Installing Factory Style Roof Rails to my Jeep Renegade Sport (Ebay / Amazon)

Hi everyone, thanks for checking out the install of my new Roof Rails for my Jeep. I have upgraded bike racks, and no longer need the Thule roof rail system. Like many of you know, the Sport Model Jeep Renegades do not come with factory roof rails so I wanted to upgrade to the factory style rails.

SOB mine didn't come with any instructions, luckily I found this video. If you get this and it doesn't have instructions follow this video, it's very thorough. One thing I also noticed, the two front most bolts are shorter, so be aware and be very gentle with the plastic trim plugs at the top. I used a wood screwdriver handle to gently tap one side down and then gently tapped on the other side with the flat blade until the tab started into the opening then gently tapped with the handle until set. Be aware also the bag that holds the short bolts also hold the two plugs for the front most opening, they are different than the other plugs. Thanks

When I ordered my jeep, which is still on it's way, I asked the dealership about this and they printed out an exploded view of this installation for me. This also included the partsnumbers I need to order them, including the factory-made raingutters for the installation of the rails ...so you can actually keep the original ones without drilling holes etc. On their mechanic-system they can print out any exploded views of the car..truely everything you need . Just ask an official dealership, they should be able to support you on that ;-)

This was really helpful, I just put mine on, my bolts were too short so I did have to run to Theisens for some bolts 6mm coarse @ 45mm long was perfect.When putting them on I thought the rail was just a hair too short from the front to the back but found that you have to push in the middle to get things to snap into place. As for the rain gutter on the top, I just lined it up with the first part on the rail that touches the roof and cut there, same for the center and back and it was perfect. Took me about 4 hours total. Scraping/Cutting all the prior adhesive took the longest I think. I found though that if you use your thumb and peel it back a little and cut that small section under to peel it back further and repeat was faster than trying to use adhesive remover and a scraper. The plastic on those is so thin that when scraping it, I cut into one.

Did you ever find a solution to covering the bolt holes where the manufacturer clips broke?

Not yet. To be honest, I have been lazy, and the day I installed the bars I just put a small piece of electrical tape over the clips and it has worked perfectly. A janky solution so when it gets warm again I will work on a long-term replacement.

JeepRenegadeGuy it's on my wish list, but I want a cargo rack first. They look like they'd be great for keeping 1st aid/emergency kits secure and accessable. Especially if u put a full size spare in the trunk.

They are attached to the front/ back and very middle with double-sided tape. They do also have some plastic clips near where the roof rack bolts would go in that can be wiggled to let loose of the black molding.

did you use a flathead screwdriver to slowly unstick the plastic molding from the double sided foam tape? Other forums have reported to remove starting from the rear.

Likely Rockauto.com, you can usually find parts like that from salvage cars. Otherwise, I am not sure. Once you install the roof rails I can't imagine you would ever want to remove them.
