Buy the deluxe version. The five 5 additional tracks are pretty good, the best being Never Forget. That song should have been the closer on Redeemer. It's probably one of the best, if not the best, ballad Priest has ever written and will bring a tear to any metal fan's eye.

My best Judas Priest memory is the concert I went to in 1984 in Madison Square Garden. This was the concert that got them band for life from MSG. It is something I will never ever forget and probably something that the likes will never be seen again anywhere. It was the first concert I ever went to. I was 17 years old. We had great seats. The problem was there were m'80's and blockbusters blowing up right at our feet because they were being thrown from above. They ripped every single seat cushion out of every seat. It appeared to be snowing seat cushions. In some cases they ripped out the entire metal seat out of the concrete. There were fights every 10 feet. Security could not control anything. And Priest just kept on going with m'80s blowing up all around them. Truly amazing.

First time I ever listened to priest I was seven and I was going to school and my dad put in British steel and played breaking the law and they were in my mind an Instant classic

Greatest memory of Priest was when I was playing Pokemon Firered, 8 years ago, and I heard Breaking The Law followed by You've Got Another Thing Coming on the radio. Blew my friggin mind. Aside from that being my first taste of anything metal, hearing Painkiller for the first time and the high-sustained vocal at the end......sold Priest to me forever. By far my favorite metal band. Halls of Valhalla and Cold Blooded are the two that I enjoyed the most. Especially HoV. I didn't know that Rob could still use his voice in that way and it put a gigantic smile on my face.

2014, and The Priest is back! There's just too many highlights to mention, really, but Defenders tour with the Metallion stage, playing Heavy Duty/ Defenders and the crowd chanting the closer, truly a spine tingling moment. Metal Gods, indeed!

I am a musician and a music lover-- not just metal. I love the new album. I don't think there's a weak point anywhere on it. Creativity is a funny thing in that whatever you chose to create-- whether it is music, a painting, a book-- nothing is completely original. There is always some influence in there somewhere and if you listen hard enough you will find it. All the popular bands of that era-- Priest, Maiden, Kiss, Sabbath, and many others all will tell you that the Beatles were one of their biggest influences. It's just like having kids.

Being a Judas Priest fan for over 20 years(I am trying to be boringly repetitive like my comment on the new Fates Warning and the new Megadeth album), I liked this album as much as the 1997 "Jugulator" album & find it a very worthy work that comes from a band that has created milestone albums that crafted what Heavy Metal is today & is being around for nearly half a century!!! .....So this is my Judas Priest's discography review: Rocka Rolla ('74): 8 Sad Wings Of Destiny ('76): 10 Sin After Sin ('77): 10 Stained Class ('78): 10 Killing Machine ('79): 10 British Steel ('80): 10 Point Of Entry ('81): 7 Screaming For Vengeance ('82): 10 Defenders Of The Faith ('84): 10 Turbo ('86): 9,5 Ram It Down ('88): 8 Painkiller ('90): 10 Jugulator ('97): 8,5 Demolition ('01): 6 Angel Of Retribution ('05): 9 Nostradamus ('08): 9,5 Redeemer Of Souls ('14): 8,5

I think this album is really killer. They experimented a lot and it turned out really good for them. The title track is really catchy, even though Rob didn't do the high screams there (the title track), it's perfect the way it is. The scream on Halls of Valhalla truly blew me away. This is an album which Priest have worked really hard on and they did an outstanding job, I personally think it couldn't get any better, made with care and passion. The only track that didn't impress me was March of the Damned - it was an interesting thing that Priest tried to do a simple metal song but it just didn't appeal to me...oh well, a hundred people and a hundred musical tastes. Call me naive but I think this album will go down in history. Saw them live a month ago for the second time and they kicked ass yet again - brutal and loud with great sound quality, they just don't fuck around.

Judas Priest brought me into the fold of heavy metal and helped spark my music taste in general, so I have a lot to thank them for as far as that goes. As soon as I found out Redeemer of Souls was out, I bought it and proceeded to nearly blow out my car's speakers with it. To me, it was a roller coaster ride of really really awesome songs and then some not so good songs. But I agree, "Dragonaut", "Halls of Valhalla", and "The Sword of Democles" rank as some of my favorites on the album. It just felt amazing to know that Judas Priest is not down and out and that they have some new blood to keep them relevant. And Rob can still scream better than 99.5% of the metal artists out there.

I listened to the album twice before watching your review and I definitely agree...somewhat. Halls of Valhalla and Sword of Damocles are great. Metalizer and Down in Flames are decent but arguably forgettable. Hell & Back however, I am SHOCKED you find forgettable. One of the best songs on the album. The catchiness and fist pumping beat harkens back to classics such as Breaking the Law and Living After Midnight. Awesome song. Oh and Battle Cry is all kinds of Painkiller awesomeness. Crossfire gave me some Sin after Sin vibe and the last track Beginning of the End is definitely Sad Wings of Destiny inspired. All in all, its a great album that is full of nostalgia. Like you said, it probably isn't an instant classic, but it's crazy fun.

