I actually think if they re-released this on console as a mainline entry with major changes such as the paid gacha and a stronger story this would appeal to much more of the fans. I would LOVE if they did that.
@JRPGJungle2 ай бұрын
I would too, the story is worth it! I really hope at end of service they at least archive in some way (Bang Dream has a Switch version that’s just basically an archive of chapter one but you can earn all the tickets and spend no extra money, it’s possible). I hope if they did they made the maps explorable, they’re pretty and have potential to be real maps :33

Sadly, due to a whole bunch of irl stuff going on, I don't have any money for new games at the moment, so I am super grateful for my backlog! For August, I spent a whole lot of time finally taking my first big step into the Trails series with Trails in the Sky and it has been a joy. Estelle is already one of my favorite RPG protags just off this one game! I've also been taking a similar approach to what you mentioned wanting to do, just weaving in and out of whatever I feel like playing at the time. I also spent a lot of time playing Visions of Mana's demo, and I'm excited to eventually play it when I have some gaming money. Like you said, it isn't going anywhere. As for September, I'm hoping I can finish Sky and also work on finally finished a few other games I'm 60-80% of the way through that have been on hold for a while

Do what I do. Pirate them. Then later, if it turns out you liked the game enough keep playing over a few days, add it to a txt file like "Games I need to buy later". Then, every month or so, do the devs a favor and buy one or two, depending on your budged and price of the game. That's how I got Cyberpunk, which is by now an actually working game, entertaining too. Buuuut that's a story for another time.

Had a vacation of sorts in August, so I didn't game as much. I dabbled a bit with SMT V, but I haven't given it my full attention. Probably played more Jeanne d'Arc and am making pretty good progress. Finished Destroy All Humans 2. That was the largest game I chipped down. Tried and finished some smaller projects (Koa, Rise Aeterna, Wall World) and a bunch of stuff that I'll knock out this month. I played Warframe for a full month or so - a free-to-play game. Probably 100 hours too. But once I hit 100 hours, I find my brain seeks out other games and I stop cold. I 've always wanted to try Honkai/Zenless Zone Zero, but I like to game around and not completely disappear in one thing. I loved Crystar but didn't grab Crymachina since they didn't dub it. (That's won't rule me out forever, but it's a low priority) But I really liked Crystar for the story so I'm curious about Kamitsubaki... I've been wanting to play Void Terrarium, but I want to play lots of stuff, so... Dunno what I'll focus on for September (JRPG-wise). I haven't hit that "Go mode" with Jeanne d'arc when I just can't stop playing it until its done. I've already knocked out a couple of cool games, and I'll be playing The Plucky Squire later this month.

Who knew that playing a predatory gacha game that preys on people's "fomo" and trains them to sign in every day for dailies, events, etc. would be bad for productivity.
@JRPGJungle2 ай бұрын
I mean for me it felt productive because I wanted to cover it well. Then I was…only playing it :| lol I’ll talk more about it soon now I have more time to make that updated Res video. I will say the experience has improved how I look at all the smartphone games I play (pretty much I’m all out of event FOMO lol) and I’m happy about that :3 but yeah, I get firsthand why people look at them that way more, as much as I still like the game. I’m sure I’ll like Yumia much more though, ready for console Atelier to be back :))

@@JRPGJungle Honestly, I get it. I used to obsess over Princess Connect Re-Dive, and I always went super sweaty try hard mode on it during the monthly pvp clan battles which was pretty bad for my mental health, but then Crunchyroll just pulled the plug on the English version of the game out of nowhere and I found myself with so much extra time. I realized then that maybe it was a good thing, haha.

I just beat Etrian Odyssey 3 HD, such as great yet REALLY LONG game, so I've been trying to take a short break from gaming... but I also want to beat Yakuza kiwami 1 before the live-action adaptation comes out, and there are so many indie games that I've been hyped for coming out soon. And let’s not forget how crazy these last four months will be with FANTASIAN Neo Dimension, Ys X Nordics, Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D, and Metaphor: ReFantazio all coming out. Despite the atelier serie being featured in essentially all your videos, I’ve never been that interested in giving them a try, but the new one looks really cool, and for some reason made me want to play some of the older ones, so far the ones that I added to my wishlist after some research were: Atelier Sophie, Atelier Ryza, Atelier Rorona, Atelier Totori, Atelier Ayesha, Atelier Escha & Logy, Atelier Firis. They all seem to be good entry points, but it's really hard to know which I could like the most, they looks kinda samey at first glance and I have 0 experience with games focused on crafting(thou I loved crafting in Dragon Quest 11). I know I could just start with Atelier Ryza, but I'm a little stubborn to start with the more mainstream one.

Awesome list ❤️ I added some stuff in my backlog after this. Also, the struggle with gacha games is so real. I used to play a lot of them, but they become so overwhelming with events, and expect you to put so many hours into it everyday to keep up. I was enjoying Ever Crisis but dropped for the same reason. And I wasn't strong enough to resist playing just for the story, haha. I hope you can have an enjoyable time playing through Resleriana's story content while also making progress on your backlog ❤️ Have a wonderful September! ❤️

As much as I want to say my August was fruitful since I did finish a couple games, I wasn't as active as I'd have liked. Mainly due to various life issues taking time and, well, causing me to become quite demotivated. A loss of a pet would understandably do that. Still though, I trucked on. Played some loose games like "Mon-Yu" and "Child of Light". But more importantly, I've started making progress in my "Atelier" endeavors. While a carryover from July, I did manage to finish "Rorona Plus". And just recently, I even finished "Ayesha". I finally managed to move past the "Arland" trilogy that I've been stuck in for nearly a decade. So with that, I'm 4/17 entries through the series. Well, more like 4/18 now thanks to "Yumia" getting announced. I don't think I'm going to be able to catch up to it before it releases but I'll get to eventually.

