Christianity was never a threat to India, until the European invasion happened. Christians lived peacefully in India. Most of Indians think that Christianity is a European religion. It is not. It's a continuity of Judaism, originated in Israel by the teachings of Jesus Christ (Yeshua in Hebrew) who was a JEWISH man. Many Indians converted to Christianity thinking that they might upscale their lives like Europeans and escape casteist persecution by the upper caste of Brahmins but things went a different way.

Didn't know Sassoon was Jewish until I saw this! He donated heavily for a hospital to be built in the city of Pune, Maharashtra in 1867... The Sasson Hospital is not only one of the oldest modern medicine hospital in Pune but also a city landmark and currently run by the govt of Maharashtra.... As an Indian I had no idea about Jewish persecution other than Hitler's crimes, and I can assure in India nobody will face persecution(though we have baggage of unfair treatment towards a certain section during the pre modern era, where a few crooks decided to redefine a fluidic "caste system" into rigid sections) or hatred as long as they keep religion to themselves and not force others into conversion.
@taitreyarr2715
@taitreyarr2715 3 жыл бұрын
The guys that redefined the fluidic Jati system into a rigid "caste" system were the British who enacted caste based laws in 1860. Please note caste is a colonial term with no equivalent word in any Indian language. The British Indian census of 1850 force fitted all Indians into a British defined "Caste system" . Please google "Census in Colonial India and the Birth of Caste", a paper published in EPW that best describes this.

My research tells me that historically India had a more egalitarian society with less oppression, relative to other countries and civilizations. Note the following patterns of ancient Indian history upto 13th century. (1) Wars were fought between royalty and armies but did not impact other sections of society. There are very few records of killing of civilians, destruction of farmland etc. (2) There were no revolts from agrarian sections of society, no slave revolts such as in Rome or China (3) There was no slavery in India (4) 80% of all people were engaged in farming, rest in trades, which made for an egalitarian society as land ownership was was widespread (5) Every village had a school and right upto the 1840 so called Shudras (they did not call themselves that) were 60 to 80% of students. Refer British survey of 1840. (6) Huge number of kings including the Mauryas, Rajputs, Marathas came from the lay people and not from royal or kshatriya lineages.

Thank you so much for a superbly presented history of Jews in India. As an Indian, I feel privileged and proud to have the Jews as an inseparable part of our culture, people and our blood. After more than 2,500 years they are as much Indian as anyone else in this land. The Jews in India have been exceptional. Never asking for special status, no reservations in business opportunities, jobs, education, in government or politics as a minority. Instead they lived as Indians, contributed, excelled and even bled for us. We have had Admiral Samson who was FOCIF (Flag Officer Commanding Indian Fleet), whose daughter Leela Samson is an accomplished dancer & instructor of the Indian classical dance style of Bharatanatyam and known worldwide for the same. Major General Jacob was the operational field commander of Indian Army forces who fought against the Pakistan Army in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). He forced Lt.General Niazi the commander of Pakistani forces in East Pakistan (Uncle of the current Pakistani Prime Minister) to surrender thus saving much unnecessary bloodshed. The surrender of 93,000 Pakistani troops to Indian forces is the largest single surrender of troops (outside of and after WW2). In addition there are several well known persons of the Jewish faith in Bollywood, in arts, commerce, science and government and elsewhere. They have been a blessing and asset to us. It is a sad fact that in a nation of 1.4 Billion people, a community of less than 30,000 is not as well known as they should be and, their achievements and contributions barely known or acknowledged. India has absorbed and openly welcomed countless communities of persecuted peoples from different parts of the world since time immemorial. The BAHAI's and Zoroastrians from Persia, Jews from Baghdad and other places, even small communities of Armenians, Vietnamese, Cambodians, Chinese (fleeing the Maoists) and even persecuted Shia Muslims by the millions. More recently Tibetans have made their homes in India and even have a Government in exile in India. Save for the fact that India is not a signatory to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), it is not far from fact to state that in the last 100 years India has hosted one of the largest number of refugees any where in the world. This population is different from those stated earlier, who settled in the Indian sub-continent several centuries ago like the Jews and, for all purposes are now completely assimilated into the main stream population, but have maintained their distinct culture, language, religious beliefs and language alive by adapting, accepting, sharing themselves. In India, with over 1800 languages spoken by more than 10,000 people each, over 5800 dialects and dozens of unique scripts, yet another language and script - Hebrew - was never an issue! I wish all Jews 'Shalom' and send each of you blessings, greetings and wishes for a long and prosperous life!

