the hive frames without gloves and the only time I get stung is if it accidentally mash a bee. When you get close to the Queen you have to take extra care not to alarm her. The colony will get quite aggressive to defend her. But honey bees in general are really quite docile.
@GunBroker100
@GunBroker100 11 жыл бұрын
CO2 is what irritates them, so does ammonia,(sweat) and many animal based colognes. Bees really don't like these. Aggressive hives should be re-Queened with a more docile queen. Been keeping bees 40 years and when I find an aggressive hive, I re-Queen. I had a removal from a double brick wall this past spring, the comb extended nearly to the base of a 10 foot wall. Took out a lot more bricks, and it was a tough removal, I got stung a bunch. It is a huge colony and I got about 300 pounds of honey

Nice work! You make it look easy. Right now I'm trying to coax a colony out of a brick wall by installing a cone of hardware cloth on their main access with a super of drawn comb inches form the exit but they keep finding other ways back in. I can't really take the wall apart. I'm just keep plugging every new way back into the wall.

Because, they are not Africanized (killer) bees and they are not Wasps. They are just plain old honey bees. They are generally quite docile and sting only as a last resort or in defense of their hive or Queen. They are just little bees, not monsters to be feared. Unlike people, honey bees don't murder anything or anyone. They will try to run you off, but that's about it.

JP, answer this one. I do know that bees are agitated by noise and vibrations, and I hardly see you use smoke to sedate them. How are you able to use power tools like that without agitating them?

Pretty much same place.. I have an old brick house (about 100+ years old) with double - brick walls.. they are currently on the backwall area of my house I'm thinking they are around a window area but I've seen them go in and out through hole where the tuck pointing had failed... I had to mortar that area over because water was getting in and leaking in my kitchen.. Then they found some small cracks around the window to enter and exit from which on the sides of the window which tells me that the area's are connected and there are probably much more than what I'm seeing...

Not sure where you are located in NJ the cost for a job like this would have to run somewhere north of $500 because of the extra work involved removing the brick. This wouldn't include the cost for the repair work to get the structure back in its original state.
