I’m super impressed they briefed his mum expecting the call. Seem such a simple thing but could easily be ignored and possibly miss the opportunity

I grew up near the village where the Somali pirates started. My people didn’t decide to become pirates for the fun of it. They’re fisherman who became pirates because they grew sick of westerns, Arabs, and Asians stealing fish and dumping toxic waste In the ocean which would kill off whatever fish they left behind. You have to understand during this time people were fishing to live another day. At first they would chase the ships until they left our shores but eventually warlord took things to another level.

Is anyone else shocked that the pirates actually got paid? 1.6 million! I guess even though the "US does not negotiate with terrorists" individual people can. Amazing that the family was able to pull that much cash together

Take note of the Chinese, (in China). "You take one of my citizens - we take two of yours" (The two Michael's - Canada).

Terrorism is not the same as kidnapping for ransom. Of course ransoms are often negotiated and paid in kidnappings

The two Seychellois fisherman he mentioned were safely rescued after 2years. Our president tried to negotiate prices as well but it took 2 years to do so. This interview was eye opening thank you.
