You mentioned putting pressure on the back of your head. I like to use a mini band this. I would stand on it and loop the other end around my neck. Its just enough pressure or resistance to make me focus on staying more upright and not leaning forward. Great Vid by the way!

People are getting confused about this. No, you should not squat the weight, IN GENERAL, as this typically causes you to try to go too low, and you will have no pulling power. However, if you are a lifter that struggles with correct hip positioning and typically ends up straightening out the legs early, and finishing with the back only, then thinking of the movement more as a squat will help you generate the leg drive needed to do so. That's all I think he really wanted to say.

My deadlift form used to be shit. Then I discovered Pete Rubish and my life changed. Follow Pete's vid's on set up and form, absolute perfection.

I am so confused.. Starting with the hips too low is the number one mistake in a deadlift according to Dave Tate's article on elitefts.. Isn't it more a matter of lifting preference than than a "mistake"?
@blickluke11 жыл бұрын
That's in reference to hip position, when that is said the person is talking about making sure your hips are HIGH not LOW

can you do this kind of video for sumo deadlifts?

also apparently a good deadlift is not a pull but a pushing away of the ground, which is maybe what he captures by suggesting a squat, check out DeNovo Nutrition's deadlift guide

As others have said, he's not actually telling you to squat the weight up, he's saying that if you have a problem with your hips being too high, you need to get your ass lower, use more leg drive, and drive up LIKE a squat. Squatting a deadlift up is what you do with a trap bar, this isn't what he's talking about.

First, there's a range of hip heights you want to be in. You don't want to be way too low or too high either. From there you can cater to your preference. Also, Dave Tate's talking about starting position, but Lilly is talking about actually executing the movement. Like he shows in the video, some people start pulling and their hips shoot way up. This is always bad because you're losing your position and wasting energy.

it just means a shin angle of 90 degrees or more acute, but not the typical knees near toes seen in a front squat, this is assuming your not an olympic weightlifter

Deadlifts are not squats so why should one come and attack the weight as if it were a squat?
@lukeinthehouse10 жыл бұрын
Maximum power and effort in a movement that requires it.

deadliest are not squats that means your hips must be set higher
@lukeinthehouse10 жыл бұрын
I originally misread your comment, first of all geometry and limb lengths will determine optimal angles and leverages.. so in turn there are alot of people who can probably deadlift very well whilst getting low "squats" as everyone in the comments like to call it (even though you wouldn't even break parallel at the femurs) in no way has this video said to deadlift in a squat position. It may seem that way since he worded it poorly, generally in the set up people need to sit back and prime their hips or the weight will be on their toes, once again depending on skill level and leverages will decide where your hips will be. It isn't up to what people say on the internet it's what works best for each individual. The reason people start with their hips high is because upon breaking the weight off the floor if you're set up is too low usually your hips shoot up first, so you loose speed and power. If you don't agree look up George Leeman, see how low he gets, another benefit is it gives more drive from the quads to rip it from the floor. That's probably optimal form for his limb lengths, eventhough his hips rise with the bar upon breaking from the floor he can still lock out easily from the momentum of the initial break.

Good. However, essentially, you want your hips higher in the deadlift naturally. Also, yeah of course everyone has different strengths simply have to find whats optimal for you but, what I'm saying is squatting and deadlifting are different. In a deadlift you want your hips back and butt back and drive the weight up pushing through the heels. Its more of a push rather than a pull. Take a look at the best pound for pound deadlifter arguably Richard Hawthorne he explains the deadlift quite well bro.

since the weight he is using for the demo is super light id imagine hes not really caring about form for this video. just teaching the three main mistakes

Well, when you are showing a video about FORM lol, you need to actually have good form? He just doesn't have great technique. He's just a bull.
