As a medical student, I was taught that are differences between biological sex and gender. My school teaches us how to approach transgender health, but at the same time, if you are a trans woman, for example, you are still more likely to get lung cancer and colon cancer like a biological male. Changing your gender does not change your sex chromosomes. Hence, we are taught to approach treatment based on biological sex in certain cases and gender in other cases. The same thing definitely applies to sports as well. It's important to have equality and recognize someone by their gender. But regardless of gender, a person's biological sex will also play a huge role in their strength as well as the medical problems they are more likely to face.

"sports should be gender neutral" No, just no. At elite levels, women would rarely win. In some sports, never, in others, little and in very very few sports, yes. Agreeing with this is just naïve and woke for the sake of being woke. If you want to do mixed, fine, like team racing (equal men, equal women), archery, fine. But, for example, contact sports where size is important, no, it just wont work.

They kept saying “what about height differences” or “some women are naturally stronger than others” as an excuse to say that trans should be able to compete with women. The problem with that is if you’re using the “some people are just naturally stronger than others, and they should still be able to compete with each other” argument, than by that logic there is no reason for men’s and women’s sports at all. They should all compete against one another. And here lies the problem: women would never be successful at sports again. There’s more than just one or two things different with men and women physically. Men have more natural muscle, more fast twitch muscle fibers, higher bone density, hips more developed for movement, men’s brains are even wired to be more physically coordinated. Idk why we act like the only issue is “hormones” like it’s a thing where you can fix that and they are just the same as women. There are real biological differences between the sexes and women deserve the right to be successful in sport without men taking that away from them

As an Endocrinologist (a doctor that deals with hormones) I can unequivocally say that trans women do have a distinct advantage. Admittedly it is less if they transition before puberty but still a very serious one. This in a sense allows them to utilize more of the performance benefits of testosterone while having less of it.

@khybersen48222 жыл бұрын
Do you have any sources on why trans women would have higher free testosterone levels than cis women even if their total testosterone levels are the same? Trans women usually have significantly higher levels of sex hormone binding globule because they often have supraphysiological levels of estradiol from hrt, and that would lead to lower free testosterone percentages than non pregnant cis women. Also, trans women who have had orchiectomies or vaginoplasties would have significantly lower levels of total testosterone than cis women, because cis women still produce testosterone in their ovaries and post-op trans women only from their adrenal glands. Would this not be a significant disadvantage? Furthermore, cis women’s androgen receptors are usually more sensitive than trans women’s.

7:38 - Did she just say that going through years of male puberty is the same as having a protein drink at the gym? If I had gender dysphoria, I would probably find myself denying differences between myself and the gender that I’m transitioning to, and I’m not going to pretend that I know how sucky it is. But you have to realize that it’s harmful to do so in the process, especially in certain contexts like receiving health care and sports where you can your biological advantages can severely harm someone. I wanted touch on that too, where she says at 7:05 where there is a danger that you’re possibly “outing” someone, and while I don’t want to downplay any of that, but there is a danger that your biological advantages could actually brutalize cisgender women. I don’t remember their names, but there was a boxing match between a cisgender woman and a transgender woman that made the news. The transgender woman won rather quickly, and the cisgender woman had several skull fractures. It would be largely inhumane to not consider what your biological advantages can do to someone in certain sports. That’s all I have to say, I hope I didn’t offend anybody, because I really do sympathize with both sides, and I would like for a solution to be figured out that doesn’t A) put cisgender women in physical danger and respects their long fought for right to have women’s sports and B) doesn’t make transgender people feel like they’ve been deprived of their right to play a sport. i’ve participated in coed sports before and they generally have rules to combat that. like in volleyball two guys couldnt be next to eachother on the court. so the sport would have rules to not let the team be playing all one gender which means that wouldnt happen.

Addressing the wrestler’s point about Women in MMA training along side men because it makes them better atheletes, training is not nearly the same as competition. The way you get better is by going against people who are better but in the same tier as you. Not someone who would completely hand ur ass. In training, people can hold back in order to help you improve as an athlete but in competition they will do their best to win and there will no learning experience for the smaller athelete.

im trans. i hold more conservative views on gender and have always considered biological sex to be relevant in sports and medical care. its not transphobic to say that. if anythings it’s transphobic to DENY the real advantages that transwomen do have. transmen also have a disadvantage. get over it
@crazypyp58712 жыл бұрын
Isn't it also transphobic to DENY trans people from an entire group of sports? People are also forgetting the fact that now any women, trans or not, who excels at a sport is labeled trans and needs a background check on them. People have also been checking the genitals of others in school to make sure they are cisgender. How about you get over yourself. Just cuz you don't like trans people competing in sports doesn't mean they shouldn't.
@iasql2 жыл бұрын
@@crazypyp5871 the whole reason for creating different categories for men and women sports was to include females in top level sports, because they don't have any chance in competing with males. The whole point was to separate on sex so that we can have FAIR competitions. Thats the whole point of the separation. This was done at a time when the word men meant cis-men and women meant cis-women. Since then our society and language has evolved, and now we have trans athletes that don't fall in any of the categories and are not included in sports. We should create new category for them so that they can also be included in sports, without destroying the women divisions and excluding females from top level sports.

I definetly noticed hesitancy with the Cis people when speaking. This topic is hard to talk about because you don't want to come off as transphobic but at the same time the idea of letting trans women compete with ciswomen does seem unfair to the cis women as biological males are born with biological advantages that can't be undone with hormone therapy. I.e bone density, lung size etc as they mentioned

I would think ignoring gender or having gender neutral schools would be like when people try to say they ignore skin color. You don’t have to ignore something to be nice. You can notice there is a difference and also be respectful and celebrate the differences and similarities. Saying we are are human and I don’t “see” gender or I don’t “see” race doesn’t give a chance to celebrate the positives. You can’t celebrate black culture and their achievements if you say you don’t even notice they are black the same way you can’t celebrate women’s achievements and their power if you don’t acknowledge they are female. I fully support trans people but we can notice their differences and celebrate it we don’t have to act like there are no differences when there is.
@SxdHxrmony3 жыл бұрын
I believe the difference here is that many trans people (that I know personally, not sure about others) would prefer to just be addressed as male or female. If they feel like it (or if you get to know them) then they would tell you they're trans. They don't necessarily want to be celebrated or identified right away as a trans person. Most of them simply believe they're born as the wrong gender. Knowing how my friends feel, its hard to have an opinion on how we recognize and celebrate trans success. Also I am not sure what gender neutral schools are so I'm going to look into that, I'm assuming it's (in part) where anyone can try out for any sports teams?

I’m curious why you didn’t add this sentence in your post… “The same way you can’t celebrate white’s achievements if you don’t acknowledge they’re white.”

I actually love this take. Exactly why so called "colorblind" people who say they don't see color are so much in the wrong. Color exists. And ignoring the differences between communities ignores the history of each one which is harmful
@andrewkolandjian94493 жыл бұрын
Well race is something that is not nearly as relevant genetically speaking. Many people have multiple races, and specific culture is usually tied to region. Sex is something that's integral to society and how we function, without both, there would be no society. Therefore I would argue its more reasonable to recognize differences between male and female.
