I usually go for phones with cameras that are the least over exposed or over saturated. Most are ok in bright light, but in low light usually over expose like crazy because "brighter is better". Yes, exposure slider yes I get it. But sometimes I just want to open the camera and take a picture. Typically the exposure slider resets every single time, and on some phones is hidden behind menus, or only pops up "contextually"
@thatdude71702 жыл бұрын
What I like about the Vivo philosophy is that it's flexible enough to let you pick your approach. If you wanna do simple hdr point and shoot, you can do it. If you want to get the absolute best the hardware is capable of, it has super raw. If you want fun but more casual stuff like portrait mode, etc., it's one of the best at that game. As much as I appreciate Sony's strengths such as its beastly burst speed and 4k 120fps, I can't help but notice that with three different camera apps, it's still essentially forcing you into the workflow it prefers you to use, rather than just give you different options in the same manner as Vivo, and the fact that Sony's camera 2 api support for third party apps has historically not been the greatest doesn't exactly help this. With better Camera 2 Api support, you can opt for stuff like GCam, Mcpro24fps, Filmic Pro, Open Camera, etc., and get great flexibility, which is honestly something that isn't brought up nearly as much as it should be.
@marcoe14002 жыл бұрын

ooooh what's happening here! *edit; it really seems to me that Sony is sacrificing larger sensor size for more consistency and responsiveness across all three sensors, and while I'd be hard-pressed to pick Xperia over something like a Vivo or Xiaomi ultra if I wanted photos for professional use, I can see the logic in Sony's approach and can appreciate it. They are the piggy that is building their house with brick. Once they perfect their mechanical lens hardware they just might be the first smartphone manufacturer to offer one single massive sensor for all focal lengths commonly found on phones today.
@SomeGadgetGuy2 жыл бұрын

No. Sony does not want 1iv to match pro-i quality. Also larger sensor is slower, sony would need more tech to overcome this. That costs money, good money.
@peterdejong54562 жыл бұрын
Maybe not. The 2013 Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom already did that. Then came the phones with lots of dedicated sensors with each a different and fixed focal length. The intermediate focal lenghts are covered by digital zoom, but this gives different perspective and bokeh.The obvious advantage of a large continuous optical zoom is more dynamic shots when filming and perfect framing with full optical quality.

Computational photography is killing "photography" I didn't know that VIVO also got into "computational raw", all those things are garbage (EXPERT RAW, PRO RAW, RAW +) the photos look like paint and with artificial textures, I'm not against artificial intelligence for automatic photos, but that artificial intelligence is already inserted in the DNG files is anything, that is not RAW under any point of view, I do not understand the stupidity of rescaling a dng file to 12 mpx (all they do) computational photography is killing true photography and the only thing they achieve with so much AI is to move away from natural photographs making it more and more artificial, excessive sharpness and noise reduction
@SomeGadgetGuy2 жыл бұрын
Or don't use it? I don't have a lot of patience for folks who gatekeep. It's not functionally much different than bracketing a series of exposures, and when cameras perform a sustained longer exposure than necessary to reduce noise. My 7D did that 12 years ago. Phones today just do it better.
@ARMIN85552 жыл бұрын
@@SomeGadgetGuy I don't use it because it seems really crap to me, Galaxy S22 ultra, I prefer to use the raw stock a thousand times, at least it doesn't look as artificial as the expert raw files, I wish the current devices would leave an uncompressed DNG output for the user decide in post processing, what to remove and what not to remove, these files are already sharpened and with noise reduction and with a compressed output in 12mp (pixel binning) of RAW they only have the extension, I would like to test some DNG of the VIVO of the review Do you think you can share any? I also tried Apple's PRORAW and it's even worse than Samsung's expert raw, when you finish developing a dng the result is a super artificial photograph and that's something that bothers me a lot, shooting raw is supposed to avoid all the post automatic processing and to be able to have a more natural photograph.

You said it all! I couldn't agree more with your review. The thing is that if I want to shoot like I would do with a dedicated camera I would take the camera and the tripod with me and not a smartphone. So I am closer to Vivo's approach. Actually I use a Nikon Coolpix P1000 for longer focal lengths and I "steal" my wife's X80 Pro for brighter and wider images to my photographic adventures into my pocket! It's a great combo for me personally. I like the continous optical zoom of the 1 IV but there are limitations that comes out from the compact size of a smartphone. If Sony decides,one day , to put a 1" sensor to its flagship phone with their professional mentality they will create the king of the flagships forever. And no. It does not already exists. The X-Pro I does not take advantage of the whole surface of its sensor. Last but not least the stability of the X80 Pro is amazing! You don't need a tripod,even at night,even at long exposures!

