Heres a little safety tip for you. Many people have been killed towing things with tractors. There is a very simple solution, run the cable under the tractor and hook it to the front. This way it pulls the front of the tractor down , eliminating the possibility of it flipping up. running another chain loop, loosely and not too high, around the cable at the rear, will keep it centered and stop it getting caught up in the wheels

My first car a 64 ford falcon wagon.. my older brother left the hood off, spark plugs out, and over the Ohio winter months later, it was locked tight. But I took on the challenge with no experience what so ever at 16 years old.. I tore it down . A sledge hammer and a 2x4 to get the pistons moving.. put it all back together and drove it in the fields. That’s where I learned to drive.

Sure enough, another family auto shop! I wish my own Dad had more participation through the years. I bought a 1956 T-Bird in 1960, and while a good solid car, it served to ignite the spark of gearhead in me. Looks like you need an FE transplant! Our son had a tired 1966 or 67 Galaxy wagon which was pretty tired, and we gave it a heart transplant with a 390. C6 trans, and whatever the stock axle ratio was, but it was a 9". This became known as "The draggin' wagon." That was around 1974. Yours is also a 9" which is pretty much as good as it gets! The tranny will probably be OK if it is in generally good shape. If not, Ford 10 bolt four speeds are still fairly plentiful.

Dad was a diesel mechanic and he would put a pint of diesel fuel in the radiator to keep the passages clean, When he built a 292 for his 63 pu a year later the ortginal sat on the shop floor and the passages were clean, A truck engine took a gallon of fuel, Give it a try just remember that oil in the rad is sipposed to be there.

It is great you let the kids do things on the channel - not just be visible, but actually work on stuff, tap threads, weld, pull apart the engine etc! And Tosh is pure gold helping do everything and anything 👍. I am voting for rebuilding the engine, it is an actual period correct engine, with the heads being the newest and even that a year newer than the car, Also note the actual build date back when that car was built was the date the power train is added to the chassis or the year the chassis and power train was mated to the body, I can't remember which one. These days it is different, with build dates, compliance dates and model year dates. Usually any two of these last three dates are the same, and one could be the following year.

Like the Galaxie Wagon. If you can buy a good runnning engine For the price of what it takes to bore, sleeve, polish the crankshaft, cam lifters, bearings, piston rings, etc, it would be worth it. Ok. I have to make a second comment. The 289/302 is a great engine. You can build great power on it. My opinion? Rebuild it. This is something that Ralphy can learn on. If you buy a new engine, you are going to spend around $1500.00. That has been my experience. If you buy a used motor from the junkyard you might be spending around $500, but you would be buying someone else's problems. You have an original 289. to me that's priceless. So sleep it hone it and rebuild it that's just me love yourself love the fact that Ralphie is a part of that. I can't wait to see the outcome look forward to seeing the next video.
@portlandon2 жыл бұрын
The 289 in the big galaxie is way underpowered with your whole family in it. I know as I have a 63 galaxie with a 289. Upgrade to a 352 or 390. It would haul your whole family and a trailer easily.

You have seen the photos of my 1991 Crown Victoria wagon. This car has the 302 V8 that I had rebuilt along with the 4 speed overdrive transmission two years ago. The rebuilder put in flat top pistons to increase the horsepower. It has about 10,000.0 miles since the rebuild and runs like a watch. This is the wagon that I tow my boat with as I have air shocks on the rear to take the weight of the boat. I would suggest that you put in a more modern 302 V8 with fuel injection and make this car into a daily driver and kid hauler. Great car and worth saving.

Re sleeve that one cylinder. I love me a 289 or 302 . I had a 67 mustang with a 302 and it was a ripper back in 1978. It would burn rubber for a city block. I want you to rebuild it. Its numbers matching. It makes good video to watch someone build an engine. This going to be good. Plane the heads .30 and put anti pump up lifters in so you can rev it up really high with out floating the lifters out. That was the death of my 302. I know like station wagons but back in the day I was all about early mustangs. 64 to 73. I drove mine all through high school up to 82 or so.
@thomaslyon21122 жыл бұрын
Maby you could build a wooden push bumper for the front of the tractor. A 2x12 an cut some pieses off old casein an attach to the 2x12 for padding. Then you could hang some weight (if needed) on the bumper. Maby fix the brakes on the tractor too. You should be able to steer the tractor with left or right brake application. Good luck!

I would sleeve that engine. At least you know what you got with this one. Just my input. I'm so glad you where able to quit your other job, and spend so much time with your family!

That's why farm tractors have independent rear brakes so you can turn under hard pull, try loading the front casings..(almost used the T-word)..we used to have a black 64 with 352 and cast iron trans. Side facing seats in rear , loved that car

The tractor wouldn't turn as you had the 3 point link ATMs connected at 2 points Good to see the engine being stripped down, really enjoyed that

My wife & I think your Galaxie wagon is great! Love those old 9 seat wagons! We are in favor of rebuilding the engine, and the application of the sleeve over the damaged part...I've never added a sleeve before myself, and curious how you would go about it.... we both love your family and show ---- my wife surprised me with one of your T-shirts....nice quality...thanks!!!
