No, for the simple reason you CANNOT do what you can with Contrast with them. You wouldn't be able to do for example the paintjob shown here. They can only do one thing, that all. Contrast is a multi purpose tool and extremely versatile It's an extremely flawed product, that shouldn't have been rushed into market.

The smooth application/coverage looks really good. I would like to see it over a fully zenithal highlighted miniature. Any paint can be thinned to a glaze and let the zenithal through, but how saturated the color will be important (and how much effort the desired transparency requires). Also, AIRBRUSH!!! We gotta see this through an airbrush. I know it's the very first video, but I'm quite excited and have tons of questions! :D It's really awesome to hear Vallejo worked with such a talent in the community directly to ensure a better product. Knowing you personally worked on it for over a year means a TON!! Can't wait to see more!

The longer dry time is what makes me the most excited, as I'll be more easily able to control where the paint goes. I already super thin down Contrast paints and use multiple layers to avoid splotches, so being able to actually clean up and use one layer will be a time saver.

Hi Juan thanks for showing this intro to the range. Having a choice of a matt finish is important to me and as you said if a satin/gloss finish is needed a GW product may do the trick. What impressed me most was the finish on the white shorts with the subtle variances , great for crusader knight tunics, plus the black on the beard sort of like nuln oil ie same but different. I really am looking forward to the next vid with the entire range and will be buying a few colours to test when they become available. Thanks again.

The fact you can push the paint that far with just water, is just nuts The grey/white looks fantastic. Apothecary white is one of my favourite contrast paints, and that grey looks amazing The matte finish is great too. It’s one of the reasons why I love scale 75

Great to see the matt results!! I like the Scale75 over Contrast precisely for this, but, the colors here are more intense than the ones I use with Instant Colors. This line of paints is growing really fast on me. It seems like a perfect combination of the best aspects of Contrast and the things I like on Scale75 (basically the matt finish and the longer working time). Can't wait to see the full range!! I almost rolled my eyes when I saw another company throwing their hat into the ring with a range of contrast-style paints. I sat up and took notice after that first coat of the flesh colour. The extra purple embellishments were nice and improved the look but that immediate result was really impressive. I still only use Contrast paints sparingly but I might be using that kind of paints more in the future. I'll have to wait for that review. I'd be interested to see what gaps in the Citadel range Vallejo fills.

I cant imagine a world where I don't pick up this range. I love my contrast paints, but the longer working time and water stability of these look like very useful additions. Working with water and contrast paints is a crapshoot, but these look consistent and stable.

Longer drying time is a big plus over Citadel Contrast which tend to create pooling-rings very fast and leave little time for corretion. I think its a great video as it shows that contrast colors by concept are not "slap on" - you still need to paint with them carefully to get good results (basically like a base layer that does so much more). I also really like the aknoledgement of Contrast paints without the Marketing-bla-bla that tries to sell you a new product as far superior.

I definitely prefer a more matte finish to my paint and I feel that a slower drying time for a paint that does both base and shade is a feature and not a detriment! The flesh tone has a decent mid tone quality which also is a plus for new painters and experts alike. I am interested to see the entire range and they do seem, from this video to mix together well which will be useful. I am also interested to see how they spray out of an airbrush, of course. A lot to be proud of on your work on this, Juan!

Well, technique is part of that, but you can definitely get an amazingly smooth result with them

La figura con poco que le has hecho ha quedado muy guay; aunque con tu mano no es complicado, habría que ver con la mía 🤣 Si como dices no hay problemas con la reactivación de la pintura, con el acabado chulo y mate que deja y que te deja más margen por el tiempo de secado pueden ser una muy buena alternativa si el precio está en la linea del resto de la gama vallejo 🤭. Molaría ver cómo se comporta con aero aunque supongo que alguien se encargará de eso 😋 Grande juan!!😊

I think the follow up video should be about what type of brush to use and how to clean it. I know that contrast paint wrecks bushes so how about Vallejo Express and brushes?

I use the same brush for everything and take care of it as I do with everything. Rosemary and Co series 33 size 3. No need for any special care if you follow the simple rule of NEVER LOADING YOUR BRUSH DRY

I've been waiting to see Vallejos entry into this fight. The Speedpaints have worked for me, but I have had to change my paiting style a bit as I used to do a lot of washes and manipulate said washes before they dry. That's not really viable with the AP Speedpaints. Hope to see Vallejo get theirs right (for me).

I know you've gotta be bombastic with the title, but let's be real. Army Painter speedpaints are already better overall as a line than Citadel contrast paints. That said, I'm looking forward to trying these and hope they can beat out the speedpaints in my arsenal.

No they are not, they are terrible, I really don't understand how they released them in that state. I could use Contrast Paints to get very close to what I did here no issues, I couldn't do the same with Speedpaints, not without several varnish passes and lots more time.

@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Sure, for display miniatures, I'm sure that's the case. But the name of the paint lines are "Speedpaints" and "Xpress Colors". What speedpaints has that Contrast doesn't is consistency across its entire range. And reactivation isn't an issue when you're immediately just putting an oil wash, or even skipping straight to drybrushing over a base coat of speedpaints. It's cool that these remain a useful part of your arsenal when it's time to put the real effort in, but I still think Speedpaints do the job they're advertised to do better than Contrast.

Interesting indeed. The paints being water stable is already a huge selling point, so is the matt finish. How do they behave when you dilute with gloss varnish to work better with tmm, i wonder...? I guess you can always gloss varnish over top of it.

you sold me with the flesh color. Vallejo seems to be the one kink in the supply chain that hasn't quite unclogged here in the US. All of my local stores are all waiting for replacement product.

its a bit hard to tell with these colours what the highlights will look like, whether they will pull away and create it in one step, all I can really see is a mid-tone and recess shading. Can you attest to it? I know with your 'eavy style you mostly add your own highlights afterwards.

I personally don't rely on them to make highlights, it's way too inconsistent (no matter the brand) but on sharp edges they will pull away a bit
