It's certainly worth that price. Although I played this game a good while ago, the announcement of Blue Reflection: Second Light got a big YES! from me, and I think I going to replay the game in a while. If Hinako will play a role in the new game is questionable however. If the game wants to be close to the anime (we are halfway at this moment), then only the twins make an re-appearance. The cast in the anime are all girls that where not in original Blue Reflection game, so yeah.. Nevertheless, in my humble opinion the first Blue Reflection game is worth playing, even if it has some minor quirks.
@ebonymcpherson48724 жыл бұрын
I have legitimately always wanted a magical girl-styled rpg game, and it’s not surprising that it came from the same creators as the Atelier series (of which I am major fan). I think magical series are acutely attuned to that social-sim game style like you see in Persona and I’m actually kinda surprised it hasn’t been done before. I think if Gust took a second shot at this genre they could do a massively better job than what we received with Blue Reflection (and I really hope they try to make another magical girl game or maybe inspired another company to make one!) Don’t get me wrong I do like Blue Reflection a lot, but I’m sure I’m not just speaking for myself when I say I could imagine so many more additions that could have been added to the game. Thinking back on shows like Sailor Moon, Pretty Cure, and even Princess Tutu I think adding a few more explorable areas like an arcade, a cáfe/coffee shop, and a mall would add so much more to the world. Those areas would be great for more mini games and helping with the social aspects of the game. Also typical of magical girl series, I sort of missed the silly and fun activities you would see the characters do that would get you to love them so much. And maybe even add a bit of romance to the story so you really get some of the core ideas of a magical girl series. I think (so far, since I haven’t finished the game) that my biggest issue is the lack of a major bad guy. I do like the idea of an enemy that targets the emotions of people, but from what I can tell there isn’t any major reason for their actions other than the fact that they are monsters. Of course that isn’t the worst thing ever, but it just feels a bit lacking in terms of plot to me considering the other games Gust has made.

I want to thank you for doing what you do and posting this review. It's certainly a flawed game, but in a year that's been most difficult of years, this 'heart' you speak of struck a chord with me, and I loved my 20 or so hours with the game. Keep up the awesome work!
@ciel19915 жыл бұрын
Despite this game coming out just slightly over two years ago, and having owned it since then, I only just beat it today. It was definitely a very flawed experience, and honestly, up until those last few hours I was still feeling like I was just playing to get it out of the backlog, but now that I've finished it I've got that sort of melancholic feeling that I get after finishing a game that's going to stick with me for a while. The ending scenes hit a bit harder than I expected they would. Now I honestly hope Gust goes back to this IP at some point, although with it closing in on 3 years since it's JP release, that doesn't seem too likely...

I only just finished the tutorial, and I am already getting afflicted with feels. It probably goes to show the impact as I wasn't shaken by Madoka when I first saw it(mostly due to 40k) and that I have played the illustrious XCOM: Enemy Unknown, and the good HBS BattleTech. All of the listed works supposedly have superior stories and/or gameplay, yet Blue Reflection still has significant impact.
@jclosed25165 жыл бұрын
I really did not knew what to expect when I started this game. I played a reasonable amount of JRPG's and love the genre (Especially the Falcom games like the "Trails" series, Tokyo Xanadu eX+ and the later Ys series, where YS VIII - Lacrimosa of Dana is my favorite of the whole Ys series). So, playing a game with magical girls looked at first a bit less serous than my previous JRPG experiences. However, after playing Blue Reflection for a while I really fell in love with the game. It's maybe not perfect, but I really had a lot of fun with it (and had a real sad feeling when the game ended). I am glad I played the game, and - Like a lot of other people here - would LOVE to see a sequel to this game. I would love to see certain characters (I won't spoil the story, but you know who I talking about if you ended the game) get another chance in live. As with all things where magic is involved, I think that could be done in that possible sequel. So - I keep my fingers crossed in hope there will be really an Blue Reflection 2.
@thoughtprism29633 жыл бұрын
I'm basically at the very end of the sequel now, and was curious about what the less-refined original was like. It's neat to see Yuzu and Lime powered up, but I'm glad I never played this one, if only because I had zero clue Hinato was the protagonist. Laughed like crazy when she got her memories back and said she'd basically lived through the plot of Evangelion having killed god.

I thought that this game would be a perfect guilty pleasure, as well as an intro to the magical girl genre (normally go for sci fi, mecha, cosmic horror anime). However a quick search revealed that BR will not be realeased on Australia (on Ps4). Probably because of the questionable camera angles? We have a rediculously archaic classification board here in Aus.