The Bene Israeli community too speaks Marathi (apparently referred as Judeo-Marathi but I'm not sure if its too different). Most I think went to Israel when the State of Israel was formed & many still speak Marathi. Being Marathi myself it's something that intrigues me as I too see them as my people due to being fellow Marathis. Although I've also read that apparently the younger generation speaks less Marathi in Israel which has worried the older generation a bit. There's also an old video (part of some series on lost tribes of Israel) on youtube about the Bene Israel community. It showed some also came back to their ancestral village which is in Kokan region of Maharashtra & they don't seem to face any problems with muslims of their village either.

@@LordJagd actually people are not aware of it and it's not even in the textbook, one has to look into 11th, 12th class history ncert textbooks or over internet. During the time of ashoka, bhuddism flourished in India and he sent monks all over world to spread teaching of bhuddism and it was all happening around 250-150 BC and that's how bhuddism spread to most of south Asia and east asia countries even present day afganistan was once bhuddist (also look for 2000 yr old BHUDDA statue found in afganistan which Taliban destroyed in late nineties) and they (afgan,Iran) become islamic state after caliphate and foreign invasion, similar things happened in present day north India bhuddist people because of their non violence teaching and beliefs didn't fight back many were converted many were killed, now I have given you direction please make your opinion after looking into these facts and historical events 🙂

@@rolaE4449 Thank you for this information, I am aware of Buddhism's early history and its massive prevalence from Afghanistan and the Tarim Basin to Northern India, and later across into what is now Myanmar and Thailand. But I was always surprised at how the history of major Indian art seems to begin with elaborate Buddhist sculptures and it isn't until much later that we get similarly elaborate Hindu sculpture, around 1000 years after the life of the Buddha. Do you think this suggests a massive prevalence of Buddhism over Hinduism for this time in history?
@rolaE4449

