We really are spoilt for choice these days, Proacryl are such nice rich paints for base colours, Vallejo have every shade of colour possible, GW inks and contrasts... It's so nice to be able to pick and choose and build your own paint range that suits you exactly. When I started as a very small dumb kid all I knew was that there was either Citadel for acrylics or Humbrol for enamels and that was it.

I would think the perfect tile for contrast testing would have four corners with grooves between: a rounded shape, a flat shape, and a concave shape with sharp edges, and in the fourth corner a pattern like chain maille or scales. This would let you see how it paints on everything.

Ultramarines Blue and Frostheart works well, possibly because they're more opaque, but I've not had much luck with Asurmen Blue, Tallasar Blue or Celestium Blue. It have a special cleaner and it's amazing too.

Howdy. I think the range of colors when it comes to painting miniatures is now very impressive. What was unimaginable in my time back then is what exists today. I still have a few old paint pots from Citadel from the 90s. the color is still good 😀 but very very cool video. thank you for the comparison. I also need to expand my palette a bit. also use a balanced mix of citadel contrast and xpress colors. both have their strengths and weaknesses. I don't really like the xpress color, orc skin, as an example. I think it's too light for greenskins. and the ork skin Contrast is too comic-like for me personally after drying. I mixed plaque green and Troll green from xpress as a test and it worked. I now mostly paint in slapchop style. I really like the results. At the moment I just don't have the time with a child for a standard painting 😅 Maybe Junior will jump on the bandwagon at some point and we'll paint together. Have a nice sunday. Out of curiosity have you ever looked into professional(artist) grade paints? There are dark blues like anthraquinone, cobalt(modern stuff isnt toxic), and what not as well as yellows in brands like lascaux, golden, liquitex, holbein, etc than the scale 75 heavy bodied acrylics and have higher pigmentations as the scale 75 stuff has a CPVC too low to legally be an artist grade paint. Hobby yellows also tend to not work as well as artist grade as yellow when its mixed pigment due to how it interacts with the green and red spectrum doesnt really read as yellow and tends to get into weird problems with things like PW18, PW26, and pyrogenic silica which can cause them to clump up due to most having smaller particle sizes as a lot are dye-like than the three things mentioned which will cause them to form bad agglomerates which is why a lot tend to be clumpy and not great to work with. Artist is a legally defined grading term and not some specific style of paint. In some countries its called professional or studio.
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures5 ай бұрын

@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Love me some Michael Harding. If you haven't looked into it or have it get Gamblin manganese blue hue, its single pigment PB15:4 which is the current standard for cyan other than cobalt teal since PB17 was discontinued. No I didn't, make sure they are well shaken to ensure the pigment and medium are integrated. Some of the Xpress colours are a bit thinner than contrast and that's on purpose. As for the brush, don't buy it. It was a test and they are ridiculously expensive and not as good as one would expect

@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I thought that was the biggest colab for you, tasting the paint as you lick the brush

I love your test plaques and it's really interesting to see the paint colours displayed that way. You lost me with the metallics I'm afraid, all those dull mica based no-shine choices as the best? Some lovely colours but plastic toy finish, all of them. Clearly Vallejo has the metallic answer and it's not these, just need to then colour it with artist inks and you have the best.

I personally use the Metal Color range but it's not the most user friendly for beginners or less experienced painters, specially used with a brush and this list is intended to be the most versatile tool kit.

@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I find that quite interesting. I consider myself a beginner and Vallejo metal colour dark and copper are my absolute favourite paints to use. It just seems like as long as I don't overload the brush they just work exactly like I want paint to work. Wherever my brush touches just gets turned to metal.

I’m glad someone finally called out Dark Angels Green. It’s perhaps the worst contrast paint/speedpaint I’ve ever used.
