The problem I have with this theory I've seen others make on similar episodes is that I don't believe people get together and submit their case to Judge Judy. Right? I thought the show's producers found existing cases in court system filings and approached them about instead having it basically arbitrated here. No?

That's why JJ asked for proof that money was withdrawn. It was, on the dates she claimed. If they had applied to the show directly, instead of it being a case the producers found, they would have to withdraw the money that day. Since it happened months earlier, that's how JJ knew it was legit.

@@antonjoseph789 I don’t think she was rude to the plaintiff. Judge Judy is beginning her ruling and shaking her head in agreement is inappropriate. @@antonjoseph789 Not rude. Litigants always act like when JJ knows the other litigant is lying, they are now best friends with JJ and together, they're going to take them down. This is still a courtroom and she's still the judge and she doesn't like when people act inappropriately for a courtroom. The woman nodding and agreeing "Yes, that's proof you're lying or you would have an agreement saying I was investing" was unnecessary. JJ doesn't need to be told "Good point." She knows it's a good point; she's the one who made it.

Some advice. Never give money in a business matter without a contract. Never give money to a friend or family in need and expect to be paid back. The first situation is written and not even a given. The other one you give what you can afford. If people cant afford their bills and you help them thats lovely! But they cant afford anything let alone to pay you back.
