I remember the scene where Moe tells Homer at an modern art show put on by Homer, that he’ll give him $10 for a bird trapped in one of the modern art pieces of it’s still alive. Then it cuts to the bird who’s no longer crowing. I wondered if the bird heard Moe and decided to shut up to avoid being bought by Moe or if it actually died. Such was the layered Brilliance of Simpson’s comedy at the time and the depth of each character. You just knew Moe was hated. 😂

Anthony could go toe to toe with any comedian that was in that studio. Great comics have been quoted as saying he had one of the quickest minds in comedy. I remember a moment when they were talking about how there's all these new diseases today and how its all bullshit, and Jimmy says " When I was a kid I had AHBD" Anthony asks "whats that?" Then Jimmy, trying to think quick, stumbles out "uh Adorable Huggable Boy Disorder" and without missing a beat as Jimmy was finishing the word "Disorder" Anthony says "Well I'm glad to see you've been cured". Jimmy couldn't get over how quick that came out but the crazy part is that Anthony had moments like that CONSTANTLY.

After Patrice passed away, it seemed the show died with him; just very slowly & more painful. Anthony, Patrice, and Yimmy has some of the greatest dialogue I’ve ever heard on a radio/podcast.
@citypopFM
@citypopFM 4 жыл бұрын
I also think if Patrice was alive we'd have an alternate timeline where he'd mediate the problems between the guys and the show would've carried on. Everyone respected and listened to Patrice because he was brilliant, brutally honest, unafraid to say what he felt, and was always right. Opie and him were really tight and as much as an insecure douche Opie is, he would've listened to Patrice. Ant's firing situation is one factor but after Patrice passed, that enormous force he carried to make the show died with him. There was no one else who might have saved the show but him and keep the guys together.

Opie was afraid of black people so he kept his hole behavior to a minimum around Patrice. Without the occasional brush back by Patrices verbal pimp hand the Nopester went full cunt and made everyone else uncomfortable to the point that two radio shows broke up, O&A and Opie and Jimmy were both scuttled by opies inner hole persona. As long as Patrice was alive opie towed the line fearing on air abuse from the one person for some reason Opie would take it from.

@@From-North-Jersey You're wrong about so much in one paragraph it's hard to believe you're not doing it on purpose. Rather than rebut it point by point I'll just remind you Opie is the one who selected the guests and he could have stopped Patrice from being on the air any time he wanted. So that fucks your premise in the ass.

Anthony really did have that background as a tradesman, he knew what a hard days work was like and a failed marriage too. Greg used to always say "he's been doing radio since he was 18" which made him uniquely qualified to have little to no idea of what life is like outside of million dollar contracts, the saddest part is if Opie was the one who left, the Jim and Anthony show would've probably been a hit 🤔

I've gone to compilations of Ant making Jim laugh, just to hear it for a few minutes, not even the whole thing. It's just nice to hear someone funny making someone laugh, someone who appreciates the funny. Two funny guys, making each other laugh. In terms of core dynamic, with no Patrice or Louis or Burr or anyone else in studio, it was the chemistry between Ant and Jim that that made it worth listening to, albeit in the knowledge that you'd have to suffer Opie's permanenstruation. Opie ended up paneling that show, but beyond that, he started to sabotage the funny by going to calls, or texts. Cutting the legs out from under them, _and_ people like Patrice and Louis.

This was really eye-opening. I always thought Anthony was the funnier guy on the show, and of course love Jim Norton. I wasn’t a regular listener to O & A, although I was for a while, and I was listening in my car when the whole St. Patrick’s Cathedral thing happened. I remember thinking that might get them in trouble. I didn’t know how bad the fallout was going to be. I genuinely think if Anthony wanted to do stand-up, and put an hour together he would sell out theaters. I have heard similar sentiments from some very successful comedians. Anyway, thanks for sharing.

He speaks about Opie "throwing him under the bus" for being late as if it's no big deal to be late to work. We'll that kind of attitude gets pretty old. Especially when, by his own admission that it was on a regular basis. It's not as if they were working some office job. They are going on the air at a set time. How does he not think about his partner and the anxiety the guy has to go through wondering if this is the day that he has to carry the show all the while pretending that Anthony isn't late. What about the fact that if Opie did the same thing, the execs would find out about that pretty much immediately. The guy that's always late doesn't seem to appreciate the person who is not and has to always carries that burden. So the guy lets you know on air that its getting old, that doesn't clue you in that you need to fix it somehow? Instead you take that as some dick move on his part? Most people deal with traffic on their commute, normal grown ups understand that that means you are gonna be early to work most days so that you would be prepared for the worst. I'm not taking sides, nor do I feel compelled to, but that example there was trash. I fucking hate coworkers that rely on you to cover for them constantly, especially in the case of Anthony, who seems to be oblivious to it and not appreciate it at all. How many years did he have to put up with it until he finally did something about it?

If Opie sucked why can't Jimmy or Anthony do shit without him? Jim and Sam is boring and frankly pretty lazy. They are just going through the motions. Anthony can't put a good show together either. Remember when you dummies were all excited about Anthony and Artie? That show was just awful. Opie's show at SirusXM was the best of the post O&A shows. Out of the three he's the only one who knows how to do radio. And he had a very successful radio career before he ever met Anthony. For that, I don't need process of elimination guesswork, I've listened to the old O&A shows, his Sirius stuff and his Westwood one podcast. He's abysmal. I agree with you that Norton and Cumia are in decline. But I’m impressed that a couple of aging drunks and perverts with more than enough money can do anything at all.

@@exapplerrelppaxe7952 You're free to set aside things like logic and real world results and state your opinion as if it has some sort of validity outside of your own skull. The truth is the old O&A show was arguably the best of that genre of radio ever. Opie was the architect/creator of the show, the show runner and the lead voice. He's the one who decided it would be edgy and cringey but lighthearted. He hired the cast and crew. He wrote ALL the bits, made ALL the plans, made ALL the decisions. Anthonys only job was to show up and try to think of something funny to say. And the show was wildly successful. So when you say "He's abysmal" you just sound stupid.
