Comparing swings without describing the type of pitch it was and the location of the pitch is pointless. Elite hitters adjust their mechanics based on these variables.
@nonamenonamenoname8663Күн бұрын
Actually, no, elite hitters absolutely do not "adjust their mechanics" based on any variable what so ever. To slow down one's timing, to delay ones swing, or to speed it up, is one thing, and it's a simple thing, but to entirely adjust one's mechanics from pitcher to pitcher, or even worse during an at bat based on some variable is neither an intelligent thing to do, nor is it something elite hitters do. Bad hitters may, decent hitters may, but it's all for not. That's because if you actually think that any hitters, "elite" or otherwise is adjusting the mechanics of their swing in some way based on things like the count, the weather, the style of pitcher or the scouting report, velocity, if he's feeling fast or slow at the time, whatever it may be, it's not happening. It's certainly not happening where a good hitter is a part of the equation. There's not remotely enough time to do so from pitch to pitch, especially not if the hitter is dumb enough to try to do so after the pitch because to try and do that is really dumb, a monumental error to even consider attempting, even more so to actually think it's a good idea to attempt to do. Yea, some hitters from time to time may adjust their swing a bit more than usual if a guy is just straight flickin boogers at him in the box, but that's rare, and even then it's just not a good idea to do. Besides, it's bad JUJU to out right change the mechanics of anything you do in the arena of competitive sports while enthralled in battle. It's best to do those things when there's adequate time between games so that you may have time left to switch back to the way you were originally doing things prior to making the decisions of a desperately slumping man and altering your swing. Outside of simple adjustments to ones timing from at bat to at bat, rarely but sometimes it is worth doing it from one pitch to the next under rare but specific criteria as any time you change your swing up you're really sticking your kneck out for the baseball God's to whack you with the clippers To say that elite hitters adjust the mechanics of their swing dependent to the variables at play just simply doesn't happen and is not at all truthful. They just don't, absolutely not, and I know this because they are elite, and they wouldn't be elite hitters if they were going about it in a way that was routinely being changed. Just go check tape if you for some reason don't agree with that fact. You will see a guy adjust his timing in some slight way perhaps, you will see a guy speed up or slow down their swing, but one thing you will not see any successful hitters doing is regularly changing the mechanics of their swings from one at bat to the next, one pitcher to the next, pitch to pitch, or from game to game. Unless of course a guy is slumping something nasty, and desperate for a slumpbuster, otherwise it's just bad juju to even tinker with a guy's swing mechanics unless absolutely desperate and it's necessary to really shake things up.

Hitting technique and mental toughness are two different things. Judge showed a severe lack of mental toughness this postseason, and every other postseason that came before. He lets the big moment get to him, and that dropped popup was proof for anyone who wasn't already convinced. This man is a hitting coach who teaches how to hit. He can't make a man grow a nutsack.

I could be wrong. But it looks like Jazz just has a bigger load. He completes that rubberband (hands back, leg forward) motion and snaps. Holds the bat on his shoulder then drops hands to in the zone. Much like Griffey. Is that actually wrong? Or is it just different from Soto? Soto is obviously much bigger than Jazz and doesn't have much movement, can that just be he generates power differently? Soto moves less than Judge still generates great power.

Maybe picking a bad swing was the point. He's pointing out that this is what it looks like when a swing is not ideal and mechanics break down a bit.
@deverenaddison4592Күн бұрын
Different point of contact makes a big difference. Chisholm actually hits a waist high pitch but hits the bottom of the ball and lifts it up because he's early on it. Soto catches an almost chest high pitch and hits the back of the ball at contact. Soto outweighs Chisholm by about 25-30 lbs as well. They both have different motor skills they use to generate power in the swing. Neither is wrong. They both could be more efficient by rotating the top hand and forearm backwards through contact. Chisholm semi does this, Soto even less. It's an explosion motor skill that increases exit velocity 👌🏾
@rustyshackleford1562Күн бұрын
The most powerful point of contact is with the arms fully extended and the next two inches afterwards. That is universal and the only correct way to maximize power.
@povertygarage705Күн бұрын
He's just showing the difference between ideal mechanics and a little less than ideal. Even guys with the best swing mechanics in their default swing will sometimes have to compromise to put the ball in play and maybe that's what Jazz is doing here. Pitchers are good at getting hitters off time and chasing balls on the corners. If this is Jazz's default swing, then perhaps there is room for slight improvements.
