Not suprised he said that. Lennox was one of those boxers who always said he would never stick around too long. He's obviously had this topic on his mind for a long time and given it some deep thought. And he was one of the few who stayed true to his word and bowed out before it was too late. Good for him.

Lennox is a criminally underrated fighter... He only lost twice in his career and won both rematches convincingly. He also had a draw against Holyfield, but as the reigning champ he retained his title and then beat Holyfield down in the next fight. For such a tall guy he was quick as a fox and his jab was devastating. I think he holds his own with any heavyweight, ever. He had great physical tools and utilized them well. He dominated for more than a decade.

@Dave Z I think it's because of his mellow character and who he was predecessors of. The intensity and energy of tyson shocked the boxing world. Both his brutal knockouts in the ring and drama outside of the ring. Then "boring" Lennox Lewis comes around and people aren't as interested. It's an unfortunate reality of the herd like sheeple masses. But at the end of the day instant satisfaction, drama, and entertainment sells. Actually taking a step back and looking at the skills and mechanics of a successful athlete is "boring." Lennox had the talent and the skills but didn't have the bling. People who are fans of boxing appreciate Lennox Lewis. But fighters like Muhammad Ali or mike tyson drew in the broader band wagon fans for the drama and entertainment. And that's not to take away from Muhammad Ali or tyson neither. Point is Muhammad Ali and mike tyson had both the boxing fans and the drama and entertainment band wagon fans where Lennox Lewis only had the boxing fans.

when you do time you are basically forced to sort out your life in your head. the day you walk out you know exactly whats bringing your grief in life, where you are wasting the most of your effort as well as knowing exactly what makes you happy and making a b-line for it the second you get out. tyson im sure realized that he didnt actually like being known for fighting and of course was able to see how much physical damage it was doing to him... couple with the knowledge that its the only thing you can do to make big $$$. its too bad people cant voluntary go to prison for a stint, most people would benefit from being forced to sort their lives out.

He beat was was left of Mike Tyson. And if you watch the fight. Lenox's corner, had to beg him to throw a punch against Mike. And Lews is 6ft 5 amd over 250lbs. I love Lewis. Only lost twice and avenged those losses in the rematch. Plus, he punched as hard as Tyson. 6’5” and fought at 240-250.

i don't recall Lewis hitting like Mike, sure he was a great fighter but he didn't tear through fighters as easily. I think only Foreman etc had that kinda power

@@TheHungryTrollRawr Lewis boxed more to set up the KO. Watch the fight of Lewis-Ruddock. Then watch the two fights of Tyson-Ruddock. That’s one example of seeing the difference.

@@harveypratt995 yes i see what you're saying, but Tyson didn't need to, thus his power was superior as he could tear through defences due to that huge power. Boxers getting hit by Tyson crumbled, often stunned by the impact and despite knowing he was a huge hitter, they still didn't expect such a force.

@@TheHungryTrollRawr Lewis boxed first. He didn’t count on the KO. Go look at the Ruddock fights and see who hit harder.

Regardless of age, Lewis was at the top of his game, and Tyson was already finished. Just a shade of himself. A prime Mike 86’ - 89’ would have dismantled Lennox.

Shredded Hippo then you know nothing about boxing, or you’re from the UK and your blindly defending Lewis. Everyone knows he wouldn’t have touched that Mike with the blinding speed and footwork. Lewis fought a fat, slow, stationary Mike. He never beat the true Mike Tyson. Even he acknowledges that.

I felt that Tyson style could only last for a few years, the amount of training and to be able to move bob weave launch himself with speed and agility way crazy, as he got older and the love for the sport slowly died off that part of his arsenal diminished,

As all of those old bums that he knocked out in the 80s began to fade, and a new crop of heavyweights emerged in the 90s, Mike Tyson was simply outclassed. He lost every major fight he ever had! Beating the likes of Tony Tubbs, Trevor Berbick, James Smith, and Michael Spinks ... those weren't great victories. Impressive, yes! But far from great! 🤷‍♂

Lewis is such a chilled chap, very different to Tyson. I knew when watching the match it wasn't a fair match and would likely go to Lewis but back then I didn't mind. Having since found out a lot more about Tyson, it is both a shame what he went through, but I wonder if Lewis beating Tyson helped towards Tyson sorting himself out more.

Lennox Lewis grew up not far from me in the UK-Kent in Bexleyheath. Then moved to Canada with his mum when he was 14 then moved back to the UK when he was 21! Went past his old house the other day, while on my way to a work meeting! So many other famous people came from/lived in Kent like Kate Bush, Roger Moore, Michael Crawford, Roald Dahl , Mick Jagger/Keith Richards, Len Goodman, Mike Stock from PWL etc....

Being a kid growing up watching "IRON MIKE TYSON" fight was so inspiring to me. He was my idol, someone who i looked up to and wanted to be. Have the respect of people but also have them fear me at the same time. Such a great fighter in his day and prime, and not taking anything away from LENNOX either as same he is a brilliant fighter aswell but like he said ( and respect for addmitting ) he never faught Tyson in his PRIME. He was a shell of his former self by the time Lennox come to fight him. But RESPECT TO THEM BOTH
