Jen THIS format (picture of an actual garment w the wrinkles, then analysis of what the wrinkles are telling us, then showing pattern adjustments) is SUPER helpful. Especially for pants. I realize you do variations of this format all the time but there is something about this one (could be the great pictures from all sides) that is especially thorough and helpful.

Wow! I've had all of these pants issues in the last 40 years of sewing pants for myself and never knew how to fix them. Thank you, thank you so much for showing the right way. My own fixes were mostly haphazard lengthening inseam or side seams which often didn't really take care of the problem.

Such a clear and understandable set of explanations of the wrinkles and how to fix them. Pants are my most problematic garment, even ready-made. So, correcting these issues has been a goal of mine for decades. This is the first time I've been able to understand this issue clearly. You are a superb teacher! (from a teacher whose career spans 49 years.)

Hello, I'm Brazilian and it's actually a great video. I'm always looking for this type of content to improve myself. Here in my country, they don't have this learning experience. They only put the pattern there and don't teach the adjustments 😢. Thank you, I already subscribed to follow your channel.

Thank you for such an informative video. It may be a stupid question but why can't you add a bit at Side Seam to help with the fuller front thigh?
@JSternDesigns Жыл бұрын
Extending the front crotch curve gives you a longer extension to wrap around your inner thigh to meet the back crotch extension... You can let the side seams out as well if you still need more ease. Thanks for fitting along with me

Do you have any tutorials on how to tailor jeans to fix the fit issue? I have always bought a larger size and try to fix it but not very successful at it.
@JSternDesigns Жыл бұрын
If it's a matter of taking in side and inseams you can do that by taking out the topstitching and sewing deeper along these seams. Then if the rise is too long, check out this tutorial kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpuXeph5ecx-nck Hope this helps you! Thanks for fitting along with me
@ljubakovacic57729 ай бұрын
wow! I am hoping this will help my what seems like the exact same problem. I am wondering how do you know if the inseam is in a good position? I think mine might be a bit forward, but when I add more to the crotch point and that is comfortable, then I seem to have too much fabric on the inseam. However, the outer seam of the front leg looks like that is where the extra fabric is needed. Not sure if I"m making sense here....
@JSternDesigns9 ай бұрын
:) If you need to lengthen the front crotch point and inseam to push it back a little, you can take a like amount away from the back so you maintain the same amount of ease. If you need fabric on the side seam... you can add it there and take it away from the inseam to shift it over! ...It's also common to have too much fabric on the side seam and not enough along the inseam :)
@ljubakovacic57729 ай бұрын
Thank you, Jen. huh! hadn't thought that you could add and subtract from side seams like that. But how do you know if the inseam is in the right position? I think I tend to have mine more forward as that way it doesn't' catch on walking. I have seen some drop plumb lines from under the crotch but then I cant' seem to shape the fabric so it doesn't catch at the thigh on walking. @@JSternDesigns

Great, thank you for the tips. One question: is there a way to fix gaping pant front pockets?
@JSternDesigns2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Usually front pockets gape when the pants are too snug across the back/front. Another cause can be the way the pockets were constructed. If the pocket bag and front pocket facing are not aligned properly, sewing the base of the pocket bag can pull at the side seam and waistline, creating a gape.
@claudiaasensio70442 жыл бұрын
@@JSternDesigns Thank you for your response. It is a little tricky to adjust front pockets with a dart sewed to the waist band. For me it is a tipical problem that there is enough or too much space for the hips and waist, but not for the belly nor the butt. Many patterns are made for flat guitar shaped women, even in bigger sizes.

Excellent video. On the crotch length, do I use the same method to shorten the crotch length as you did to lengthen it?
@JSternDesigns Жыл бұрын
Thanks. There are a few ways to shorten the crotch length... If you need to remove ease along the inseam too, you can shorten the crotch points. If you need the ease along the inseam, I would shorten the crotch length above the crotch curve by slashing the leg from the side seam through the CB seam. Then overlap the CB edge (pivot at the side seam). Hope this helps. Thanks for fitting along with me

Maybe you could give me suggestions for fitting the back of my pants. I had diagonal wrinkles from the outer seam going down to the inseam. I tried the pinching out diagonally from the side seam to the inseam. There was improvement but still had wrinkles in the back. I noticed that the inseam hem was still higher than the out seam. I tried inserting a wedge on the inseam an taking out the same size and wedge on the out seam but still have wrinkles. They are u-shaped. Thank you!
@mornadombach79452 жыл бұрын
P.S. I have found your tutorials and your Craftsy class so helpful, but I just can't figure out how to fix this issue.
@JSternDesigns2 жыл бұрын
Diagonal wrinkles from side seam to inseam can mean that the waistline at the side seams are pulled up a little too high (or you may need a long side seam above the crotch level. If the hem picks up at the inseam, you do need to lengthen it by slashing the leg (about 2" below crotch level) and spreading the inseam to make it even with the side seam along the leg. But.. .without seeing photos of the front/side/back, I can't be sure about the diagonal wrinkles. You can email them to me a jsterndesigns37@gmail.com and I'll take a look.

The lower line is the new crotch level... Because we transferred some of the vertical length from below the crotch to above it.

The more you move the cf angle toward the side When closing cf will create fullness at crotch
@JSternDesigns Жыл бұрын
A more angled CF crotch (toward the side seam) will fit a defined waistline (smaller than high hip). A more angled CB seam will fit a more prominent butt in the back (because it creates more room inside the pant). Thanks for fitting along with me
