So basically, it's Yuri Automata on hard mode, lol. I'm one of those that beat Nier automata on hard so I probably have enough tolerance for this, but as always, I'd rather wait for a few months for the inevitable updates and discount after everyone review bomb it for being hard.

Yeah Yuri Automata with a mix of Soulslike difficulty. To be fair I do tolerate those stuff (Yuri and Yaoi genre) as long as the story and worldbuilding is interesting. I do interest with Crymachina bc of the story premise (AIs fighting it out in order to restore the human race. Though unlike Nier Automata, at least this one theres no aliens (Machines enemies in Automata made by aliens) in the game just human made AIs fighting amongst themselves with most of them disagreeing with Enoa's methods as the KZbinr said).

At least NIS America is giving Erick review codes. Always good if publishers don't just focus on the 'big' publications (who actually don't matter anymore) who pretty much hate Japanese games and culture, and instead give experienced KZbinrs early access.

@@kidrobot. Op said publications, not publishers and for the most part they are correct. Japanese games are often blasted by "games" journalists for not being diverse enough, for having female characters that they feel wear clothing that is too revealing, or even for having female characters that are actually feminine rather than adhering to the weird modern western trope of masculine, narcissistic, ugly women in games. They target any game that doesn't adhere to western progressivism, then tear the game to shreds for not sharing their insane worldview. I doubt they even believe their own arguments, as most articles and reviews from gaming publications are obviously designed to farm hate clicks. They haven't been relevant for a long time and I would be surprised if they survive another ten years.

The combat itself isn't bad, but everything around it sucks. The game is never balanced, past the first few stages. Around lvl 60 and up you either curve-stomp and take no meaningful dmg or you get one or two-shot while doing piss all damage. Doesn't help that stages are usually just a short corridor to the boss that might have some enemies or not in it.

My impression of the game is that it's very reminiscing Chinese hack-and-slash game. Menu design complement with 3D environment, short story stage, simple combat with level and upgrade mechanics, all-female casts trope. It's also have heavy sci-fi setting and gorgeous artwork and character designs, somethings most Chinese hack-and-slash have. Some of the effect works seem to reused from SAO Last Recollection, but the combat control and animation are much more dynamic than that game.

As long as your playing through every mission on normal difficulty and keeping up with your leveling, skill point allocation, ego point allocation and equipment and only playing missions where your at least the same level as the recommended level then you should have no issues as long as you have decent skill, video games are supposed to be challenging, this is a more gameplay focused title anyways, it definitely leans into it's gameplay and progression systems, which i love, the gameplay loop is addicting and fun

Going to pirate it since i hate Nisa(and they likely ruined translation here, too), shame i can't support devs this time because of publisher this time, loved the predecessor and already like what i see. 5:03 Oh, it's that feature from Monark, that game could literally be cheesed by farming code stages, but chapter lvl cap here will balance it out. Crystar was a bit too easy(even on hard, most of the time) so upping difficulty i don't mind. Oh, and thanks for the tip for true ending, that sounds way easier than having to beat second half of the game 4 times like in Crystar.

MONARK was developed by Lancarse Ltd. the same devs as SMT Strange Journey. While you might find some superficial similarities, but they are nothing alike. Besides in MONARK, you could input any number to anything to get a stage,while CRYMACHINA only has pre-set options per area, which you find code for as you progress through the game. It is not "random" like the game implies, that's just a bad TL by NISA.

Yes, much more grindy. The game constantly makes you change to a different girl per mission and you never really know which one its gonna require. So that means you will often find yourself going back and having to re grind over and over to get that girl up to the level requirement. They could have fixed this, but clearly its a padding mechanic for game time. It adds nothing of value. BUT if you can get over it, i think its great. At the start the game throws many mechanics at you for leveling up, and gear and due to it not being forgiving for mistakes made, yours gonna be lost as to what to level up
@TotallyCluelessGamer

From my perspective this game is basically what I was hoping Nier Automata would feel like when I picked that game up (Which Nier Automata decidedly wasn't in basically every way). As for difficulty, I'ma have to be real chief... maybe fast paced action games just aren't for you. I've encountered like one fight in the game that I haven't enjoyed and my only game overs(I don't play on Casual Mode so that's not even a factor) are trying to punch up in level too far, or when I haven't used a character in a while for plot reasons and all of their gear is multiple chapters out of date.

I have to wonder what went wrong, the director's previous works of Monark and Crystar had writing good enough to carry the weak gameplay they had (well, Monark's RPG system was actually okay for what it was, but it had so much grinding). Crymachina strikes me as a "high concept" story where it has a lot of cool stuff happening in the setting, the themes, the direction, etc. but the on-screen stuff doesn't explore it well. I actually thought for a moment the cast being so simple in the way they're written was intentional because the theme of becoming a real human and they'd get more fleshed out across the story but nah, they're just written like that.