Since last time I started Valkyria Chronicles 4, but I haven’t really got that deep into it because of lack of time. What little I’ve played has been quite good, having the familiar gameplay from VC1 with some improvements and new types of units. So far the map design does feel better than the first game, but as I said I’ve barely scratched the surface of this game.

"I don't want Resliana eating into my Yumia time" is way healthier than my FGO breakup story lol. Like I was already lamenting how having an event every 2 weeks was making it hard to work on the pile of other games I wanna play but a bunch of emergency expenses hitting one after the other kinda forced my hand and I ended up basically dropping it altogether. I still have my bind code in case i wanna pick it back up but I'm kinda just hoping it gets adapted in a gacha-free form eventually, whether that's through games anime or whatever

As someone who really doesn't like live service or gacha games, and I'm not trying to be ugly in saying this, it has been kinda tough to watch Resleriana consume your time over the past year and continue to do so.

@@JRPGJungle Aww, I wouldn't necessarily say that. A nonzero number of people maybe. But hey with more regular reviews posted closer to the original release, the algo will probably do its work. If that's even what you want out of the channel anyway, which I suspect maybe only in part.

Definitely only in part (if at all lol) haha but I do take the moving number as a signal of if people are enjoying the content and I could see more positive results when something wasn’t Res-related, so yeah lol but most of what brought me to it was getting stuck in the game itself and then Yumia, so I’m glad the change could come organically anyway :)

In August, I tried playing Nikke again due to the Evangelion collab.... tried being the key word. I never really liked the combat. The story, in particular the humor, was a strong selling point but the combat... It lasted a couple of weeks before I dropped it. Though, I made some account progress, summoned Asuka, got the free Misato (who holds pen pen in this character model), and didn't have too bad a time. Anyhow, I continued playing Epic7 and I'm back on Sword of Convallaria (SoC). Though I plan to drop SoC when Reverse 1999 gets to 2.0 in a month or two. Then, I'll return to R1999 and continue Epic7. I did drop Epic7's guild system. It was a lot of mostly clicking menus and guidl pvp. That saves me more time to work on the story. The biggest problem with many gatcha games is dailies. They try to distract you with chores to do instead of rich story-centered combat and gameplay.
@wintersnowcloud2 ай бұрын
As a side note, I plan to play SoC during Epic7's summer events next year. I hate swimsuit characters and like to avoid fanservice whenever possible. It's too bad Brown Dust 2 went so heavy into lust it just looks disgusting to me. The main story of that game was very good with solid combat. I don't mean to offend any Brown Dust 2 fans out there but that kind of content just isn't something for me. I dropped that one a while back and won't be returning. I only mention it since SoC has similar pixel graphics but almost no fanservice at all. That's something I really appreciate.
@JRPGJungle2 ай бұрын
Yeah, I got my Res dailies down to about 20 minutes a day, but I wish you could just spend 50 stars or whatever and do them automatically; I have gotten to more events than I can count on the final day and had to rush them cause the only time I’d had went to Dailies lol when you like the gameplay and story but you’re barely touching it, that’s not great. So yeah, you’re very right. Thank you for sharing your experience! I still like certain games for events (Gakuen Idolmaster) so I get that (just trying not to let them ruin my life these days haha). Hope you manage everything well when the time comes :))

The only mobile game I've ever been addicted to was Dissidia Opera Omnia. At the time I quit, I had completely maxed out the Warrior of Light in every possible way (weapon abilities, stats, etc.) and was trying to get to that point with a few other characters so I could auto my way through some tougher event dailies. Shortly after, they added multiple stat enhancement systems that completely rendered all of my progress to that point obsolete and would require countless hours of additional farming. That was where I decided I had to quit cold turkey, as I had already been impulsively glued to the app when maxing out was actually manageable, but this was shifting into territory that would be to the detriment of other things I actually enjoyed. At a certain point, you just need to do it. You've gotten some positive memories out of Resleriana, but unless it truly brings you joy, trade the gacha back for many more hours of traditional gaming, and you'll be surprised what it does for your capacity to actually make time for the backlog.
@JRPGJungle2 ай бұрын
Amen, and I relate so much. When I was more into Bang Dream, I had all the Area items done for a good while so every event I could mostly auto make a party and be good to go. Since then, they’ve added individual character ranking with three different parameters and goes up to 100 (and now a 2.0 version of it, I haven’t looked cause I’m scared lol), increased the area rank cap and have an entire challenge mode that I think helped me slip from an active player to a passive one lol the unachievable-ness is pretty wild imo, I understand why they do it (I’m sure people would complain about a lack of content if they didn’t), but even with Res, I definitely felt like I enjoyed it more when there were three chapters at release and I could see an end to the content (I can confidently say if I tried to 100% Res, you may not hear from me again till end of service lol) Console games might release DLC, but there’s always an end and a solid cap to anything and is now one of my favourite features lol will definitely be enjoying that going forward! Thank you for sharing you experience, I hope you’re having lots of fun in console these days 💖
