@thesingleandleastlonely10 ай бұрын
Yeah the problem is that everyone believes they questions and criticize their own group. To actually know if you do you have to do a lot of thinking. What I do is I usually just ask myself "would I still believe this if X did it instead of Y? or in other words (lets say im a liberal) "I think people having free speech except calling to violence is okay no matter what. Would I still be okay with it if a conservative person used their free speech to spread their ideology, which is contrary to mine?" or something like that. Just talking to people that disagree with you a lot and trying to think logically helps in general

@zaprct4 ай бұрын
@@kellymichelley it would cover the guests and the producers equally. I referenced Blossom because what she did on the trans libs vs conservative episode was all ‘click bait’ and ‘rage bait’ which was her pulling out dozens of theatrical, melodramatic reactions and making most of the episode all about her “as a black, trans woman” which was the line she would haw to silence all discussion. You can see how much attention the division and theatrics of that episode worked to generate one of their highest viewcounts
@kellymichelley4 ай бұрын
@@zaprct Oh ok, I'd thought click bait was just something that gets people to click on a video to watch it, such as a compelling thumbnail or video title. Maybe that phrase has evolved to encompass more than that, which I wouldn't be aware of since I'm so out of the loop these days. But how do people know what the content of the video is, before they watch it? Apparently they do, if the video has one of their highest view counts; I just don't understand how.

If I could magically remove a common political saying from circulation, "you can't yell "fire!" in a crowded theater" would be high on the list. Not only does it originate with Justice Holmes justifying jailing anti-conscription activists, but it also removes the original qualifiers of falsely claiming fire and causing a panic, i.e. the speech is not a crime by itself, it's the damage the reaction causes that the false shouter is responsible for. The way the phrase is used is basically "Hey, we accept some speech restrictions, so why not some more?" People being liable for direct physical harm they willfully incite is nothing like punishing people for offensive speech.

Here is the problem with the "you can just go to another platform" argument that the "public square" counter should always directly and explicitly address: I can say from personal experience, when you ban someone from a mainstream social media site, they don't just go away. People don't just leave the internet. What happens is they will go find somewhere that will allow them, which will absolutely be a radicalizing catalyst in their mindset.. Telling millions of Americans "just go to another platform" is how you strengthen Truth Social and Rumble and 4chan.

As a conservative this is what I realized after talking to my liberal friends. In politics no one is on your side. Democrats or Republican it doesn't matter, neither have your best interest in mind. Behind closed doors they both have the same agenda, maintaining their power. Looking back on the way our leaders in Congress and the House act during each presidency shows you who they really are. When Democrats have all the power all the Republican leaders talk about is what they want to do to fix our issues but they can't because Democrats are stopping them. Yet when the time comes for them to hold all the power they do nothing and it happens on both sides. It's just a game to them and as long as they keep their seat in office they win.

I think part of being an adult is not letting your emotions control you, and not letting "sticks and stones break your bones" Yes, people say hurtful things. Yes, it's ok to feel hurt by the things people say. I do not think people should be going around intentionally hurting other people. But part of growing up and being an adult is learning to navigate when people don't like you. Learning to have compassion for people you don't like or who don't like you. These lessons make YOU stronger and help YOU grow. Everyone is at different points in their life journey. You can't FORCE people to speak to you a certain way. But you do have control over yourself and you can control how you respond to situations and words you don't like hearing, and over time those words you don't like hearing... you have the ability to just brush them off and they no longer hurt you. This is why I oppose rewriting definitions of words. We curb our speech around children to protect them because their brains aren't fully developed. If we treat adults like children, they will never grow up.