The game also only resembled Nier Automata in the most surface level manner possible. They're both games starring mechanical humanoids set after the deaths of mankind and they're both fairly fast paced ARPGs. Too many comparisons to other games, not really taking the time to actually understand the game (the game tells you what the stats are when you level them up when using Ego on the menu itself), the romance thing adds to the theme of the game and Enoa’s growth throughout the story (she’s acting more human as the story progresses) there’s an in-game reason why the cast is primarily female so it shows a lack of paying attention to detail in the story, calling it a hack and slash when it’s really an action RPG, etc Couldn’t finish the review because of how sloppy it was

This is exactly the feeling im getting about yall when it comes to soulslikes, difficult combat, stamina and parrying does not make a soulslike, you need the mechanics from the genre as well, its like every third person action RPG with a stamina system is a soulslike to you ppl, these types of games existed long before soulslikes were ever a thing

@@ltb1345 to clear things up, the game is short if you just want to beat the story, but there's a lot of optional grinding you can do to unlock extra lore entries from bosses/minibosses, do all the password dungeons, etc. That said, take this review with an entire shaker of salt, the man is talking out of his ass about a type of game he isn't good at while making a bunch of surface level comparisons that don't hold up for 10 minutes once you have your hands on the game.

I would not listen to much to Ericks criticism of supposed "unbalanced difficulty" he usually absolutely hates Souls like games and really really sucks at them. It isn't to unlikely that he just really sucked at this game and that why he thought it is unbalanced Erick usually doesn't like difficult games in general

Hmm funny I've played the demo and thought the game was extremly easy, don't really see the comparaison with Souls game, can we stop dropping the Souls name whenever people find a game hard, even when there is little in common please, also don't really dig the Nier Automata comparaison, yeah it's a fast paced action game.... just like a LOT of game that came before even Nier, but controller in hand it really doesn't feel like Automata to me. Anyway, played the demo and honnestly, thought the gameplay was a bit easy and boring, can't really judge the story obviously, but the characters didn't make it for me, I found all 4 of them annoying, graphics and music are decent tough, but clearly the game is asking 60 bucks, and that demo already makes me feel this is overprice, if I don't forget about it and there's a good discount, maybe I'll considerer taking the full game, but for now I pass.

The Souls and Nier Automata comparisons in the video are pretty cringe inducing, since it makes it seem like the man knows basically nothing about any of the games in question. The only things it has in common with Souls are being an ARPG and that enemies can hit you pretty hard if your levels and gear aren't up to snuff. The only things it has in common with Nier Automata are that you play as mechanical humanoids after the death of the human race.

Why is that robot in a wheelchair?
@TotallyCluelessGamer
@TotallyCluelessGamer Жыл бұрын
To explain: The girls minds are stored as data and the completely human looking bodies they have when not in dungeons are visual recreations of how they looked when they were alive. Meanwhile when they're sent out into the game's dungeons their minds are effectively uploaded into mechanical bodies.

@@TotallyCluelessGamerto add to this as well, Ami has said that she technically CAN walk when she’s in the Imitation Garden, she just chooses to stay in the wheelchair because it’s what she was used to when she was alive.

"If it was a straight couple, I'd say the same thing." Yeah, that's an outright lie. In Trails in the Sky 1, nearly every girl they encountered from the start of the game was thirsting over Joshua. Even his own mentor was thirsting over her underage former student. If you replaced Joshua with a female character, that would’ve been one of your first complaints about the game.

This game sucked ass. The soundtrack is amazing (thank you Sakuzyo), but the story, the gameplay, the writing and the characters are....... really bad. It has some cool twists in the story, but it goes nowhere with the themes it presents us with except "Cherish the family we create around us". Also this review I couldn't disagree with how it slanders the OST. The only part that I found valuable was the music and this review basically just goes "eeeeh it's alright" when it's actually outstanding. Anyway some other thoughts: - The story has interesting themes that it never explores and the characters are paper-thin. We have the machine-loving girl, the movie-loving cool girl and the family-loving secretly scary girl. And of course Enoa, the AI/machine that I can't say more about. There are other characters, but none get more depth than these 4 and that's pretty sad considering they're all collectively a shallow puddle. - The dungeons do in-fact NOT get more interesting, it's the same affair all the time with the occasional platforming segment thrown in. - The combat literally just boils down to spam attack and occasionally counter/perfect dodge to force the bosses into a weak/down loop. This game is NOT a soulslike! I can't stress it more enough, it's a hack-and-slash similar to something like Drakengard 3. - The visuals are fine, but the cutscenes are basically just the character models standing or sitting around talking, besides like... 3-4 actual cinematics which actually had good effort put into them. - The character progression is a mess, as the majority of the stats aren't even explained in-game or anywhere else. Doesn't help that you have to resort to puuuure RNG to get new gear. Doesn't help that the game is a huge freaking grind, that the review said at least. This game has absolutely no balance. - You can actually respect Enoa's EGO upgrades, lvling them up and down. However you can't reset character scalability and stats, so be careful there. Game is still a grindfest even if you can respec slightly to dump them into exp gain up and equipment drop lvl up. Do yourself a favor and buy Crystar instead. Fantastic game, one of Furyu's best. Crymachina had a lot of potential, but the game is a plane crash. If you can stand the fire and suffocating smoke go right ahead and try it, it's a freaking pain. At least it made me want to replay Crystar.
