The art alone is worth it for me. I read 2000AD every week from '84 to '88

after watching, i put my 33 years old Chainsaw Warrior back on the table. After a few plays i revised the rules and made a two player coop rule. Love that game..fast, brutal, merciless and fun, fun, fun for one or two players.

I owned this game back when it came out in 1982. My copy didn't look as good as yours does though. It was well played back in the day. I ended up trading it away, thank you for reminding me about it! Not sure if I want it back or not, but it was a nice walk down memory lane.

A great review! I've always loved Judge Dredd, used to read the comic strip in the Daily Star (I think it was) on my breaks during my first jobs after high school. I'm really REALLY hoping one day they'll make a new movie with Judge Death etc in it with really dark not-for-kids themes...wishful thinking me thinks.

Great stuff. This is review of a game I had no idea even existed. OK, that's probably not such a great claim to fame, but it's nice to have my attention drawn to stuff I have never seen or was unaware existed. It makes a nice change from 25 reviews of whatever is sitting on the BGG Hotlist

The original was a riot of fun, but you really need 5-6 players to experience the glorious chaos of bouncing around the board and having to deal with the flurry of negative cards other players play against you (and you play against them). I think it's outdated though, as sadly games have moved on... and it's no longer easy to get the required number of players together, but if you can and you enjoy 'take that' game play, then this game is tons of fun with the right group.

I love how the crimes are generated, but moving around the board and bluffing is very dated. I love the look and judge Dredd though.

Still have my 1982 copy, a bit beat up, still pull it out to play with my 10 year old. The new version is more colorful, and the asymmetric judge cards would add some variety to the game. Will stick with what we have. We also have the original Block Mania. Picked up the reprint of Mega Mania and have been having a blast.

This is my favourite GW period. They released some excellent titles before focusing on Warhammer. Battlecars is a personal favourite.

It’s about as good as could be. Prefer Battlecars from Livingstone and of course his FF books.

Hello. I just bought this game last week from Zatu Games and should be making its way across the pond now. Had to get it from your neck of the woods since no retailers over here in the States have it. Having never played it so not sure if it would work but maybe draw the crimes and perps from a facedown drawpile as the game goes along so players have no way of knowing where the next crime is going to occur. Also I prefer the old artwork, being born in '70 is probably why, on just about every board game I own and glad they didn't change this one. Thanks for the review, as always.

You draw the peeps face down and the crimes face up to give you at least some idea of where to go.

Have a copy of this along with the Judge Fish promo and am looking forward to playing this. A little disappointed that it might be a bit of a damp squib, but I love 2000 AD and Dredd so that should be enough to keep me happy I hope! I think Rebellion is also going to reprint the original Rogue Trooper game too, so I hope you review that one as I would love to hear your thoughts on that as well!

Hi! unfortunately Games workshop never made a Strontium Dog board game or rpg, even though Citadel released a series of miniatures based upon SD back in the day, I had to wait almost 40 years for a tabletop rpg based on the IP from mongoose publishing and a skirmish game from warlord games, still not the SD bounty hunting board game I have always wanted but close enough I guess. I do recall there being a SD board game within the pages of one of the early SD progs, from memory the board game wasn't anything amazing, though now that I'm on the topic I will have to put a day aside and spend some time going through my old 2000AD collection to see if I can find it. The Games workshop, Rogue Trooper board game in my personal opinion is the best 2000AD game GW did out of the bunch and the classic 2000AD Citadel miniatures range is also great, but the miniatures are obviously very expensive on the collectors market these days.

The Strontium Dogs, as well as the Judges, Nikolai Dante and Slaine are all available factions in the "Judge Dredd: Helter Skelter" board game. It's a fantastic, quick little skirmish board game that is a great representation of 2000AD comics. It also features some very nice (albeit small) miniatures, which look fantastic painted up.

I'm a big fan of the old Dredd comics and the IP in general. While this game is incredibly nostalgic and features some beautifully evocative artwork, the game play itself is very clearly a dinosaur and not all that engaging by modern standards. I say, if you want a game in the 2000AD theme, you'd probably find much more enjoyment with something like Helter Skelter or the 2000AD Miniatures Games.

Nice review sir! I gotta say I agree with your judgement. As I am one of those old school 2000AD nutters. I grew up with J Brashill, still best mates; so yeah. I'm a comic and game geek, so what? Eh?... I even got my name and image snuck into the artwork... one of my finest memories. And so I must say thank you for that, but Oy! I'll see you next Thursday. The comic was 'in orbit every Monday', so I'll still be Drokking it on Tue and Wed. m out

Stole my copy from WH Smiths. Played it a lot but didn't get meny of the JD story references as my mate never let me read his 200AD's "Too much 'THRILL POWER' for you", he would say (SOB just wanted to steal all the plot lines for our RPGs)... I grew up on the lower levels of BritCit, so lots or theivery going on... Could have done with a Judge.

Blimey they’ve reprinted JD? First I knew of this? We ( my friend Stuart) still have the original although it must be years (decade?) since it emerged. We should get it out again and I will play WITHOUT SHAME. Yes I am a 200AD freak and also play the Rogue Trooper board game. I share your stated approach of not buying games I own a second time. Quite happy to live 40 years in the past (the beer was better then).
