I’ve been a touchscreen user for several years using the iPad and phone for hours every day. I was reluctant to be using this knob control system but now I have my new CX-5 for just a couple of weeks I have no issues with it. Sure using it with Apple Music is a bit tricky remembering how to move in the app, whether to turn knob or move it forward or backward. It’s no big deal though and all doable.

Nice review. I am having an issue that maybe you can help with. I can't seem to get Pandora to connect via bluetooth to my Apple phone but it will work through the usb connection of car play. Am I frustrating myself trying? I don't have the Bose system so Sirius is not there, but is Pandora also a Mazda victim?

Does the joystick only work in CarPlay mode? I just got this car and thought going through the Home Screen I could use the thing like a joystick but I can only twist the knob to move through home menu items. Haven’t tried it with the CarPlay yet to see if it works on there, but not sure if there’s an issue with mine or if the joystick isn’t supposed to work with the Home Screen?

I just bought one and I'm trying to figure out how to "channel up" or down my favorite stations on the steering column. My old car (3 years old) had the feature on the info switch, up and down, but this one doesn't move the favorites. Do I have to set it up to do that? What am I missing? Thanks!

Are you able to navigate Waze or other apps from your phone or do you need to use the knob?

You will have to use voice command or the knob in most apps. They default to the “car” look when connected.

Linear adjusts the bass and treble to match the mid range. The standard is a lower volume bass and higher volume treble.

Hi Jonathan. I saw a utube video where the owner of a 2021 Mazda CX-5 connected to Apple CarPlay. He did not use a cord into the USB / phone. Your video only shows using a cord?? Does CarPlay not connect by wifi or Bluetooth without plugging in on the 2022 CX 5 GT Sport?? I only see CarPlay when I plug into phone?? Thanks

I got 2022 mazda cx 5 and have a question. When pressing accelerator I can hear high frequncy like wind sound. It gets louder when I press accelerator harder is it normal?

That sounds like you either have Turbo model. Where the wind/whistle sound comes from the turbo unit. Or you have bose audio pilot enabled. Which automatically adjusts the sound volume depending on how load your car is.

Thank you for this great video, it helped me see how it works. Found an article saying that non-touch is actually faster and less distracting once you learn it (muscle memory etc)

I am accustomed to it now. You can use Siri or regular voice command when using Mazda Navigation.

This is only an option for supported languages (meaning English). But this voice magic becomes useless in many languages. Or with trips cross border on Europe, where you have multiple language... so you need to grab your phone into your hand, and do it on tbe regular way.... Also is there an option for zoom or scroll a map?

I was concerned as well when I first purchased my 2021 CX-5, but now I actually prefer the knob. The position of it is right where your hand would naturally rest and it is literally a turn and push type situation. Once you do it a few times, you will remember where all the functions you use frequently are and you don't even have to look at the screen.

Hi Jonathan: I just purchased a 2023 CX-5 Select today and found out 2 hours later that it has no Sirius XM radio. And it looks like there is no way to add it after-the-fact. Can you provide any insight on this?

That is correct, you cannot add. The only thing is to stream the app over Bluetooth. I’m sorry for the inconvenience of timing of this information. I typically use CarPlay and stream most of the content I consume. I hope you find something like that works for you.

Unfortunately, when you turn the car/engine off the infotainment goes off also. You can then put into accessory mode, but the infotainment May reboot depending on how quick it was.

it has been said that the infotainment screen is not touch. Two days ago i bought a lightly used 2021 Mazda CX5 Signature turbo. I run Carplay / apple music. I have been able to touch the pause button in Apple Music on the Mazda screen and it works. But if i recall, it only works by touch if car is in park.

I have a CX-5 and the infotainment system is just not safe. Mazda says their studies indicate it's safer...but show us the studies. In real life you have to twist and mash the "control knob" and other various buttons on the console to migrate through a confusing mess of nested menus. You'll be looking at this screen alot more than other cars with touchscreens. Don't worry though, Mazda will be forced to change this to touch screens unless they want to be the Blockbuster of auto manufacturers. It's really dumb to force Apple Play users to go through this constraint to use a system DESIGNED for touchscreens. My CX-5 is great overall...especially build quality...but really...I feel like I'm forced to use an old fashioned television dial to listen to the radio or find how to adjust system settings.

Mazda salesmen keep saying there is no touchscreen for safety reasons, but I am sure it is about money. It is cheaper to make it this way and it actually is far more distracting because it requires so much more attention to use it.

I’m sure there is some cost consideration. However the CX-50, CX-60, etc have touch while stopped for CarPlay. So they added touch for some applications with a safety element included.

2022 Mazda CX5 does not have wireless Apple CarPlay. Primitive engineering. Cords dangling in your car plus a pain to plug in and unplug each time you enter your car. Especially for short drives.

Mazda cx5 for 2022 does not have wireless Apple CarPlay. You have to plug your lightning cable to car USB causing wear to your plug on your phone. Ever time you get into your car you have to plug in. So much for the advantage of having wireless charging. You still have to plug in. 2021 had wireless CarPlay but they had problems do they removed it in 2022. Instead of fixing the problem they went backwards and removed. Come on Mazda get with technology. This is disappointing. Please come up with a fix and do an update to the 2022’s so there is wireless CarPlay.

@@yellowsnowman9157 I know that BMW uses a dual system and everybody uses the dial while driving. And more, in Germany, it is forbidden to use any touchscreen while driving for good reason. There are enough studys that show how dangerous touchscreens are, just look on the internet. I think you never used Mazdas System for a longer time. I used BMWs system, Mercedes, Audi, Skoda whatever and I realized that Mazdas system is for most tasks while driving the absolute best option.
