In Qualifying, Rubens was half a second slower. In the dominant Ferrari car. Also in history, Schumi crashed during the race weekend. He emerged unhurt, but just lay down beside his totaled car for a few minutes. People speculate that that moment was when he began to seriously think of retiring, which he did two - odd years later.

The cars are junk, half the reason I watched f1 was because of the cars and their exotic designs and high revs, I haven't watched since they went to V6 turbos. my mini van has a V6, hardly impressive. V10s that rev up 19,000 RPMs now that's impressive. The racing is a little more competitive today but the cars are so damn unimpressive. Might as well watch Indy car. You think they could combine some of todays technology with some of yesterdays technology to make an ultimate machine. I'd like to see them go back to refueling too, it adds a little more drama in the pits and you can shorten the cars so they're not as long as a limo.

No slicks, no DRS, no KERS or ERS and no turbo. Just a big engine, a good chasis and a committed driver.

No Slicks...mate there's nothing wrong with having slicks. They are naturally faster than grooved tyres, grooved were brought in to slow them down. If these 2004 cars used slicks and where developed around Slicks, the lap times would be scary quick. And I'm talking 1:16 around Monza would be possible. Hypothetically speaking of course!
@LisztyLiszt
@LisztyLiszt 9 жыл бұрын
That's my point. There's no harm in having any of the things I mentioned. They all make the car go faster. But in 2004, the cars were faster than today without all the electric bits, a turbo or DRS, but they had better greater engines and mechanical grip. The slicks of today actually slow the cars down thanks to what Pirelli have been asked to produce.
@Rottensteam
@Rottensteam 9 жыл бұрын
+LisztyLiszt they had way more electrical bits back then compared to todays f1 cars. Traction control, launch control, computer mapped engine braking. It took alot less skill to drive these computer cars.
@hedleythorne

+Rottensteam So why have there been numerous reports from ex drivers, industry experts etc saying the cars nowadays are the easiest to drive ever? Yes the torque is artificially higher because of electrical motors and the steering wheels are like Nintendo consoles but just watch a Hakkinen race and see how hard the drivers werr working, how exhausted they were after the race etc.
@Rottensteam
@Rottensteam 9 жыл бұрын
+Hedley Thorne several say they're still difficult to drive fx James Allison, Ferrari engineer, says so and those who says its easier today compared it to the 1980s era with those fairly "primitive" turbo cars with huge amount of turbo lag, those were really difficult to drive, the throttle almost worked as an on-off switch. But compared to the 2001-2007 era these cars are more difficult, look at how bad Kimi performs in a car without driver aids.

The fact that he did it in what wasn’t the fastest car and with those idiotic ridged tyres defies belief. What a driver, you can speak of the greats all you want but this guy was at the very top. There’s a reason Bugatti chose him for the 0-400-0 test, he is immense and when he gives his opinion, which he rarely does, I listen. This guy will forever be underrated and I have no idea why
