This band is worthy of a double album playlist, despite having only six albums with Jim. The Crystal Ship, Unknown Soldier, Spanish Caravan, Lost Little Girl, Unhappy Girl, LA Woman, Soft Parade (live version), Love Street, Love Her Madly…

Maggie McGill, Wild Child, Pace Frog, The Changling, Five to One, Hyacinth House, Strange Days, more than half of their songs are awesome, there are also the versions that were only recorded live such The lizard Celebrartion, Black Train Song, Gloria, The Doors have not had the recognition they deserve.

The Doors are a bit like The Beatles, where you can hardly find a bad song. Jim Morrison couldn't play any instrument in the beginning and had all his songs in his head!

A month ago I added Waiting For The Sun to my ever-growing record collection, and despite not owning too many so far, it's definitely my favorite record I own. From the flamingo influnces within Spanish Caravan to the mellow blues-ey feel captured in Love Street, it's an all-around great album in my book. My personal favorite however has got to go to Wintertime Love. I had never heard that track prior to owning the LP, so it really emerged out of the blue for me; something about the waltz-feeling captivates me to groove along with the track. I feel it suffers from the same problem a lot of Doors tracks have in my heat: they are too darn short.

You’re great, and thanks for that. I’m a serious Doors fan, and as such I disagree with your dismissal of The Soft Parade. Wild Child, Shaman’s Blues and the title cut are great tunes, and worth listening. In no order: The Crystal Ship; Shaman’s Blues; Summer’s Almost Gone; Hyacinth House; Waiting for the Sun; Cars Hiss by My Window; Maggie M’Gill; Been Down So Long; The Soft Parade; Roadhouse Blues; Take it as it Comes; You’re Lost Little Girl; LA Woman; The Spy; Wild Child.

@@JTCurtisMusic You’ve heard the version on the box set right? The live version? It’s a whole new look at The Soft Parade, and it’s similar to Nirvana in the studio vs Unplugged in the way it exposes over production.

The Doors, besides CCR, is my favourite band of all times. Every song is a pleasure to hear. My three favourites are definitely Moonlight Drive, Twentieth Century Fox and Break on Through. To me Jim is just the most interesting person in rock history, his life, his song texts, just everything makes me feel sad that I could never attend one of their concerts to see him live. When I started to get more interested into music I looked through my playlist and found Roadhouse Blues jsut sitting somewhere between Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, and CCR and I thought I had to spend more time with their music. The only other songs I knew at the time where Break on through, Light my Fire, Riders on the Storm and Hello, I love you. But when I listened to all the other songs there was no stopping. Since this day I am so much in love with every song they ever produced, but yk this is from a die-hard fan and I still respect ur opinion ( cause lets be honest, the soft parade truly is the worst one :) ). They also introduced me into the world of psychedelic rock and in genreal sixties music and now I also love other bands like Jefferson Airplane, The Hendrix Experience, Cream, and in general nearly everything from the sixties. So you could say the Doors had a really big influence on me.

The Doors had three distinct incarnations. First two albums were the acid-art rock band. This was my favorite version. The third and fourth albums are more a pop band. This is the weakest incarnation to me. The last two albums are the blues band. This one isn't bad, just not on the level of the first two albums. And there is the issue of Jim's voice being shot on the final album. As for lyrics, "The WASP" is truly incredible.

I disagree. Lyrically, yes I would describe "Touch Me" as a "commercial song", but not musically. It is really progressive and ahead of its time with a very big instrumentation; it has been described as a precursor of prog. Commercial songs usually do not have a progressive or sophisticated structure.

Some of their tracks sound a bit ramshackled, as Love Me Two Times and Hello I Love you; They lack body, kind of underproduced or arranged. One of my favorites, Not To Touch The Earth, suffers from that typical sixties trashy tin can staccato drumming . But their first siix albums are the best rock six pack in history, even if the Soft Parade has some weaker songs. As the playlist is rather short, no The End or When The Music Is Over for me, better change them by two or three others, Hyacinth House - also sounding not as good as iit could have - and Peace Frog, Unknown Soldier, for example..
