Just out of curiosity I looked up the state record weight of false albacore, wanting to know how big they got. Turns out the fairly recent record is 16 pounds held by none other than John Skinner!

I use sizes 1-3. Usually #1 when very calm, #3 with a stiff onshore wind. #2 under most conditions. BTW, I think the Hogys are better.

I get the heebie jeebies seeing them come into view in the shallows. They're so fast that it looks wrong, like a cruddy early cg film effect. Doesn't hurt that the new gopro is just the nuts.
@LesFishingMoreCatching7 жыл бұрын
Nice drag peeling catches. Since you mentioned the rotor and frame rate, you should consider filming at 60fps 1080p60 to capture more action. Tight lines.

Hi John, I've learn so much from your both your books and videos. I'm new to surfcasting and was fishing out of Northport yesterday and throwing a deadly dicks into a school of them and none of them were taking. It was very frustrating. Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Hi John, Really enjoy the videos. I'm in NJ and have to say waters by you look almost tropical. Would like to know what action rod you use with those jigs? I have a couple Tsunami 7ft rods in medium & medium heavy. I'm thinking the medium would work best for those 1oz jigs. Appreciate any feedback you can provide. Thanks.

Hey John, I saw the lure is now available in a 2oz size. Would that be considered too heavy of a jig for albies? Also do you prefer these over the peanut jigs in your other video or do you carry both depending on what they're feeding on? Thanks.

I wonder when I'll see you out there. I'm a quite frequent visitor of that area Edit: actually had a question. I had a hard time getting them off of the bait (they had them balled up between rocks), do you have any recommendations for attracting hits?
@firstnamelastname20147 жыл бұрын
hey John, been watching your videos recently and love the content! i am no novice to fishing with a spinning reel, but i was interested in getting a conventional reel setup as i anticipate getting a boat for next year. any recommendations? btw, i would most likely get a left handed conventional. the retrieve with the right hand is too weird. thanks for the vids and info if you reply! keep up the great videos!

Hey John, It seems the fish were in pretty close. Does that determine how heavy of a jig you choose? Was wondering if something bigger than 1-1/4oz would provide more distance on 20lb braid if the fish are further out from shore?
@JohnSkinnerFishing6 жыл бұрын
I'm aiming to skip the tin on the surface, so the heavier I go, the harder it is to do that without increasing the size of the lure as well as the weight.

I see. Thanks.

One other question John. Do you pinch the barbs when fishing for albies like you usually do when your targeting other fish?
@JohnSkinnerFishing7 жыл бұрын
No. Those hooks have very small barbs, and good luck avoiding occasional slack when they're zipping around.

You should put the slammer knob on the clash. Big difference.
@JohnSkinnerFishing7 жыл бұрын
BRILLIANT! I put the slammer 3 handle on a 4000 Clash. Thanks! Did you do it on a different reel?
@vm8597 жыл бұрын
Slammer 4500 knob on a 4000 Clash handle. Theres a thread on Stripers online on how to do it (cant take credit for the idea lol). Did you get the whole Slammer handle to work on the Clash? The penn rep on there said it wouldn't. I ordered the knob in three separate parts (two knob pieces and the seal) and installed it to my clash handle.
@JohnSkinnerFishing7 жыл бұрын
I swapped the entire handle. I haven't fought fish with it yet, but did about 20 minutes of casting and it seemed fine, and was very comfortable. I'll follow up when I get a little more use out of it.
@JohnSkinnerFishing7 жыл бұрын
Yep, the entire handle works great. Thanks for the suggestion!
