So looking forward to this one, when I finally get through the original, of course. I'm glad to hear that Koei Tecmo is finally giving their localization teams the time and budget to give Gust's games the polish they deserve. Also, can we all just take a moment to admire how visually gorgeous this game is? Like, wow 😲

I finished this game recently and OMG I loved it so much! This was such a big improvement over the 1st game that it's pretty crazy the difference in quality. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed my time with the 1st one but this one was leagues above it. And Ao was such a great protagonist. My favorite character don't tend to be the MCs but here, Ao was such a great character with an emotional journey that many people can relate to. I loved the entire cast honestly, but Ao was so fantastic that she ended up being my favorite character overall. Also while not completely related to my thoughts, Ao and the last girl, who I won't spoil her name, are my OTP xD They are so perfect together!

I've had the first for years, and play it every now and then. It's sooo good but I just haven't been able to push myself to finish. Almost like I dont want it to end lol, but now I gotta get it done! Edit 3/13/24: I did finish the first about a year ago, wow it tore me up emotionally- I am now taking my time with Second Light as well and it definitely fills the Blue Reflection sized hole in my heart. A fantastic sequel!

I haven't finished Blue Reflection: Second Light yet, but I've been streaming it and I've loved it! It's so adorable and cute, and just fun most of the time! I think I just recently hit Chapter 6... It makes me want to go back and play the 1st one again, though I'd likely be slightly disappointed doing so.

I’m probably in the minority but I’d love to see these type of games get to the 30-40 hour range max. I feel they all tend to drag on longer than is necessary and I never want to play them more than once. Crystar, DSV, Death end request & the first blue reflection could’ve all benefited from a quicker pace but maybe it’s just because I’m getting older. Nice review though.

Yeah, I really liked this game. It was really good. Although personally, I prefer the combat system of the original more than the sequel. Although it was okay and I thought the Yuri romance stuff that was in the sequel was much better than in the first game and the first game. It's obviously just bait for the most part but in the sequel it's more obvious

I am most of the way through this. I am really enjoying it and I find it quite a lot different to the first game. I am glad both this and the anime came along to flesh out the world. There are some quite interesting twists, especially regarding Uta. Thanks for another great review! I wonder if you like this more than Caligula Effect 2?
@JRPGJungle
@JRPGJungle 2 жыл бұрын
Good question! I probably do like it a bit more, not to say I didn't love Caligula 2! I think the overall quality of the visuals and stuff does help Second Light; the beautiful visuals and sheer amount of dialogue and voice acting with the main cast is really nice :) but my favourite soundtrack is Caligula 2, so it's still a special game for me that will stay in my life :3 they're both great in their own ways ^__^

Currently finishing Atelier Ryza 2, planning to start this series next. I like magical girls and modern settings, so it seems like a great fit. 😀 2 Questions though: -Should I watch the anime before or after the second game? -Is the bonding purely friendship or are there some yuri elements as well? I'd love to see some scenes with romantic undertones (or overtones) 😉
@JRPGJungle
@JRPGJungle 2 жыл бұрын
Ah, must be so nice going from Ryza 2 to Second Light, great games ^__^ The anime is technically set before, but the story is told from the perspective of Ao who doesn't know those events so anything important gets explained. So it's not necessarily a need, it just depends how much you want to know :3 I have a video going into more detail here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/anfJd56Hl9eNqdE I personally think the game is designed so you can jump in without, it just depends how much you want to know while playing :3 As for the bonding stuff, I was quite surprised that there were some really beautiful romantic (or hinted at being romantic) scenes with some characters and even the story features some of these elements in a really beautiful way. I'm not sure how many character's events have this kind of thing, but I personally saw a mix of cute friendship with a little romantic stuff too, so if you're looking for that, it is there haha :) hope that answers your questions and hope you enjoy the game ^__^

Lovely Review, couldn't said it better myself^.^ Second Light quickly became one of Gusts best slice of life game for me. The character interactions were a joy to read. Do you have a specific character moment or story event which stayed in your mind?
@JRPGJungle
@JRPGJungle 2 жыл бұрын
A lot of the later story events with Uta were really surprising, she actually probably became one of my favourites in the game, some of her cooking events were really amusing. I also hung out with Yuki a lot towards the beginning, and I liked every event I had a with Kirara as well, they were both really fun. I still have a bunch more events to see though, so maybe that will change (I haven't hung out with Hiori nearly as much as I'd want to!) What were some of your favourite moments/characters? :)
@MrDimrey
@MrDimrey 2 жыл бұрын
@@JRPGJungle Sounds like you had an enjoyable journey:) Uta was great😄 she sure developed a lot throughout the game. A funny example would be a scene where she was very proud and happy for cleaning the chalk board in class and waiting for someone to recognize the effort. The most surprising character for me was Hiori. After Ao needed someone to talk after being down and desperate, Hiori worked through the problem in a really genuine, kind and self reflecting way. But every character is kinda special in its own way:D Have a wonderful start of the week and take care:)

