That anime opened my eyes, learning laguages is cool, but what about sign language, i belive that sharing simpathy with deaf people would bring love to their lifes. And there is nothing that makes me happier in this world than sharing love.

I am hearing impaired and will move to Japan soon, so these are extremely helpful - especially the Japanese culture and when each sign should be used! Thank you so much for these videos!!

Hello! I came here for sign #4 1:41 . I am watching 柚木さんち四兄弟 and in the opening they did the hand gesture. I was going crazy and then I got the bright idea to search for JSL and there you are! Thank you for your lesson dear sir. ありがとうございます。。

Definitely me. 😅I learned a little bit of ASL when I was in pre-school and again in college for just a year. I have a very strong love for Japan as a whole and surprisingly it never occurred to me that I could learn JSL as well. Downside is I don't have anyone to talk with in JSL.

I am fluent in ASL, but don't know JSL. I work at a Japanese Immersion school and we have a hard of hearing intern who will be working here for a few months in the spring who uses JSL so I want to practice. Thank you!

Hmm… I seem to be picking up JSL much easier than Japanese. For whatever reason it's also more intuitive for me than ASL. I hope no one thinks I'm stupid for asking, but if I ever go to Japan would knowing JSL be more useful than only knowing English and Spanish? 15 years ago I took the first course for Japanese in a SoCal HS, and because of my photographic memory and being given all of the work sheets for the semester just before the weekend I was able to complete them all and memorize all of the Hiragana and Katakana in the first weekend of the semester. To this day I still recognize all of the Hiragana and most Katakana characters, with my only reminders being the rare instances that I see them in anime's and recently also in Japanese series on Netflix. Reading Japanese isn't very useful when I don't understand what it means though. I'd love to visit Japan someday, but my audio memory isn't too good. So I'd probably need to dedicate an hour/day for a decade to learn Japanese. On the other hand I can already recognize several signs and the first time I was exposed to JSL was a few days ago when I started Orange Days on Netflix. I suppose it's a combination of my photographic memory, good direction with the presentation of JSL in the series, and the fact that I don't understand Japanese and have to read it the whole time anyway, but by the end of binging the series (a few episodes/day) I noticed I wasn't really reading the subtitles during the fully signed conversations anymore. That's without trying to learn the signs, so I might learn even faster by studying instructional videos like this one.
