Sooooo helpful. I now can fix my 'sew to grow bondi top' this Dolman top slides back, also need to add a front dart.

So happy this helps you with your Dolman Top! Curious, What kind of dart do you need to add?

Great information. Right now I’m figuring out how to get my knee in proper place for my bootstrap pants form. I know I’ll probably have to cut some fabric but just a big chicken right now. The wheels for my table didn’t work out. They were too big and we couldn’t find stem casters small enough for my hollow legs. So instead I went to target and got rolling hamper and large rolling bin for my things. I can roll them out and turn my table around with no problem. This makes it so much easier to iron large pieces of fabric. Cut out patterns, and draw patterns.

Thank you, great tips! How would you adjust it if you have forward shoulders please?
@JSternDesigns15 күн бұрын
I worked with someone who needed to shorten the front because of a forward shoulder.... after doing what I thought would work... trim off the edge of the front shoulder edge and add to the back shoulder edge... (didn't work)... We tried taking off some down the center front to close the neckline slightly... This pulled the fabric toward CF and allowed the dolman sleeve top to sit right. We took about 1" off at CF neckline and blended to 0 at the hem. If this closes the neckline too much, you can redraw the neckline to open it back up. This doesn't "technically" adjust the shoulder, but it worked in this case. Hope this helps! (ps. you can try it by pinning the fabric out of a dolman sleeve top to see if it fits better.)

If you need to take out ease in the front and the pattern is a button up front with a collar, what would that adjustment look like?
@JSternDesigns4 ай бұрын
That depends on where the excess ease is... Is it in the high bust/full bust area or is it lower below the full bust? Let me know and I'll point you to a tutorial :) Thanks for fitting along with me

@@JSternDesigns I feel like it's the whole front. I may make a smaller size and see if that makes a difference? It's definitely not too big in the back though there is a fair bit of gathers under the back yolk that makes it look a bit baggy with the cotton fabric I've used.

I was watching one of your videos on ‘yoga waistbands for zip up jeans’ and was noticing those fabric clips you were using that had a flat metal tip on both sides- where in the world did you get them? They are the neatest cuz you can see closer to the needle before you have to remove it . I need some of those! 🤗 Love your channel and especially the COOL TOOLS! 👍 Happy 🧵 Virginia in Arkansas

Hi! I just made a fit muslin of the melody dolman. I think I need a forward shoulder adjustement. Because the sleeve seam fits correctly at the neck but then is too much in the back when it reaches the shoulder. It also blocks the arm movement a little bit. How would you go about adjusting a dolman for a forward shoulder? Many thanks!

I'm sorry I haven't responded to you about this. I'm trying to wrap my head around what's going on. Can you email me photos of the front/side/back views along with the pattern pieces so I can make suggestions. (jsterndesigns37@gmail.com) Thanks for watching

Can you give me some advice on how to adjust a dolman for sloped shoulders. I do have a rounded back which I usually add 5/8 inch on a set in sleeve but also slope the shoulder 1/2 inch this usually always fixes the problem but with a dolman I know there is additional wrinkles but when I pull up on tip of shoulder most disappear. Just not sure how to adjust that. Thanks for your help
@JSternDesigns6 ай бұрын
Put the top on inside out and pin it at the tip of the shoulder to get rid of wrinkles... Then blend the seam back to the original at the neckline ... and the seam going toward the wrist end of the sleeve... See if you can reshape the seam like that to fix the problem... Hope this helps! Thank you for the great advises. They are very useful. But what if my kimono (with a open center front) still slips backwards after I add the extra back shoulder plus sleeve height?
@JSternDesigns6 ай бұрын
Did you try taking in the front neckline? It could be took wide, allowing the kimono to slip backward :)
@wjlee94356 ай бұрын
@@JSternDesigns Because the kimono's front is an all-in-one straight cut with no curved-collar nor closure, so I can't really stop it slipping back.
@JSternDesigns6 ай бұрын
How about creating back neck curve so you can pull it up high on your shoulders?

Yes!! Have you seen my Efficient Work Flow for Bodice Fitting? This process starts at the top of the pattern in the Blue Zone to fit the upper back, neck, chest and shoulder first. Then when the bodice is sitting properly on your shoulders, you work down to fit the base of the armhole, bust dart, waist and hem. Here's a link to Part 1 which includes how to adjust the back neckline and high round back. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nX_Wd6BuqcR5btE Thanks for fitting along with me

I have the opposite problem. Mine seem to slide forward as I wear them and I have pull it up and back to get the shoulder seams to sit where they should. But after watching this maybe I should add a wedge to the back as you suggest to see if the top will sit better on my rounding upper back. Or do I need to take up a wedge at the back shoulder?
@JSternDesigns6 ай бұрын
When I was trying to help someone from keeping the neckline from shifting backwards... we added to the back thinking that would fix it... After adding a couple inches, we realized that wasn't working... I suspect that this adjustment may work for you if you try it in the back neckline... You can use pins to take out some to see if that works before doing anything invasive.... Hope this helps! Thanks for fitting along with me

@@JSternDesigns Excellent. Thank you. There is a panel in the centre back. I took it in as a narrow horizontal fisheye dart across the upper part of this back panel on the shirt I have and it fit great. I will just topstitch this seam and make it a design feature. Kinda looks like a yoke now.

Is adjusting for a HRB really that easy??!!?? I can’t tell you how many times I overlooked dolman sleeves just because of this adjustment. I didn’t know where to stop the end of the pivot. Just to be sure, your pattern shows the armhole, but a true dolman sleeve pattern doesn’t have the armhole curve. So where should I end the pivot? At the shoulder where it starts to lower?
@JSternDesigns6 ай бұрын
:)))))) Thank you for pointing that out, I forgot to give you a reference point to slash back up to the edge of the shoulder/sleeve. ... Measure from the edge of the neckline out 4-5 inches where the armhole would be. Thanks for fitting along with me!
