It's a far cry from the guitar rig 6 pro I just bought! But I guess it shows they've been out there doing it for a long time. More computing power now makes for better effects and simulations. I love it but it's too heavy for my 2015 macbook pro to run... needs my 2021 Ryzen 5600x rig to run properly, on gen 4 ssds too!

Before LIFAD! I remember seeing it before it came out. They'll have used Guitar Rig for some parts, specific effects that sound good. You can do insane shit with it, and get weird sounds, I use it a hell of a lot when writing, distorting synths to the point where you barely recognise the raw sound. Not keen on it for high gain guitar, it's too hard to get a good sound out of, but if you really work you can get some decent tones. Hell, I've used it to learn guitar over the last 9 years, only bought a real amp 6 years ago. Also has it's uses for hugely complex rigs like playing anything by Muse. I've absolutely nailed Wolstenholme's tone for Uprising on bass, and it sounds SO much better than anything I can do with pedals, because I don't have 3 massive bass amps to use!

It's FUCKING hard to get Rammstein's tone in Guitar Rig, that's a huge part of it, they use SO many tricks and techniques besides exceedingly tight playing for double/triple + tracking. The amount of processing that goes onto the raw sound the mic captures is too much to really do, plus Jacob is the man who does that, Paul isn't a recording or mix engineer really. Compression, extra distortion, saturation, phase shifting between mics, and SHIT loads of extremely careful EQ are what you hear on a record. Plus, the lower octave is VERY quiet in the mix. Rammstein do a lot of that, tiny little tricks that build up the sound. In Eifersucht for example, Flake has programmed a percussive synth riff that exactly matches the palm muted parts of the guitars, making them sound different, but you have to listen out for it to notice it. Rammstein is sonically extremely clever, every instrument is just so, adding all the power needed to heavy songs, and whatever else. You can't often hear the bass being played, but it's perfectly sculpted to back the guitars up, and the song would fall apart without it.

@@Corvid actually lower octave isnt quiter but rather a studio record. so put rammfire in control room pro then use richard's settings and you're good to go.

So funny.... Guitar rig sounded shit as all the digital shit made 9 years ago for guitars and bass :) He says "definitely use guitar rig on new Rammstein album" yeah hahahah c'mon :))))

they used the first version of ampfarm on Offspring albums and basically nobody noticed. I'll bet they blended GR sounds with actual amp sounds.
