With this achievement, the two-times Le Mans winner has beaten the lap record on the revered 20.832 kilometre long German race circuit that stood for 35 years. The best thing is when you look at the hood cam it seems so stable, like the car is riding on rails and the driver is just effortlessly trashing it around at over 300kph, but when you see the onboard with the drivers head shaking and bouncing violently due to the cornering forces and bumps on the track, it just becomes clear what a visceral and extreme lap this is. An absolute feat of engineering and driving skill, truly incredible.

Years ago, I watched Stefan Bellof's lap of the ring, and it was the first time I learned about this track, seeing this now, while knowing Bellof did 6:11.13 in 1983, and seeing what Timo Bernhard just did, it blows my mind how good these drivers are. There's parts of this video were Timo is flat out and you can see (or you know) that the track is not the smoothest or best surface and he just nails it, total faith in friction and total concentration.

the difficulty of the track, the car´s hybrid recuperation system screaming the vibrations, starting foxhole at 230 kmh and going fucking full throttle in all of it, the driver shaking on the straight without any kind of problem and still being precise with the pedals.... this video reminds me the beauty of racing, even if its hybrid.

It has a small battery. Under initial acceleration that battery converts into torque. Braking & exhaust gases are used to charge it. With corect tuning you can hit the right balance for the track; balancing electrical boost to get you up to max speed and letting the petrol engine fly when its ok The trie genius os the areodymamics.