Ah yes, I spent the first three days of its release refreshing the AU PSN just to find that out actually (got mine through the US PSN in the end) >< I honestly don’t understand the rating, there are a few bath scenes and the skirt angles but they never “go too far” or anything. So I finally got around to playing this game, and I ended up enjoying it a lot! (I basically spent my winter break playing this game.) I've always been a huge fan of magical girls. However, I've been hesitant to play this game, because I've seen a lot of mixed reviews. Some of the most frequent criticisms include bugs, fanservice, and the easy difficulty. And yet, when I played it myself, I didn't have a problem with any of that. Instead, what I got was a fun and comfy slice-of-life story, with a beautiful emotional ending. The art is beautiful, the music is fantastic, and the characters are, for the most part, likable. And the story is one I could really relate to. I regret not trying this game out sooner. :'D

I really wanted to love this game. The "Free periods" though... They make up 70% of the game and literally nothing happens in them. It's just mindless empty sidequests. Outside of that I loved almost everything about the game even if nearly every area ended up with at least one thing I saw as a flaw. Amazing combat (Although far too easy) Fun story (With the worlds worst and most forced in plot twist) Great Visuals (In most areas) Amazing music (Even if occasionally some of the instruments sound beyond fake) etc etc. The one thing in the game I truly think was perfect was the boss battles. Those were insane both in visual design and strategy. At the end of the day because of the insane amount of repetitive and boring sidequest stuff in the free periods I only ended up just kind of liking it. If they make a sequel and fix the pace and depth of the content (And maybe translate better) I think they can make something incredible, this one was just a couple fatal flaws from hitting it for me, still great to see others talking about it!
@JRPGJungle7 жыл бұрын
The boss battles were my absolute favourite part of using that battle system! It definitely needed a bit more challenge, whether it was more bosses or just an increase in overall difficulty I appreciate your honest thoughts! I really liked it, but it could fix a lot of things. I have hope for a sequel that is both more of the good stuff and fixes a majority of the imperfections :)

So it's Persona, because let's face it, 90% of free time in persona 3-5 is just my mindless and boring.
@typehere66895 жыл бұрын
The combat is mediocre to decent in my opinion. The only "good" bits of it were the initiative slider and the suppression mechanics. Note the quotations. They feel somewhat plain, but are amusing to play around with. I'd imagine they'd be a blast to exploit if they are found in a turn-based tactics game. Something similar is already in HBS BattleTech. A set of "initiative steps" that make up a period of combat and determine action taking order. They are typically only increased or decreased via skill training or pilot injuries.

Nichy Tsukamoto It is much more interesting although it has many flaws when you get out of the fun combat system. I still prefer it to Omega Quintet which was just ridiculous at times. It is much prettier too, it really looks like a ps4 game for good reason when Omega looked like a ps3 could have done the same thing with the graphics. Be aware though of a few things not mentioned in this vid, there's no game over when you lose a fight, every time you win a combat, your Hp and Mp gets full again, on the hardest difficulty mode only the first fights against rare opponents can be a little harsh if you don't properly make use of your abilities to slow the enemies turns so that you can attack more times than them in a row. And one last thing, you can't control the camera to look under someone's skirt (unless you're on PC using a special mod, they even made a nude one which is really good even though the characters are back with their clothes on during the cinematics).

Hm yes, doesn't really look appealing to me. No EXP for battles? Same mistake as in Paper Mario Sticker Star. The socializing aspect sounds fun and makes the game more diverse along with all of the other stuff there is, but making combat more and more obsolete is something I don't like. The visuals are stunning and I like the bright colors, but the characters... I can understand why people would like this game, but I just can't get excited about a game with an (for me) unrewarding battle system ALTHOUGH the battle system looks nice and thought out.

To me, the game doesn't look as great as she says it is...

Good thing I got it at a steep discount.

I woulda probably enjoyed the story more if it was an actual show, and not a game.

Ungh, I hated this bonding crap in Persona, this looks like it has a decent combat system but do I want to put up with all this story crap??? JRPGs really need to focus on battle to bring more people into this genre.

Are there any dudes in this game? Or have they already become extinct in this world? If I were a snowflake, I'd feel a little discriminated against.

Not in this game, but I don’t think they’re extinct in this world as the smartphone game (JP only so far) protagonist is a male :3

Terrible game, if you want a fanservice jrpg, just go play a neptunia game which has much better battle and story

Very repetitive script, kind of annoying. (Not hating, just criticising)
