Yes, I do fear the concepts that the "Liberals" brought up. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to know that all scripture is good for teaching and applying. Who is to say that Paul was not speaking God's word but a well-known prophet like Elijah wasn't. This narrative gives others looking to explore Christianity as a whole further doubt into the validity of the bible. Jesus talked about keeping His children out of the kingdom of heaven, and His punishment for those people is going to be quite unpleasant. See Luke 17:2
@TheJacobiedwards
@TheJacobiedwards 3 жыл бұрын
@@tpawesomeness2526 being a Christian is an active choice. There are so many lost texts in Christians due to the denouncement of Judaism by the Protestant/Catholic church, King James, and just overall colonialism. So in other words it’s an incomplete text. That doesn’t remove the validity but the fact that you are absorbing an incomplete text, and only including the Old Testament for personal convenience goes against the core of Christianity. It’s ideology and faith not law, so there’s room for interpretation and context.

@@TheJacobiedwards What lost texts are there? You seem to fail to realize that Christians are different than Jews not from "overall colonialism" but the fact we see Jesus as God in the flesh and the Jews don't. There is a reason why KJV is used most by both Cath/Protest and by people with degrees in theology. We include the Old Testament but how does that go against core beliefs? Being Christian has laws on it. You ever heard of a thing called the 10 Commandments? There is no room for interpretation if God says sin is bad.
@tpawesomeness2526
@tpawesomeness2526 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheJacobiedwards I was not saying there was no room for interpretation. Rather it is good that we gather together and have meaningful discussions about God's word. I also meant that others outside the faith would question the validity(I never said they were right to do so). I simply meant if we as Christians decide that we are going to see one part of the Bible as an opinion and not the word of God then who are we to call the Bible God's holy word. We should take all scripture into account and let it divide right from wrong in our lives. This includes taking into account the words of God's servant Paul.

“I can’t forget what the Bible says to be more accepting of people.” But the Bible isn’t against being more accepting. Jesus literally prioritized the outcasts of society, those neglected or socially ostracized when he first came to Earth (poor, sick, disabled people, tax collectors, etc.). Jesus was criticized for his level of acceptance. If you’re going to try to spread God’s words but with discriminatory lenses and/or practices you’ll never actually accomplish what you’re trying to do and you’re actually going against what God wanted. Edit: Thank you for all the likes! Also, to anyone who’s had negative experiences with a church, I’m so sorry! There are Christians that genuinely try to unlearn the discrimination we were taught when we were younger and hopefully the younger generations of Christians become more progressive.

