Honey Bee Swarm On Dude's Vehicle June 2, 2010
This monster swarm was on this guy's vehicle in the parking lot where he worked in Belle Chasse, Louisiana.
The gentleman was ready to leave for the day when lo & behold this big bee swarm decided to land on his front bumper.
JPthebeeman was able to successfully & humanely remove the honey bee swarm so the man could go home for the day.
Once JP caught & caged the queen & transferred her into the domestic hive box (beekeeper's box) the rest of the bees eventually made it into the set up.
Thank you youtubers for all of your feedback! You never cease to amaze me with your support and hilarious remarks! I want to you to know that I appreciate each & every one of you!

The amount of people who have no idea about bees in this comment thread is quite surprising. First off, bees swarm when trying to relocate the queen to a new hive. It is important to contain and give the bees a hive so they don't build one in a place like a chimney. Even though they can look quite scary swarming like that, this is actually when bees are at their most gentle so I can understand why the man is wearing no gloves. Honestly, I have dealt with a bee swarm as well and it was a magical experience. Being able to hold the bees and feel them on my hands was amazing and honestly the sounds and everything is just magical. Kudos to the man in the video for doing it the gentle way with your hands rather than using a bee vaccum. You can tell he is someone who cares for bees.

@@yowzaproductions only if they have a nest to defend. When honey bees swarm, they gorge themselves on honey before they make the flight from the nest. Because they are so full, they don't have much interest in stinging. Now, there is a catch here. If several days go by without them finding a new home to move to, and you try to approach them, they may become more aggressive due to their bellies not being as full. They will still protect the queen.

@julieenslow5915
@julieenslow5915 5 жыл бұрын
@@BrickHouseGaming The people calling for him to remove a colony or swarm (he does both) really could not care less about the queen. Mistakes can happen in this process - though JP is one of the best at it - so until he spots and puts her in the clip, there is no guarantee she will be found or even survive to get with him. Its normal for the bees to try to hide her from the invader (in this case, even though he has lots of black fur - he's not a bear). But a colony that has swarmed can not replace the queen if she is lost or somehow killed. Fortunately, a good beekeeper can still save them - by giving them a new queen or the means to make one of their own. None of which was necessary in this case - JP found her and put her in the hive, making that box their new home.

@mcmsmt If my memory serves me correctly this swarm was likely somewhere in the 4 and 1/2-5lb range or approximately 13,500-15,000 bees. A typical 3lb package of bees is around 9-10,000 bees and fits nicely in a one deep set up. On this catch this swarm was placed in a deep/medium set up. ...JP

Had a huge swarm on a tree in the back yard as a kid. I got VERY close to it and had zero issues. I scared the crap out of me, but I just walked away and went in the house and my mom called the local bee guy. He was very happy to come and collect them. It was very similar to what you did, just on a small tree instead. Neat as hell to watch as an 8 year old. Made me less afraid of them. I still never let my guard down with a yellow jacket though. They bite and sting, shitty trashcan bugs.

For those who are wondering how he is able to scoop the bees up with his bare hands honeybees are very docile and calm creatures you can literally find a wild hive and if you move slowly and keep calm you can get jars of wild honey the bees will climb all over you in the process but if you keep calm when you are done simply walk calmly and slowly away and they will fly back to their hive I know this from experience me and my dad will find hives to get honey from

The queen on this swarm had moved into the wheel well & I had to force her out with bee repellant. I was lucky enough to catch her on the hood of the car. You put all these guys with suits on from head to toe to shame. I would love to know how you avoided getting stung. You're amazing. We have been fighting swarms of wasps for quite some time. I'm always outside with sticks, I've emptied many cans of spray, I've poked holes in plastic bottles and stuck this thing I bot at the store inside the hole, filling the bottle with sugar water and I bought a power washer to use on them. I finally got rid of them here but I chased them up to my vacant rental and now I have to start all over again. I'm still dealing with the old nests trying to knock them down. Then you come alone and remove them with your hands and I just had to laugh. Sure wish you were my next door neighbor. lol. Good job. You're definitely the bomb!!

@WavyGravyTrain1 Swarms will usually rest on a tree branch, side of a house, umbrella, fire hydrant, etc... and cars! They usually rest for 1-2 days on average, then move on once scout bees have surveyed the area and found a suitable void space for the swarm to move into and make their home. Often enough they will actually build right where they've landed as well. They don't always move on. This is where a bee keeper comes in handy to capture and house the swarm for relocation. ...JP

It happens more often than you think, although they usually rest on something like a tree branch. This swarm of honey bees likely would have left on their own in another day or two but the man wanted to leave work and head home. Honey bees pick a spot to rest after they swarm. Scout bees survey the surrounding area for a new place to call home. Usually this is a dark void space such as a tree or man made structure with a small entrance. Normally within 3 days they move to the new spot. ...JP

Lemongrass oil smells very similar to orientating pheromone that bees expel through their nasonov glands located on the tip of their abdomen. LGO is a useful tool that many bee keepers utilize when the situation calls for it. A tiny bit goes a long, long way. ...JP

doubtforthedoomed, I always check a swarm for gentleness before I fool with them but I have heard of bee keepers housing africanized swarms who claimed they were gentle until the colony established itself. ...JP
