Retired US Army Special Forces Team Sergeant (Green Beret) here, you are the expert in what you do. I was an expert in other areas, perhaps I can give you some gentle advice from 22 years of service and 2 combat tours. You trained Christine and she has become an expert in her own right. You need to take into account the better she gets the better you are getting. In other words, you are both improving but YOU are always going to have more experience. Like climbing a mountain, the person you trained is right behind you and doing great BUT they don't have all the parameters down pat. Weather, snow conditions, type of rock, equipment etc etc. It's even harder when this is someone you love. When you recognize this then you can make a plan. Now you are doing high risk stuff so s*** happens, but you can mitigate. No pilot of an airplane worth their salt would take off without going through their checklist. Sit down and write every possible contingency that can happen. Then have at least an A and B plan with preferably a C to. Lets take the shark incident where Christine is getting dragged down. What kind of knife, serrated edge to cut line, does it have a wrist loop, WHAT if she drops it, does she have a secondary? Has she ever practiced getting the secondary out? Again, you are the expert, you need to be the one to sit down and think through every possible scenario. Rough water, hard to see a bobbing head, getting dark voice torn away by the wind, whistle, light stick, flare...I don't know but you do I guarantee it. Lastly, I will say it always amazes me that KZbinrs can come up with a story and video that outshines programs with millions in budgets and a team of writers/editors etc! Fantastic job! I sincerely hope I didn't step on your toes here Judah, the male ego can be a deadly disease, but I learned long ago to shed that BS. I used to tell my Team that I don't care if we learn something from a Girl Scout! De Oppresso Liber

I understand that sharks are part of the ecosystem and will typically leave you alone, but Bulls in particular are unpredictable in the best circumstances! Add a huge wounded red snapper in your arms and HELL no!

This is definitely a reminder to have a heavy-duty medical kit and not the standard off-the-shelf ones, because the injury could have been worse. I don't leave the house without at least a small one with quickclot, chest seals, and a tourniquet. If I'm on a boat, I have a bigger kit with that and then some. Training is super important too! I have been trained in wilderness first-aid for years, and last week I had to use a tourniquet to stop massive bleeding on a boat prop victim during a scuba trip. Stay safe everyone, and be prepared.

Glad everyone is ok. Just a bit of advice. I'm not much of a fisherman but I've spent a huge amount of time waterskiing and wakeboarding. Mostly wakeboarding. When picking people back up "Neutral" is not good enough. Always turn the motor off. Too many possibilities for people to get hurt.
@edstimator12 жыл бұрын
Wholeheartedly agree with this. Neutral is not safe. Anything could happen. Someone could bump the throttle and a limb is lost. Much better to be safe and turn the motor off.
@cfoskeeter2 жыл бұрын
Spot on, those were my thoughts exactly. I grew up water skiing and we always shut the motor off before allowing anyone anywhere near the back of the boat and the outboard motor.

Hey from Myrtle Beach. Ya, I had a bad experience with tubing too pulling my son and a friend. They swung around and collided with a channel marker. The ocean was too rough and we were in the intercostal. For a second I thought I killed them. I swung the boat around and was ready to jump into rescue mode. Got back to them and they are both laughing. My son saw it coming and had pushed off right before impact and the tube went sideways acting as an air bag between her and the marker. My god, it still sends chills down my spine thinking about it. That was about 3 years ago, and the tube has been collecting dust ever since. Glad Christine is fine. Great video, one of your best!

By the way, I've been boating since I was 16 and always switch off engine to collect skier etc. I also turn engine (switched off), like you did, to serve as a step. Also sea makes our skin softer and becomes more prone to scratching and cutting. That was a big gash on Christine's thigh!
@lourens3732 жыл бұрын
what we have had happen was with the engine off someone stepped on the prop, maybe mistaken it for the lower part of the gearbox to help themselves in to the boat and with South African boats always running in sand in shallow water the prop gets very sharp edges and it made a proper cut in this guys foot..