(33) Indeed, Allāh chose Adam and Noah and the family of Abraham and the family of ʿImrān over the worlds(34) Descendants, some of them from others. And Allāh is Hearing and Knowing. (35) [Mention, O Muḥammad], when the wife of ʿImrān said, "My Lord, indeed I have pledged to You what is in my womb, consecrated [for Your service], so accept this from me. Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing." delivered her, she said, "My Lord, I have delivered a female." And Allāh was most knowing of what she delivered, and the male is not like the female. "And I have named her Mary, and I seek refuge for her in You and [for] her descendants from Satan, the expelled [from the mercy of Allāh]." accepted her with good acceptance and caused her to grow in a good manner and put her in the care of Zechariah. Every time Zechariah entered upon her in the prayer chamber, he found with her provision. He said, "O Mary, from where is this [coming] to you?" She said, "It is from Allāh. Indeed, Allāh provides for whom He wills without account." (38) At that, Zechariah called upon his Lord, saying, "My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication." (39) So the angels called him while he was standing in prayer in the chamber, "Indeed, Allāh gives you good tidings of John, confirming a word[123] from Allāh and [who will be] honorable, abstaining [from women], and a prophet from among the righteous. (40) He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when I have reached old age and my wife is barren?" He [the angel] said, "Such is Allāh; He does what He wills. (41) He said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not [be able to] speak to the people for three days except by gesture. And remember your Lord much and exalt [Him with praise] in the evening and the morning. (42) And [mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allāh has chosen you and purified you and chosen you above the women of the worlds (43) O Mary, be devoutly obedient to your Lord and prostrate and bow with those who bow [in prayer]." (44) That is from the news of the unseen which We reveal to you, [O Muḥammad]. And you were not with them when they cast their pens[124] as to which of them should be responsible for Mary. Nor were you with them when they disputed. (45) [And mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allāh gives you good tidings of a word[125] from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary - distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near [to Allāh]. (46) He will speak to the people in the cradle and in maturity and will be of the righteous." (47) She said, "My Lord, how will I have a child when no man has touched me?" [The angel] said, "Such is Allāh; He creates what He wills. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, 'Be,' and it is. (48) And He will teach him writing and wisdom[126] and the Torah and the Gospel messenger to the Children of Israel, [who will say], 'Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord in that I design for you from clay [that which is] like the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird by permission of Allāh. And I cure the blind [from birth] and the leper, and I give life to the dead - by permission of Allāh. And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Indeed in that is a sign for you, if you are believers. (50) And [I have come] confirming what was before me of the Torah and to make lawful for you some of what was forbidden to you. And I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, so fear Allāh and obey me. (51) Indeed, Allāh is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is the straight path.'" (52) But when Jesus felt [persistence in] disbelief from them, he said, "Who are my supporters for [the cause of] Allāh?" The disciples said, "We are supporters for Allāh. We have believed in Allāh and testify that we are Muslims [submitting to Him]. (53) Our Lord, we have believed in what You revealed and have followed the messenger [i.e., Jesus], so register us among the witnesses [to truth]." (54) And they [i.e., the disbelievers] planned, but Allāh planned. And Allāh is the best of planners. Allāh said, "O Jesus, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself and purify [i.e., free] you from those who disbelieve and make those who follow you [in submission to Allāh alone] superior to those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, and I will judge between you concerning that in which you used to differ. (56) And as for those who disbelieved, I will punish them with a severe punishment in this world and the Hereafter, and they will have no helpers

That said, shouldn't the threat of hell be eliminated completely then? I mean jesus died in the bible for sins to be forgiven so the entire concept of hell should have been done away with in the new testament and then technically god doesn't believe in punishing the sinners if they're rewarded for JUST believing in him then? And is he really all powerful if he allows sin to happen? Or is the devil his accomplice in that regard? @@ange949 I agree with you that religion simply asks for too much and offers too little in return, and I’ve asked myself the “why does hell even exist?” question many times, but to be completely fair on one thing here, “allowing sin to happen” is a simplified view on how that works. What Christians believe is, God imbued everyone with free will, to make our own mistakes. This is a major reason they’re all pro God and this is one part of the religion I like. I don’t so much like how the suffering of a given sin isn’t mitigated for the benefit of the innocent and the promise of the sweet relief of the pearly gates is all the reassurance humans are meant to be afforded, but the actual system for sinning and sinners themselves does make a sort of air tight sense. Again, except the hell thing you pointed out. If damnation can be bypassed as simply as believing in Christ, it’s sort of rendered null and void isn’t it? The only reason it’d be kept around is to punish nonbelievers such as ourselves, or more accurately I guess, anyone who doesn’t accept God and Jesus and whatever else into their hearts upon their death. I can’t help but think that’s like, way harsh? But what do I know? I’m a filthy heathen.

Really what you're gonna be having here is a bunch of incredibly wise philosophical discussion, my guess is that if the Christian is progressive he will probably be open to thought. The form of slavery referred to in The Bible wasn’t the kind you enter unwillingly. It was the last and only protection from destitution many people had. They often would suffer some misfortune and get hired for x amount of time until they were sorted. It was actually closer to a labor-based social protection program than chattel slavery.

You are, sadly... less than fully honest, in several respects, @juliuspleaser4675 . Many read, Leviticus 25:46... And do not come to the same conclusions that you do, on this topic so far. Same, for Exodus 21:20. Words like 'bequeath' and 'for life', begin to give some potential clues, for example.

@@poocrayon4588 every christian warps christianity to what their values are. Faith doesn’t inform character, it’s the other way around, no matter the political inclination. It’s impossible to reconcile abrahamic religions with modern day society. Otherwise one look at the old testament would go against everything both liberals and conservatives and everyone in between believe in. The most “legit conception” of christianity is not the version we preach today and there’s a reason for that - when was the last time you’ve seen someone living by the literal written values? Where God condoned slavery, concubinage, forced miscarriage for adulterers? Your point is moot.