Excellent review! According to it, you put in around 50 hours to complete the game. I have nearly 80 hours and I'm in Ch 10. Did you skip some side content, both so you could publish this review and / or clock in (just) 50ish hours? I'm trying to be a completionist for a first playthrough, which is increasing my playtime. At any rate, thanks for your dedicated effort!
@JRPGJungle
@JRPGJungle 2 жыл бұрын
I didn’t necessarily skip anything to hit around 50 hours, but I didn’t do ALL the side content (which I’m almost glad about because I have a lot to look forward to for new game plus) but rather did side content more when I felt like it or when it came up and I felt it looked interesting. Also if I went back to school to restock on items, I’d see a date or two, do a quest, craft a little etc before getting back to the dungeon, especially for the fragment and talent benefits so I played a fair share, but not all. :3 I am also the kind of person to keep completionist stuff for a second playthrough too so yeah :3 I hope that answers your question! There’s a lot of content for completionist stuff, I’m already enjoying checking out more in NG+ ^__^
@JimHamiltonIII
@JimHamiltonIII 2 жыл бұрын
@@JRPGJungle Thanks for such a quick reply! Moreover, it perfectly illustrates how engaged you are with fans / subscribers. I'm at around 80 hours and I'm in Ch 10. I wouldn't call myself a "completionist," but I like each character for their own merits. I'd hate to miss out on some sidequest or task, if nothing else that I didn't get to enjoy interaction with each. One complaint (you didn't mention; don't know if you'd agree) is the game is too easy on Normal mode. Maybe I'm overleveled for whatever heartscape I'm visiting, but the devs must have anticipated many would complete the sidequests and build all the facilities. I'm at level 50 and the battles are quite easy--even bosses. I might try a harder difficulty for NG+. At any rate, I love all your reviews (perhaps we have similar tastes) and I've watched many several times. Great effort! Please keep it up!
@JRPGJungle
@JRPGJungle 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much ^__^ I hit level 50 in the final chapter myself, so I didn’t necessarily find it too easy, but I also didn’t get a game over (usually I’ll get at least one or two :3). I didn’t overly mind at the ether point system was so interesting, so that’s why I didn’t mention it :33 Trying the hard difficulty on NG+ has definitely felt harder though (been switching between the hardest two and going back to do stuff at the school in between which has been great!) it’s a really fun game and the girls are great, I hope to keep spending time with it :D hope you enjoy the rest of the game, would love to hear your hour count when you’re done! ^__^ thank you again for your kind words! I’ll do my best going forward :D

@@JRPGJungle I finally finished the game at 95 hours. Overall impressions: far too easy; delightful (if a little incomprehensible) story; interesting interactions between characters (Rena and Yuki being by far my favorites); playing the previous game / watching the anime somewhat advised (understanding Uta, for instance); graphical glitches (PC; broken light rays; stepping (not smooth) shadows); requires NG+ to play on harder difficulty; all achievements not possible on one run (on PC; getting all characters to TL10); missable exploration areas without guide. Score: 9.3/10. Very close to yours. I know it's a little far out, but I greatly look forward to your Sophie 2 review. I know I'm looking forward to playing it! Things needed?. Hmm, in most of cases yes, but the turn based was totally changed is not what I was waiting for. I wouldn't say as good as Ryza 3 as Gust tend to improve game by game so Ryza 3 being their newest release is naturally better :3 there are similarities though! Synthesizing is actually apart of the building process in this which is very familiar if you like Atelier (it's much more simplified) and the everyday feeling of story events in-between the main story I think is pretty similar too :3 hope that answers your question!

I really loved the first Blue Reflection but the second game just isn't doing it for me. Game is padded out with 1k dates! Then every time you go to a new dungeon to explore the hit you with random cut scenes that aren't needed. Also the boss fights have been pretty underwhelming. I'm about to start chapter 8 but I got a load of side quest to do before I move on to the next chapter.