@@LordJagd Bear with me, it's going to be long one. -Hinduism, Bhuddism , Jainism,Sikhism are often described a branches of a tree "SANATAN DHARMA" whose basic value is how you live your life and this -ism's are different way.(That's why, I don't actually believe in religions) - Hinduism have seen major changes in it's culture somewhere around 50BC to 100 AD. Roughly Before 50 BC it is termed as VEDIC culture and later one as PURANIC culture. -There were no idols worshipping in Vedic time yagya and sacrifice were performed (having a principle) but in puranic time there are idols with characteristics, various puranic stories and TEMPLES* . - why it changed ? Well, Scholars believes it is because of many factors and can't be sure about it but majors of these are 1) Interaction with Bhramans of south India 2) Tension between Hinduism and Buddhism tradition 3) Greek philosopher influence in Indian society Now, 2nd point is what we are interested in and keeping it on surface level - Buddhism was about rejecting desire, meditation,to look internal and hinduism was about embracing desire, in external world, celebrating Life and that is the relationship, the tension between the two is the value of desire or not desire and there are also so many layers along side it and one have to look deeply. - Desire is the cause of suffering in Buddhism but in Hinduism, they deal with desire in different way and they used TEMPLE to explain in different way. How? - See there was no concept of temple in Hinduism. TEMPLE is the major impact of Bhuddism on Hinduism.( Sculpture are secondary,but temples are primarily) - Buddha says everything is impermanent and to leave everything behind but his followers made stupa. They put a pile of mud on his relics and put a flag. They built a hall around it known as CHAIYTA and keep a buddha idol and first time PARIKARMA was done here which is circling around the stupa.VIHARA was established, i.e people start living around stupa. - Hinduism adopted all this same thing, in different way. Stupa was the relics of Buddha which was interpreted as death so they say our centre will be DEULA or GARBH(womb) GRAH (home or space) and shaped it like women uterus, female form is used interpreted as life giving. Similarly they made a hall termed MANDAPA and AGRAHAR was established i.e people started living around it. - Temple acted as more like a co-operative society, everyone has to participate in order to make temple possible.Its purpose was to create social structure.in hindu temple you don't go to prey you go to see "DARSHAN" the rituals of celebration of life in a rhythmic & systematic way. Rituals are not meant for deity,people see and adapts those things in their life. - In Buddhism, buddha in shown in monk cloths, he is meditating, he had left his family but in Hindu temple dieties are shown various forms some as married some as hermit. Ritual are mostly same as our daily lifestyle, fedding deity 3 times a day, daily dressing of deity and so many others things. - On sculpture, they have evolved time to time. Greeks also had impact. Standing buddha statue was directly Greeks influence and as the places changes sculpture forms changes.
@LordJagd
@LordJagd 3 жыл бұрын
@@rolaE4449 What an incredible reply. I never thought of how temples simply weren't used in Vedic society, so temples being a Buddhist invention that later influenced Hinduism makes total sense! So it seems like the temples of Buddhism had very specific meaning behind them, but when the Hindu communities began building temples too they didn't have the same meaning behind it, so they invented their own, is that right? I've noticed the clear difference between the Vedic/Upanishadic culture and the later Puranic culture, changing around 50BC to 100 AD date. You can even see in the Mahabharata all the Puranic interpolations into an otherwise Vedic/Upanishadic story! I remember reading once that when the priestly elite of India switched from Buddhist monks to Hindu brahmins that is when the Puranic culture began, and the caste system that was already in place became re-purposed by the brahmins as a way of controlling the population and keeping themselves on top. Is this true? Puranic stories sort of annoy me, to be honest haha. The Vedic texts are extremely ancient mythos, comparable to many other most ancient myths across the world, and the Upanishads are clearly in the same deep "world of thought" that gave rise to Buddhism and Jainism. But then the Puranas come along with new myths, but ones that aren't natural or "pragmatic" like those of the Vedas. The Puranas seem much more exaggerated, often ridiculous, perhaps because the brahmins wanted to dazzle their communities and make it seem like they have this amazing knowledge, when really its all silly exaggerations! Would you say things like Advaita Vedanta are things returning to the simple and deep thought of the Upanishads?

Some of the Sassons eventually settled in Heytesbury near Warminster. Seigfred Sasson was a famous first world war poet ..His father was part of a Jewish merchant family, originally from Iran and India, and his mother part of.... .. George Sasson was the last surviving Sasson who passed away a few years ago. "In September 1931, Sassoon rented Fitz House, Teffont Magna, Wiltshire, and began to live there.[21] In December 1933, he married Hester Gatty (daughter of Stephen Herbert Gatty), who was many years his junior. The marriage led to the birth of a child, something Sassoon had purportedly craved for a long time. Siegfried's son, George Sassoon (1936-2006), became a scientist, linguist, and author, and was adored by Siegfried, who wrote several poems addressed to him. Siegfried's marriage broke down after the Second World War, with Sassoon apparently unable to find a compromise between the solitude he enjoyed and the companionship he craved. Separated from his wife in 1945, Sassoon lived in seclusion at Heytesbury in Wiltshire, although he maintained contact with a circle which included E M Forster and J R Ackerley. One of his closest friends was the cricketer Dennis Silk who later became Warden (headmaster) of Radley College. He also formed a close friendship with Vivien Hancock, then headmistress of Greenways School at Ashton Gifford, where his son George was a pupil. The relationship provoked Hester to make strong accusations against Hancock, who responded with the threat of legal action.[22]

That means Indian culture was spreaded and flourished all over the world much before the inception of Abrahmic religions. Indian rich civilization, culture and history much ancient than what the western historians assume about India.

The 'idols ' are representative/personifications of the attributes of the Creative Force of the Universe, time & space beyond human understanding beyond even Brahma. Any object , image or person or even a pile of stones can be venerated & used as a way into meditation & spiritual (Dharmic) understanding. I respect the wisdom embedded in this ancient system whilst not following this particular practise because I can fortunately switch off from my surroundings if I need to.

Idol worshippers embraced everybody unlike people who killed for the one true one.

Killing people in the name of god is the most lowliest and stupidest thing,the idol worshipping Indians know that from time immemorial.Indians value everyone based on their behaviour,merit and actions not based on their mode of worship.