I think the album sounds tired. Nostradamus was an incredible album and I had hoped they would continue the symphonic elements and experiment a bit more with it rather than reverting back to a tried and tested sound. I had hoped in the final years they would evolve themselves

@agentbuckwall280610 жыл бұрын
Aaron Manderscheid I think I will be very disappointed if they give us "Painkiller 2". Might as well just go the Metallica route; Painkiller and RE-Painkiller. I'd rather them keep making more original stuff than just "people like Painkiller, so let's just make another Painkiller."
@DeadShred910 жыл бұрын
Matt Kenney You say Painkiller 2 I said that because thats what other fans have said, not my personal opinion? I liked it more than I was expecting. Since there is a new member I thought they might go into the more "90's" Judas Priest which I overall didn't care for so I was glad it wasn't. Seems more in the vein of the Classic material. It's a long album and I agree that some songs seems like fillers but the five tracks on the bonus-disc makes up for it. I am very happy with me buying the album and I feel this is the best the done in a long time. And I actually enjoy most albums quite much.

I share similiar thoughts as the reviewer. The first six songs are all good with Valhalla as the standout. I could see some of these live working pretty well. Hell and back thru metalizer should have been shelved IMO. The mix is not great but the riffs are still classic Priest. I have been listening to a lot of different new stuff like Trivium, Hell Yeah, etc....and it's Priest's songs like March of the Damned that are stuck in my brain.....good stuff, for Christ's sake Glenn is 66 yearls old, it's amazing how he and the rest of the band are still even somewhat creative. Thanks to Richie for big contribution obviously.

I know Painkiller is their heaviest album, but I never understood why so many people regard it as also their best. For me Defenders and Screaming are their two best. And I'd say this is their best album since Defenders. But I also found it starts to drag a bit Hell & Back to Metalizer. On the second CD I really like Bring it On.
@Zentrixu10 жыл бұрын
but painkiller is like a heavy Version of defenders i think, for me the sentinel is their best song, but i can not tell you which is their best Album it depends on my mood, but i can tell you that i like their newest Album more than angels of Retribution which i also like but it had some fillers but the newest all Songs are very good
@amadeusbirthingman760610 жыл бұрын
All three definitely make my top 3 Priest records. Painkiller I like the most though because it's *speed* metal not just heavy metal and the tracks don't blend together as much. Painkiller's title track is probably tied with the Sentinel for my favourite Priest song

It's a mixed bag. Some interesting songs, but lots of plodding tracks too. Halford's vocals have lost a considerable amount of power in the last 3-4 years. He sounded quite good on 'Made Of Metal' but here his vocals are quite weak at times. I know I'm in a minority here but i much preferred Halford's first two solo albums, the two Fight albums, and perhaps even the Two album, over the last 4 Judas Priest albums. Having said that, 'Redeemer Of Souls' is perfectly listenable and enjoyable for Priest fans and worth a purchase if you are a hardcore fan.
@amadeusbirthingman760610 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of songs I like (Dragonaut, title track, Halls of Valhalla) there are a lot of really generic ones I can't get into honestly (like Hell & Back)
@adamb.827210 жыл бұрын
From start to finish really has everything what I love about Judas Priest. Personally I like it better than painkiller. I think painkiller felt more trying to make a comeback or stay relevant. Both painkiller and Redeemer of souls along with sad wings stained-class and sin after sin are the top five Judas Priest albums for me and it's really a battle between redeemer of souls and stained class.

Who made this knuckle dragger an expert critic? The guy can't even articulate his blog correctly, wrong use of vocabulary or misspelled one. This album has pumped excitement back into Priest. Richie is an outstanding replacement and I can't wait to hear more. The album gets back to the sonic and straight forward metal sounds that Priest are best at and Rob uses some tasty vocal effects throughout which are nicely arranged. It's spacing and pace is so perfect it leaves you wanting more with increasing addictiveness.

i enjoy the album, not their best, but a good solid effort, hell & back reminded me of blood red skies off of ram it down, wich i thaught was cool, but, other than that, other favourites were dragnaut, march of the damned, metalizer, that is all i can remember, even the title track is a decent enough track, the bonus disc is good as well, snakebite, never forget, overall, a solid effort.

Never forget is a very touching ballad worth hearing. Halls of Valhala is a very good to excellent song so is the title track as well. Very solid. Cold blooded rules for the most part. Sword of Damocles being far from bad certainly above average. Hell And Back isn't bad just not too great. Metalizer is aggressive. A good fun listen although really cheesy lyrically. Otherwise Still not bad. Same for Snakebite. Other than that oh I almost forgot Battle Cry it might be the best song on the record. Crossfire is just okayish. Beginning of the End is another good ballad nothing to complain about here either. Dragonaunt of course is a very aggressive start to the album. For the most part good stuff here.

Why are The Beatles a legend? Because they had a quality that does not exist anymore: they knew when to stop: at their musical summit. Judas Priest is only one of the countless bands that does not share this ability. I'm a huge Priest fan and I love their work from 1974 to 1986. Since then, the quality was generally lowered output after output. Nostradamus only had one good song to offer. The contemporary album is a collection of mediorce tracks that nobody needed. In my opinion they should now call it a day as K.K. Downing did after the 2008 disaster. My favorite Priest albums: 01 Rocka Rolla 02 Point Of Entry 03 Stained Glass 04 Sin after Sin 05 Defender Of The Faith 06 Screaming Vengeance 07 Victim Of Changes 08 Painkiller 09 Turbo 10 Killing Machine
