The Japanese King Grimlock was done up in this brilliant silver sheen, and the overall color scheme was based on the original Marvel comics Grimlock. the chrome was even brighter on that one as well, this, it's just the standard Masterpiece Grimlock without the Madman's Paradise kit, the Grimlock's New Brain kit, and instead comes with the King Grimlock's crown done up in the darker chrome

For the record, the Japanese MP-08x that comes with the crown is colored very differently. The grey is the same silver color from Masterpiece Megatron, the gold is more an metallic orange/bronze, and all the black parts are dark blue. It's intended to represent Marvel comics Grimlock instead of Sunbow toon Grimlock. That's why one includes the accessories changed as well, comic crown for comic colors, toon apron for toon colors. The comic version was a store exclusive. Do some research.

In any case from what I remember Grimlock was in dino mode most times, which is the mode he looks best and the clear plastic on figures is ok, though I can't help but think it will turn yellow over time.

Yeah, could be: I have Hasbro Skywarp and Starscream MP and Thundercracker is the only one left to complete my Seekers "triumvirate"; however the blue color is a bit inaccurate and I´m not so good to put stickers (I HATE STICKERS, that´s why I rather stick with Hasbro´s MP).

if its loose, just use superglue and move the joint all arounds, just don't let it stick, i did that with animated shockwave, although his hand was a softer bit of plastic, maybe try nail polish or nail polish remover, i forget which one it was that works better.

nice review, agree with you on his size, but the comic version is more expensive mainly cause the paint making him look more exclusive, or blinging

This Grimlock looks wonderful on my classics shelf. as far as Takara'a King Grimlock, from what i saw from TFsource.com's vid on him, he's just way more chromed out and shiny than the original. i agree that he's not worth $200 but still a great figure

The gimmick for neck n tail is when he bite on to something and shake it, the head up n down and the leg, is for when T. rex is walking, it suppose to make him more lively, well that's just my thoughts.

@ersico The autobot symbol didnt appear at all on mine when i first did it.I found a little lever that has to be pushed just right when you are bringing the chest up.Kind of odd but it is also kind of cool to have the option to have him with or without the symbol.It fits grimlocks view of being an autobot.even if that was not hasbros intention.

Honestly, I wonder if the only differences between the Japanese release and the American release are cosmetic. I might be completely wrong, but I actually be differences in the manufacturing and plastic quality, possibly even the removal of die-cast parts? Whatever the case, the claws don't seem to be as sharp as the original Masterpiece.

@rodster6 Well, he fits with the Seekers sort of. Also, big Grimlock figure, about the size of the larger Leader class figures, maybe a bit bigger. He's nicely designed, well articulated, looks like our Dinobot friend better than the Classics figure, which is a larger version of his Pretender body that never appeared anywhere. Plus, Giant Robot Tyrannosaurus Rex that turns into a robot.

The only problem i have with my Masterpiece grimlock is one of his tail tips don't slide well into the leg and can get stuck easily so i normally leave it slightly hanging out so i can pull it out, but when he's in dino mode his tail tips don't align very well.

I agree. Why they made MP Grimlock so much shorter than MP prime, I will never figure out. Every version of him, whether it be the cartoons, the games or the comics, he has always been one, if not the biggest transformers of all time. that is of couars barring Omega Supreme, Devastator and the like. But, Grimlock is a fucking T Rex, one of the largest dinosaurs. Of course he is going to be taller in robot form .

prime and grimlock were the same size that grimlock might fit in well with the i gear mini prime if you have it.

They remade Prime to be more in scale. Grimlock is still slightly smaller but he's better now.

BTW, looking at this--you seemed a little puzzled about whether the waist was supposed to move liked that--I suspect that movement is actually the tail-swing/head-turn gimmick, or what's left of it in robot mode.

@illiniguy34 Thx! Indeed, I bought Thundercracker before Christmas of last year. Nice figure, the only thing that doesn`t necessary hate but I would change for a future release is the paint applicaton which I consider too dark, I rather prefer a more clear blue like the original cartoon, but anyway Thundercracker MP is really a big deal moreover is OOP.

The G1 was cool, I've been wanting it since I was a kid. This is actually priced at P10,000 to P15,000 here in the Philippines and I can't shell out that much, checked out sulit.com (Filipino type Ebay) and found someone selling it at P5,000. Guess I'll get this MP Grimlock after all.

I don't know what's wrong with the chest on yours, but mine actually holds together very well. Although I do have the Takara one, so I don't know if there is a difference between the quality of plastic or not.

the tail gimmick is supposed to replicate him bighting into something,(like a decepticon) and he is swinging his tail and shacking his pray. And the other gimmick is supposed to replicate him walking. And the last gimmick... welllllllllllllllllllll u can do that manuley.

Oh dont get me wrong, I know many things out there are pretty damn expensive.. Myself I paint miniatures from warhammer 40k, kinda expensive too, but they can be used for games very much like chess.. still plastic, but its part of a game... this just appears to be a toy which is most likely made for children.. hence the spring system and the lack of posing options.. but again, not hating on anything, I... I just dont get it.. but hey, some people collect stamps, others collect transformer toys..