I have a very very organised filed pictures from 18 years ago(when digital pictures was a new thing on cameras and mobile where rubbish in picture quality and awful in video compare to today) until now in a 8TB hard drive and another 8TB mirror the other hdd... Over 1 million pictures of my family... travel... birthdays and so on all there... I can't think of one of them that i needed A LONG EXPOSURE in pich black dark in a street or anywhere else... I know some people need take a long exposure from something in very dark but it can't be a everyday need on all pictures they take... Long exposure of a subject is ok.. but if a person usually ruins the picture as they need to stand still if it is very dark otherwise picture will be blurry, even in modern mobile phones like my previous s21 ultra they need to not to move for 3 to 5 sec if its too dark... and at the end that picture still is no where near as nice as when it is daylight or enough light... So no I'm you're answer people not walking around with their mobile phone taking long exposure pictures.. don't make it like all people walk in dark like intelligent and need a night vision camera to gather pictures in pitch dark... A professional who may really need a picture in dark maybe..(which they probably get something built taking pictures in dark ... not a mobile phone) but not normal people.. Who ever seen in youtube between all youtube videos sample of a night pictures of people in pitch dark? They usually take pictures of street and houses to show off a new phone capability in pitch dark... I mean like i said who in the right mind takes pictures of something or someone every night at pitch dark whe they can do it in the morning? I undrestand occasionally pictures in darker environments (like clubs or a party) , but i don't understand need of a picture in pitch dark in real life ...

Can you also add nokia 9 to this comparison? All of then have good raw outputs, it will be interesting to see if these new phones can beat nokia.

Best reviews/comparisons on the subject, as Always ! If I didn't get the V60 for a bargain, & if the $$ of the Xperia were + on my budget relatively, it'd be my next pick! 🤩 Vivo has been doing some amazing stuff with their recent models, & push forward what smartphones can technically achieve, in both the normy auto field (which I'm not despising at all in itself of course, I'm part of it in many occasions actually) & the the + specific / pro / performance field, where Sony is known to focus on the pro side + exclusively. It's unsurprisingly depressing how the "aVeRaGe ConSuMerzz" advocates have driving the community & market for years, by systematically despising + subtile quality, for the superficial in-your-face tricks & gimmicks, in a sort of holistic fast-food fashion. That's basically the world we seem to live in, to many extent...

The Vivo is definitely hella impressive. An actual masterclass in computational photography with some very respectable hardware to match. But I feel like Sony built a more versatile and solid pack with enormous potential if the software keeps getting updated. As an afterthought it might not quite reach the same heights as the Vivo in terms of processing, but it can come damn close while still retaining its strengths.

A fun and detailed comparison of the cameras... it's like learning while playing watching you talk about these smartphones... I really enjoy your work my friend... congratulations! Seeing your presentation of the Vivo X80, it reminded me of another comparison of it against the S22 Ultra, which took a beating... and although I didn't really like the changes from the X70 to the X80, it doesn't even compare to what Samsung did covering the S21 Ultra and bringing a device from the Note series named "S", with several downgrades... I'll explain better the reason for my indignation... This year I was very angry with the result of the flagships launched so far in terms of camera, especially with Samsung, because I have a S21 Ultra, I think it was the best in terms of photography last year, and after seeing dozens of comparisons this year, I decided to stick to comparing it with the S22 Ultra itself, and such was my disappointment to be able to prove the DOWNGRADE (the CAPADA) that Samsung made in the S22 camera in several aspects, mainly in terms of details of the photos and blurs sides, and because of that I took advantage of my channel to leave a comparison showing the INFERIORITY of the Ultra, S22 in relation to the S21, with overwhelming EVIDENCE... there and opining if you agree with what I show there in the photos or if you have a different opinion. The cover was general from the manufacturers in their flags, and with that Samsung also kept quiet waiting for the S23 Ultra. Finally, I don't know if it would be within your reach to make a comparison of the S22 Ultra with the S21 Ultra in terms of photography mainly... I believe it would be very successful if you with both devices could prove the things I showed there on my channel. A big hug and congratulations again!

Crazy good camera on that vivo can't wait to see it head 2 head against the Xiaomi 12 ultra... I'm still on the v60 and blown away by 1/1.7" sensors. These 1 inch sensors look like game changers

Hey, I would like SOME control over the default settings on my night mode, but yeah, press too select focus, slide for exposure, shoot... it's not that hard. Still gobsmacked by Sony giving us 4k120 on ALL sensors, but the small main really does hurt in low light compared to the big boys. Wonder if it's the most likely choice for shooting actual cinematics in Android right now. Vivo looks great! But with computational photography, looks like it's improvement by degrees at this point. Just have to wait for the hardware to catch up all the way to mirrorless cameras. But at this point, shouldn't they be looking to put these great new sensors in a new generation of point and sloots? Maybe along with the chips and software? Imagine a $400 point and shoot with 1/1.3" smartphone megapickles instead of the same old 1/2.3" sensor and computational stacking paired with decent optics and the ability to download aftermarket shooting apps via wifi? I'd buy one. ----- Better watch how much shade you're throwing there, you might cause a new Ice Age! Lol. Loving the snark and enthusiasm!

@@machtschnell7452 while true, "mirrorless" isn't a term we use for cameras that don't have a physical shutter. Otherwise we'd be calling all camcorders and cheap point and shoot cameras mirrorless as well.

In terms of design, I pick Sony but in terms of video and photos, I pick Vivo. Dang, who says the iphone has the best video? Look at that Vivo the photos and video are so sick! I may consider Vivo will be my next phone 💪
@RennieAsh2 жыл бұрын
The iPhone does get the macro->telephoto range correct with the most seamless video zoom. It also tends to be a little more consistent. Some phones do have better video in certain areas or on certain sensors, but then you still have silly limitations like not being able to switch lenses on the go or the quality cap varies a heap (eg using 10mp sensors so you can't record video in 4k)

The Sony 1IV has received criticism for overheating. The Vivo X80 Pro uses the same Snapdragon chip. Is the Vivo better than the Sony at dissipating the heat generated by the chip?
