you have amazing skilz ! im 63 and i feel blessed that i can use a level and a square. i know a few guys that are great fabricators by natural ability. I'm not one of them. my mind locks up as soon as 8 need to do some compound task. but I'm a pretty darn good mechanic.

I still love the 65 to 69 Corvair body style. I drove a 65 in high school and for a few months after till a woman in a Buick wagon pulled out in front of me in the rain. I bought another about a year later but it was a pos and I was just tired of oil spots in the driveway. 45 years later every time I see one I start thinking about what modern engine would I want to swap in, so love seeing what you are doing though for me I’d omit the turbo.

Love the sleepy bug I'm 66 my first car was a 50 bucks 1959 bug not split window but small back window we put a 1983 super bug motor shaved 5 lb off fly wheel to spin sooner and used two Ford 2 barol carbs it was fun I was age 13 when I started wrenching

John, you can use Boelube paste (in a tub) on your lathe partoff tool at a slow rpm to cut any aerospace material such as ti inconel a286 17-4 15-5 304L etc. works great on manual mill applications and tapping.

They MUST have made those trick turbo hose clamps for an early 2000s 6.0 Powerstroke engine in an E-Series Ford box truck/van. The one that ducks back down in that little hell hole towards the transmission tunnel and the firewall. Those things have made me say more cuss words in my life than anything else ever has.

Another great vid! Interesting to see that Vibrants version of a Wiggins clamp has not gotten any easier to install. I briefly worked for Elecramotive on the Nissan GTP program and we used Wiggins clamps everywhere. To install the intake plenum you had to line up 6 at once! But we never ever had a problem with hose connections blowing apart under boost.

Looks like you'll need some kind of heat shield under that throttle body. Love the show. Years ago I put a corvair engine in a 18 ft aluminum boat with a jet drive it was perfect for shallow back channels. Keep up the great work, just a little off just like I like it.

Very nicely done! I've always thought a transverse mounted V8 would be the best type of set-up for a Corvair, because it actually leaves just a bit of space behind the front seats where I can put my wheelchair. I wouldn't bother w/all of the turbo complexity, but its not my car. I drive a '65 convertible w/ a healthy, hand-built 140 tied to a PG, but would secretly love to go mid-mount V8, as it transforms the humble Corvair into a real track monster.

Hey John, I'm also putting an LS4 into the back of a 65' Corvair, but it won't involve the turbo. I'm deleting the DoD setup and will use an LS6 cam. I'm going with the stock transmission, sub frame and suspension. The muffler & tailpipe will exit below the frame and through the rear facia panel as yours does. I'll be integrating a diffuser, along with a front air dam & mini splitter to get a little more down force so road courses are more doable. Can't imagine the 700+ hp you'll have, but the roughly 400hp I'll have should be more than enough for track days........ I know of a few others that are embarking on this journey, but generally this is a small club !!!

700 HP and 2400 lbs. Remember you can't steer with the front wheels unless they touch the ground. Oh if it steers like a pancake engine Corvair. The gas pedal / brake pedal also does the steering when they do touch the ground.

you can ditch the dipstick/hole and make new ones in the side cover. you should go ahead and pull the side cover to replace the pressure pump filter. i have a good high quality sightglass for the level checking for our rear 4t80e. the side cover has plenty of area's you can weld on a fill port. love the project man, the 4t80e is quite the trans especially with some internal hydraulic work to delete the vast array of "caddy" NVH negation features

My expression would be a bit different regarding the opposition, proof to Ralph Nader and his Falsehood, in place of 'Nightmare'. 🤔 🤨 The testament of continuation with owners, modifications, Corvair Club is a clear, obvious, certain opposition to the Ralph Nader falsehood, portrayals, narratives of the Corvair and his others mostly among 'environmental/ist' issues are equally false and proven, though sadly governments have adopted most; Globalist/Elite Agenda basis; perhaps to nearly certain this included GM, Ford, Chrysler and all automakers worldwide including and especially the newer EV manufactures of Tesla, Lucid, Rimac, etc., along with every existing manufacture's development of their hybrid and EV too. He also targeted the Ford Pinto, with claims about 'exploding fuel tanks' during rear end collisions. In fact, the Pinto had the same design and implementation with all of Ford's compact and midsize vehicles, and again the claims were erroneous, false and improperly portrayed as those about the Corvair. Clearly his ambition, intentions, directions were to become a political activist [his book "Unsafe at Any Speed" was released 1965, post the corrections fo those claimed, though never that severe], and as seen with his seeking to enter political office as Governor in California and US President during the 2000 DNC primaries. If You have seen those that have continued with their Pinto and similar chassis vehicle along with those modified for drag racing, they also are testaments to the Ralph Nader falsehood, pretense, etc. and pursuits for notoriety, not actual truth, consumer protection, etc., rather further Authoritarian Government Regulations, which are basically within Socialist/ism; not for the actual betterment, improvement, progress of society as they claim. John stated Ralph's book title as a statement, and also said, thus he would correct it with speed. Though this model year did not have the claimed potential front end issues [correct by 1964/5] and without the air cooled engine exhaust manifold leak in the heater [which Ralph didn't focus upon or present], there are no issue. Also having a far improved suspension, brake system and other additions for racing too, this vehicle becomes among the safest on the road, which exceeds any government regulations, requirements and safety standards. [Some, if not all, which are valuable for every passenger vehicle on the road to be "Safe At Any Speed"]. 😒 So, perhaps, their may be a better or more accurate term or phrase which this Corvair among the many conveys, displays, portrays its opposition with Ralph Nader ?🤔 [who is apparently still alive; born Feb. 27,1934, now 88 y/o] This seems to be Ralph's greatest Opposition, Conclusive Contrary Evidence, and Proof against his falsehood, pretense, lies, false portrayals, narratives, etc. which in any legal proceedings, suit, filing, brief,court case or proper debate is conclusive against him.😒 My father purchased a 1965 Corvair Monza which he owned and drove for 10 years, 100k+ miles, which remember well, and enjoyed too. Clearly he did not accept the claims of Ralph Nader, though the issues with the front suspension and light front end weight were corrected by the 1965 year model. 🤓 Their rear engine, light weight. low chassis height, platform with its air cooled six cylinder engine, is certainly unique. VW/Porsche used their similar version in their sport/roadster vehicles and still do. From the many experimental vehicles designed , built, tested using this platform, it seem clear that GM had extensive plans for potential use, then 'seemingly' almost abruptly, reversing and cancelling all plans and use by 1967, decided to reduce then end production with the 1969 model year. They did something similar with the Pontiac Fiero [which also has many innovations] within a much shorter period of time; introduced 1984, 1987 decision, ended 1988, though some experimental versions were produced for up to 1991 model years. Actually wanted to keep that vehicle and get involved with improvements, etc. at that time, since i was 16 y/o and with some good basics, information, knowledge and some experience with mechanical, mechanics, electrical along with repairs, etc., some which my father first introduced and taught me some years before. I'm impressed, since I owned several Corvairs. A 1962, 1969, including a 1963 Corvair Spyder with turbo. I'm curious if one can get auto insurance for a modified, custom manufactured, Corvair with a high output horsepower V8 engine ( for a reasonable price) since many of these older vehicles are considered classics ??? Many auto insurance companies no longer insure classic cars as the repair costs after an accident are astronomical.

since the turbo and intake are engine mounted I would have tried to mount the inter-cooler to the engine with the flex in the cool water hoses. ps the trans dip stick may be much harder with the cool water connection in place
