Judge Howard Coates made a downward departure Thursday when sentencing a Florida father who was convicted of abusing one of his children. Timothy Ferriter was sentenced to 60 months in prison, followed by a five-year probation, for physically abusing his adopted son with a belt and confining him to a crate-sized room. The room only locked from the outside and the child would sometimes have to use a bucket for a bathroom. Ferriter's wife, Tracy Ferriter, was arrested for similar charges and has yet to go on trial.

I have only listened to the first 15 mins of this and am feeling quite angry. The boy in the box was not their biological child and so the treatment he received after being adopted is more criminal. To adopt a poor baby from Vietnam at 18 months or so, only to clearly treat that boy cruelly, if I assume the parents were not punitive in the extreme to their natural children, shows a sign of entitlement to treat him as though he should be grateful even if living in a box and eating a peanut butter sandwich each day. When does mummy go to trial? Shame on them.

So this stiff necked cold man gets a wet noodle slap due to wearing a false cloak in public, people are so easily duped by appearances but the child gets scarred for life by the worst type of militaristic discipline. If he had done this to a dog, those same supporters would be screaming bloody murder. No wonder society is screwed up like it is. Shame on the judge.

What a horrible judge to sentence such a short time for such horrific crimes against an innocent child. The jury did their job but the judge failed everyone including the jury, Tim Ferriter’s children, our community and country, millions of people, our society, everyone in public and all children but mostly the victim RF. Forgive him Lord, he knows not what he has done. 🙏 At least I know that after five years in prison Tim Ferriter’s life will be forever altered and he has changed the trajectory and course he planned for his future. He is now a known criminal, a child abuser and a grown man violent, scary bully to young children forever no matter where he goes. He has ruined his reputation. And your reputation will feed you a lot longer than your pocketbook will. What he will have to endure throughout the next five years will permanently change him and leave scars beyond the permanent scars he inflicted on his own children. God will give Tim Ferriter what he deserves. This judge talked about how he is in control of the sentencing decision in his courtroom. But let us all remember God is in control of Tim Ferriter’s real sentence and every aspect of his future and his miserable, pitiful life. My prayers are for the young boy who endured so many years of torture and isolation at the hands of this abusive monster of a man. 🙏

An absolute joke of a sentence, I honestly thought this judge would hand down a minimum of 10 years. He even stated the fact that Lego Head hadn’t shown any signs of remorse, in his statement to the court. It will be interesting to see what plea deal his wife is offered, they both should of been locked up for a decade.

This judgment does indicate privilege. Tim and Tracy had resources, contacts, connections and they resorted to primitive methods of control. 0:16 Where were all those supportive people when a child was being tortured and confined? Tim is not innately evil? He is evil. No remorse at all. We saw nothing but arrogance throughout his trial.

The judge sounded apologetic throughout the sentencing of this monster. I disagree with the judge that Tough Guy Tim believed he was doing the right thing with a son who he believed was a problem child. I believe this monster felt threatened by the victim’s high intellect and enjoyed subjecting him to prolonged humiliation which he intended to cause the boy to develop or exacerbate problems that would eventually vindicate Tough Guy Tim. You could see the defendant’s relative glee on hearing 5 years - he probably expected 15+.

👩‍💻Just like OJ, Casey Anthony & Lizzy Borden; Living Pariahs. Nobody wants to be around them. 5 years!?! When this young boy lived at least that long or more, in his box, AND he had to dump his own poo. At such a ridiculously lenient sentence, the public will ply THE OFFENDER with the appropriate sentence. The children will live very scarred lives trying to heal unseen wounds that will catch up to them. Hopefully, they will have good therapists to help them and send the bill to Daddy and Mommy. 🙋‍♀️😘🥰🇺🇲🇬🇧

I'm guessing the judge was worried about Roman have too many issues with guilt in being responsible for sending his father away to prison. Perhaps the therapist treating him was worried about it. Maybe that's why the light sentence. This judge seemed so fair and when I first heard the sentence I was upset too. But maybe the above is the reason why. If not then I don't understand the sentence. My prayer now for Roman is that he continue on the path of healing with his therapist. I pray, after he turns 18, that he still does not contact TF until he is fully healed and even then think carefully about it.
